Ex-Pentagon official urges US to ‘squeeze’ UK on defense amid Falklands furor

    August 30, 2026 6:44pm EDT / Fox News

NEW You can now listen to Fox News articles!

A report that Washington could use the Falkland Islands to pressure Britain into meeting its NATO defense commitments drew a swift rebuttal Sunday from a former Pentagon official, who insisted the long-standing U.S. neutrality on the islands remains unchanged.

Morgan Murphy, a former press secretary in the War Department, told Fox News Digital that while Washington has not altered its position on Falklands sovereignty, he believes the Trump administration may apply heavy diplomatic leverage over London’s military budget.

“You don’t take the security and skip the bill. That is free-riding,” Murphy said, before adding: “Friends tell friends the check is due. Squeeze is accountability.”

The Falklands’ dispute escalated after reports emerged that U.K. Chancellor John Healey is expected to announce that the government will drop its target of spending 3% of gross domestic product on defense by 2030 when he delivers his first budget in October, according to The Financial Times.

A former Pentagon official said the United States has not changed its position on the Falklands and has been neutral on its sovereignty for decades.(Peter Hazell/Getty Images)

The tension comes amid a six-month Pentagon review of U.S. troop deployments in Europe led by Under Secretary of War for Policy Elbridge Colby, according to Reuters.

As Washington pushes European allies and Canada to take greater responsibility for NATO’s conventional defense, the U.S. is expected to retain a supporting role, including its nuclear deterrent, according to The Associated Press.

“We can’t ‘withdraw support’ for sovereignty of the Falklands that was never there,” Murphy said. “Policy experts know the difference between an unsourced whisper to a British paper that ‘nothing is being ruled out’ and an official word from the White House.”

Murphy said the U.S. remains neutral on Falkland sovereignty and continues to recognize British administration of the islands.

Addressing reports from April of an internal Pentagon email suggesting the U.S. could review its position on the islands, Murphy noted the lack of confirmation.

“I have not seen that email. The Pentagon did not confirm it. The official word that followed was the same U.S. position we have now: neutral on sovereignty, recognize British administration,” Murphy said.

“I no longer work at the White House and can’t speak in any way for the administration, but I can say that the islanders voted 99.8% to stay British in 2013,” he said of Falkland Islanders, who voted in a referendum that year to remain a British overseas territory.

Murphy emphasized that Washington, however, would maintain other diplomatic options without altering the status quo in the Falklands and said the U.S. is actively pressuring Britain on defense obligations.

Under current projections, U.K. defense spending would reach 2.7% of GDP by 2030, with the government expected to set a new timeline for reaching 3% on its path toward NATO’s core defense-spending target by 2035.

According to the 2025 Hague Summit Declaration, NATO allies agreed to spend 5% of GDP annually on defense and security-related expenditures by 2035, including at least 3.5% on core defense requirements, and to submit annual plans charting a credible path to meet NATO capability targets.

“Last year in The Hague they signed up for 5% by 2035, which won headlines, but Britain still will not lock 3% by 2030,” Murphy said. “I’ve watched this town treat a treaty like a suggestion. Friends don’t let allies cheat. So yes, squeeze London on the number.”

He added: “This is the habit: put a number in a communiqué, then treat it as optional. They signed the pledge. They still slide.”

Describing potential U.S. pressure on London as “leverage, not abandonment,” Murphy said pushing Britain to increase defense spending would be “in the best national security interest of the U.S. and the U.K.”

“After Wales in 2014, most of Europe missed the 2% guideline while the U.S. shouldered the load as usual,” Murphy added.

“The United States extends the nuclear umbrella, the intel, the industrial base, the special relationship… You squeeze a budget with tools that move a budget,” he said of Washington’s process.

STARMER IN ‘SEISMIC’ CRISIS, UK DEFENSE CHIEF QUITS BEFORE HIGH-STAKES TRUMP NATO SUMMIT

“Public pressure from the president. Annual Hague reviews. A dated 3% by 2030, or a funded path to 3.5% core by 2035, before the next UK defense budget. The special relationship is a privilege, not a welfare program.

“Tariffs if the White House wants them,” Murphy warned.

“The UK is playing a central role in NATO and strengthening collective defence across Europe,” a U.K. government spokesperson said, according to Sky News. “We are NATO’s third-largest cash spender on defence and the only European NATO member to commit our nuclear deterrent to the alliance.”

Nicolás Maduro shares photos from New York prison: “We are standing firm”

    August 30, 2026 / 2:41 PM EDT / CBS/AFP

Venezuela’s deposed leader Nicolás Maduro said on social media Sunday that he was “standing firm,” while sharing photographs from the New York prison where he has been held since his capture by U.S. forces.

Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were seized in Caracas during a U.S. military operation in January. They are being detained in a Brooklyn, New York, jail on drug trafficking and firearms possession charges, which they deny.

“I am sending these photos as a small gift to all my grandchildren, to the boys and girls, and to all the good people who love us,” he wrote on the Telegram messaging service.

“I want you to know that we are standing firm, with our hearts full of your love,” he added.

    >

    — Nicolás Maduro (@NicolasMaduro) August 30, 2026

In the two photographs, Maduro is wearing a gray tracksuit and making peace signs with his hands. He appears to have lost weight since his capture.

Although the photographs emerged Sunday, camera data indicates they were taken on June 25, a day after twin deadly earthquakes killed more than 6,500 people and caused widespread destruction in northern Venezuela.

“We will remain strong, calm and confident: God is with us. God will provide. Venezuela will rise again,” he concluded.

The message was posted two days after his successor, interim President Delcy Rodriguez announced a “historic” oil agreement allowing the United States to operate oil fields in Venezuela.

President Trump said Friday that the deal grants the United States majority control of over 60 billion barrels of proven Venezuelan oil reserves. A U.S. official told CBS News that the venture is a “joint project of the U.S. government and an experienced private operator in Venezuela.”

“One of the things I am going to do with the Venezuelan Oil is fill up the Strategic National Reserves which, because of Sleepy Joe Biden, has been virtually emptied,” Mr. Trump said in a Truth Social post on Sunday. “The ‘topping out’ process will begin very shortly, and is a Gift from Venezuela to the People of the United States.”

The U.S. government will control 55% of the joint venture, split between equity in the venture and the ability to obtain oil from it at cost, the official said.

Rodriguez is governing under intense pressure from Washington and says she has “chosen the path of diplomacy” with the United States because she wants Venezuela to become an “energy powerhouse.”

Maduro does not have access to newspapers or the internet in prison, but he is allowed to speak by telephone with his family and lawyers for approximately 300 minutes a month, with a maximum of 15 minutes per call, according to a source close to the former leader.

His son, Nicolas Maduro Guerra, says he is in good shape and spends his time studying the Bible.

Maduro and his wife’s trial in New York will begin on June 1, 2027, a federal court in New York announced in late July. Both have pleaded not guilty. They face potential life prison sentences if a jury agrees that they were part of a conspiracy to send cocaine into the U.S.

U.S. prosecutors say Maduro carried out a conspiracy to move thousands of tons of cocaine into the U.S. by colluding with Venezuelan law enforcement to help drug kingpins.

“I am not guilty. I am a decent man, the constitutional president of my country,” he said in Spanish at his arraignment in January.

Sen. Blumenthal urges House to pass Russia sanctions bill amid a “moment of extreme urgency” in Ukraine

    2026-08-30 13:17:17 EDT / CBS News

Washington — Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut on Sunday urged the House to approve the Senate-passed Russia sanctions bill amid a “moment of extreme urgency” in the war in Ukraine.

“It is a moment of extreme urgency, for the reason that Putin may try to escalate, but also because Putin is on his heels economically,” Blumenthal said on “Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan.” “And this kind of sanctions bill, throttling the flow of revenue to his war machine could undercut completely his ability to wage this brutal, murderous war.”

The Senate passed the measure along wide bipartisan margins before leaving town for its August recess earlier this month, in a push that came following the sudden death of Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, who had long championed the effort alongside Blumenthal. Now, the sanctions push moved to the House, which is set to return this week from a five-week recess. But the bill’s prospects in the lower chamber remain uncertain.

The bill, titled The Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026, would allow the president to impose tariffs of up to 100% on the top five purchasers of Russian oil or natural gas, with exceptions for countries that import less than 15% of their natural gas from Russia that are also taking steps to reduce the imports. But some House Democrats have expressed concerns about giving the president more authority.

Asked by Brennan about possible Democratic opposition, Blumenthal defended the bill, which he said was “the result of painstaking, sometimes painful, negotiations” with the U.S. trade representative, the White House and lawmakers on both sides of the aisle.

“It passed the Senate 86 to 11 — not many measures doing that kind of successful passage these days,” Blumenthal said.

The Connecticut Democrat pointed to the bill’s increased authority for the president to “impose scorching sanctions on the oligarchs” and the financial institutions, along with measures to “crack down on the shadow fleet,” and tariff authority “narrowly constrained” to the five largest purchasers of Russian oil and gas.

Blumenthal said the sanctions bill could weaken Russian President Vladimir Putin’s position, pointing to Moscow’s economic outlook.

“His economy is on the verge of major crisis,” Blumenthal said. “He has a deficit looming of $125 billion, 5% of his GDP, an interest rate of 14% on his national debt.”

Blumenthal said he’s “very hopeful” that the sanctions bill will find enough support from Democrats to pass in the House, adding that while visiting Ukraine last week, he urged Zelenskyy to meet with members of Congress, like the Ukrainian leader did in the Senate.

“I’m very hopeful that he will because he’s Ukraine’s strongest advocate,” Blumenthal added.

The comments come after a Russian drone strike west of Kyiv on Friday night that marked the deadliest attack this year in Ukraine. Blumenthal said the latest attack is “only one of every night’s bombardment of hospitals, homes, schools,” saying “Putin is killing Ukrainians in cold blood with his missiles and bombs.”

“This trip was exhilarating because Ukraine is clearly making progress; it’s turning the tide,” he said. “But it was also heartbreaking to see the toll that this war is taking.”

Blumenthal said during their meeting, Zelenskyy outlined his priorities, which the Connecticut Democrat called a “homework assignment that he gave me.”

“No. 1, the Russian sanctions bill,” Blumenthal said.

California bill recognizing 2 Islamic holidays nears Newsom’s desk

    August 30, 2026 2:21pm EDT / Fox News

California could soon formally recognize two of Islam’s most important holy days under legislation that would give state workers greater flexibility to take them off and allow public schools to close in observance of the holidays.

The measure, which overwhelmingly passed the state Assembly and is awaiting Senate action, would recognize Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha in state law and could soon head to Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom’s desk.

Assembly Bill 2017, introduced by Democratic San Francisco Assemblymember Matt Haney, passed the Assembly 64-1 in late May. It must clear the Senate before the legislative session ends Monday to reach Newsom.

The bill would let state employees use existing paid holiday credits to take time off for Eid. Public schools and community colleges could also close for the holidays.

“California is home to one of the largest and most vibrant Muslim communities in the country, and their traditions deserve recognition and respect,” Haney said in a news release about the bill in March. “No student should have to choose between celebrating one of the holiest days of their faith and showing up to school, and no worker should feel they have to sacrifice their religious observance.”

Haney also said the bill is also about treating Muslim Californians equally.

“AB 2017 is about making sure Muslim Californians are seen, valued, and treated with the same dignity as every other community in our state,” he said.

Eid al-Fitr, or the “Festival of Breaking the Fast,” marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month when Muslims fast from dawn to sunset. Eid al-Adha, or the “Festival of Sacrifice,” commemorates the willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son in obedience to God.

CALIFORNIA SCHOOL DISTRICT SUED OVER FIELD TRIP TO MOSQUE WHERE STUDENTS ALLEGEDLY DONNED MUSLIM GARB

Supporters say the bill would make it easier for Muslim workers and students to take part in Eid prayers and spend the holidays with their families.

“For decades, Muslim families across the state have had to navigate an unfair balancing act between their faith and their academic or professional obligations,” Oussama Mokeddem, legislative and government affairs director for the Council on American-Islamic Relations’ (CAIR) California chapter, said in a statement in July. “AB 2017 is a meaningful step toward ensuring Muslim students can celebrate Eid with the same dignity, respect, and accommodation afforded to other faith communities.”

Hala Hijazi, founder of the Muslim Impact Council, recalled missing Eid with her family earlier in her career while working for the city of San Francisco.

“It was really painful to not be with my family,” Hijazi told the Sacramento Bee. She said her family would go to lunch after Eid al-Fitr services and give gifts to the children.

The California Family Council, a conservative Christian advocacy group, opposes the bill’s school provisions, while saying it supports allowing students to take time off for religious holidays.

FEDERAL COURT UPHOLDS TEXAS LAW REQUIRING TEN COMMANDMENTS IN PUBLIC CLASSROOMS

The group objects to language allowing schools to hold exercises “acknowledging and celebrating the meaning and importance” of Eid. It also criticized a provision allowing the State Board of Education to develop a model curriculum guide for those exercises.

“No California statute authorizes public schools to hold exercises celebrating the meaning of Christmas, Easter, or Good Friday,” the group said in a May statement, arguing Christian and Jewish holidays have not received comparable treatment. “The asymmetry is written into the law.”

If signed into law, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha would join other holidays California has recognized, including Lunar New Year and Diwali.

California would not be the first state to recognize the Eid holidays. Washington was the first, according to the Sacramento Bee. Hijazi told the newspaper that California’s proposal would go further by allowing state workers to use paid holiday credits, while Washington allows unpaid time off.

DC public schools face special grand jury probe into attendance, truancy and graduation records

    August 30, 2026 3:11pm EDT / Fox News

Teachers at several campuses have been contacted about student absences, graduation practices and attendance data

By Stepheny Price, Jake Gibson, David Spunt, Fox News

Federal prosecutors have launched a rare special grand jury probe into D.C. public schools, zeroing in on truancy, graduation rates and attendance records.

The investigation, which was first reported by The Washington Post, is examining the supervision and oversight of young people in the nation’s capital, according to people familiar with the matter.

This is about “safeguarding youth in the District,” a law enforcement official told Fox News.

Teachers and other personnel at several D.C. Public Schools campuses have been contacted in recent days about student absences, graduation practices and the way attendance is documented, the Washington Post reported. At least one person has already testified before the panel, while others are expected to appear in the coming days, according to the outlet.

DETROIT SCHOOLS OFFER STUDENTS UP TO $1,000 FOR PERFECT ATTENDANCE AS PROGRAM EXPANDS

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro’s office is overseeing a rare special grand jury investigation into D.C. public schools’ truancy, graduation practices and attendance records.(Nathan Howard/Reuters)

The use of a special grand jury is unusual. Fox News is told a judge must approve the creation of such a panel, which can conduct a sweeping investigation and issue a detailed report on its findings even if prosecutors ultimately file no criminal charges.

A spokesperson for U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro’s office told the Washington Post it could neither confirm nor deny an investigation.

The office of D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said its focus remains on the new school year.

“Our focus remains on welcoming students and families back for a strong start to the new school year, and that is what we want our principals and teachers focused on as well,” the mayor’s office told the Washington Post. “We make all school data public and will continue to do so.”

The Washington Post reported that senior prosecutor Steven Vandervelden, one of Pirro’s top allies in the U.S. attorney’s office, is overseeing the inquiry.

Pirro has repeatedly linked school truancy to youth crime and disruptive teen gatherings in the District. At a May news conference, she said authorities could take action when teens repeatedly break curfew or skip school.

“We’re coming for you, and we’re coming for your parents,” Pirro said.

She also said her office wanted school records involving students accused of chronic truancy and curfew violations, according to the Washington Post. The outlet reported that the city did not voluntarily turn over those records.

The new probe comes years after D.C. schools were rocked by a graduation scandal centered on Ballou High School. A 2018 city investigation found the school had awarded diplomas to students who failed to satisfy attendance rules or had improperly completed makeup coursework.

While the scandal initially centered on Ballou High School, it eventually spread to several D.C. high schools. The investigation found that about one-third of D.C. students who graduated in 2017 had not actually met the requirements for a diploma, according to the Washington Post. District officials later said they tightened enforcement of attendance standards.

MORE THAN 400K NEW YORK CITY CHILDREN ENROLLED IN FAILING PUBLIC SCHOOLS: REPORT

Absenteeism, however, has persisted. During the 2023-24 school year, nearly 16,000 D.C. Public Schools students, roughly one-third of K-12 enrollment, were considered truant after missing at least two weeks of classes without an excuse, the Washington Post reported last year.

The special grand jury’s work is unfolding as D.C.’s school system, which serves more than 50,000 students, begins a new academic year.

    2026-08-30T16:24:50.453Z / https://www.cnn.com/2026/08/30/politics/trump-kristen-welker-fcc-nbc

Trump calls for NBC’s Kristen Welker to face ‘rebuke or punishment’ from the FCC

    2026-08-30T16:24:50.453Z / https://www.cnn.com/2026/08/30/politics/trump-kristen-welker-fcc-nbc

Treating the Federal Communications Commission like his own personal enforcer, President Donald Trump said on social media Sunday that NBC’s Kristen Welker would be “reported to the FCC for rebuke or punishment” over a TV segment he didn’t like.

In a separate post, Trump complained in all caps about “fake polls” and said “something must be done about it,” adding, “FCC to the rescue!”

The posts were Trump’s most explicit efforts yet to direct the FCC to carry out his wishes. FCC Chair Brendan Carr, a Trump appointee and close ally, did not respond to CNN’s request for comment on the matter.

Trump posted a long missive Sunday about what he described as mischaracterizations of his endorsement record in primaries.

He wrote: “Kristen Welker, the Unpopular ‘Hostess’ of the once great Meet the Press, now considered Meet the Fake Press, just stated that Donald Trump has ‘mixed results’ on his Endorsements of Candidates, when the recent WINS of Darline Graham and Mike Mazzei, stand at 100% for the U.S. Senate, and 98% for the U.S. House, recently and over the longterm. How can anyone be allowed to say this, working for freely given Public Airwaves?”

The FCC has limited power over issues like this, and its own website states the agency “cannot prevent the broadcast of any particular point of view,” so the notion of “punishment” for Welker, the moderator of NBC’s “Meet the Press,” would historically be a nonstarter.

But Carr has been quick to respond to Trump’s requests to go after media organizations. And he has taken aggressive action against some FCC licensees, particularly ABC, whose parent company, Disney, filed a First Amendment lawsuit against the commission earlier this month.

In March, Carr issued a threat to broadcasters over their coverage of the Iran war after the president made a similar complaint on Truth Social.

In April, the FCC chair initiated an unusual challenge to ABC’s local station licenses, one day after Trump called for comedian Jimmy Kimmel’s firing.

Carr justified the widely criticized action by citing his probe of Disney’s diversity practices.

He similarly has an open investigation into NBC’s parent company, Comcast, over what he has called “invidious forms of DEI discrimination.”

Former FCC officials from both parties have criticized Carr for trying to weaponize the agency and chill free speech. Trump, meantime, has singled out Carr for praise.

On Sunday, Trump claimed Welker will be “reported” to the FCC “because of this purposeful inaccuracy.”

Anyone can file a complaint to the FCC, though there is no option for objecting to a news report.

Anna Gomez, the lone Democrat on the commission, responded to Trump’s posts by saying that “the FCC has no authority to punish journalists this administration doesn’t like.”

“These threats to press freedom are dangerous,” Gomez wrote on X. “They undermine the foundation of our democracy, and they have no place in it.”

Welker made the comment in question while appearing on NBC’s local Washington, DC, station to promote “Meet the Press.”

Her observation about “mixed results” was backed up by NBC’s recent reporting, which noted that “six Trump-backed candidates for House and governor lost their primaries” earlier this month.

Other news outlets, including CNN, have also described Trump’s recent endorsement record as “mixed.”

An NBC News spokesperson said, “Kristen is one of the best in the business and we stand by her.”

The president has criticized Welker repeatedly in the past couple of years while also seeking out her attention and granting her multiple interviews.

Trump’s Sunday post focused on his anger over the media’s coverage about his endorsement record. Trump concluded by flattering the FCC appointees: “The Press is a Disgrace to our Nation, and I hope that Chairman Brendan Carr, and the fine people of his Commission, will take this Threat to our Country very seriously.”

The subject also came up on Friday’s edition of HBO’s “Real Time,” when Bill Maher said that he heard from the president after saying on his previous episode that “Trump used to win all of his endorsements, now he’s winning almost none of them.” (HBO and CNN share the same parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery.)

“I heard from one viewer who was very upset about this, contacted me directly,” Maher said, indicating that the president texted him with charts to disprove the claim.

“It’s a little more nuanced, but yes, I overstated it,” Maher said. “Now, stop texting.”

The deal announced Friday would give the U.S. a stake in 17 Venezuelan oil fields holding an estimated 65 billion barrels of crude, according to Venezuela’s government.

Venezuela controls more than 300 billion barrels of crude reserves, roughly 20% of the world’s total. It is the largest oil stockpile on the planet, exceeding even Saudi Arabia’s.

TRUMP’S AMBITIOUS ENERGY BET COULD BE A WINNING HAND AS THE WORLD BURNS MORE OIL, GAS THAN EVER

Yet Venezuela has long struggled to turn that oil wealth into steady production. Political instability and deteriorating infrastructure have left the country producing only about 1% of the world’s oil despite holding an estimated 17% of global reserves.

For Trump, the potential benefit goes beyond the deal’s headline number.

Venezuela produces heavy crude, the type many Gulf Coast refineries were designed to process. Much U.S. production is lighter shale crude, while Gulf Coast refiners have historically relied on heavier imports from Canada, Mexico and Venezuela.

A steadier Venezuelan supply could support Gulf Coast refineries, diversify U.S. oil imports and provide a buffer against future supply disruptions. It could also help replenish the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, which remains well below its 714 million-barrel authorized capacity.

That prospect has taken on added importance as the war with Iran disrupts oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz. The average U.S. price for regular gasoline stood at about $4.07 a gallon Sunday, according to AAA, compared with roughly $3.19 a year earlier.

For Trump, the deal is a bet that long-term access to Venezuelan heavy crude can strengthen U.S. energy security and eventually ease costs for Americans.

Whether it translates into relief at the pump will depend on how quickly Venezuela can turn its vast reserves into market-ready barrels.

Anyone in the United States searching for Lake Ontario on Google Maps can no longer find it as of this weekend.

Users in the country will now see the smallest of the Great Lakes identified as “Lake America” on that site, following President Donald Trump’s executive order on Thursday mandating the change in how the US government refers to the lake amid his tense trade war with Canada.

“The U.S. Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) has formally changed the name for “Lake Ontario” to “Lake America” in the United States,” Google said in a statement on Saturday. “Since we update Google Maps to reflect name changes in official government sources, which is GNIS for the U.S., people using Maps in the U.S. will see “Lake America,” those in Canada will continue to see “Lake Ontario.”

The company added that users not in the US or Canada will see the name for the lake appear both ways, with “Lake America” appearing in parentheses after “Lake Ontario.”

Google said the changes follow their “long-standing policy for bodies of water with names that vary from country to country.”

On Sunday, Trump administration officials celebrated the change on social media, with White House Communications Director Steven Chueng writing, “It’s official! LAKE AMERICA on Google Maps.”

Trump posted a link to an article about the change.

Lake Ontario is jointly controlled by Canada and the United States, per the Boundary Waters Treaty, enacted in the early 20th century to prevent and settle disputes over the use of the shared waters.

While Trump has wide latitude over how the US government refers to geographic landmarks, he can’t force other countries to follow suit.

Canadian officials have made that clear.

The country’s prime minister, Mark Carney, has said his country would “forever” call the lake that straddles both nations’ borders Lake Ontario.

On Saturday, Ontario Premier Doug Ford took the defiant stance further by unveiling a sign on the Canadian side of the lake with “Lake Ontario” in large font, followed by “Now and Always.”

He then posted a social media video about it, standing in front of the sign while saying, “Let’s be clear: Long before President Trump, this lake was called Lake Ontario. And long after President Trump is gone, it will still be called lake Ontario.”

Trump’s order marks his latest geographic rebrand. The president moved to change “Gulf of Mexico” to “Gulf of America” on his first day back in office in January 2024. Google followed by issuing a similar statement, saying at the time it complied with that name change.

Alternatives to Google Maps, including Waze and Apple Maps, still label the lake as “Lake Ontario” as of Sunday afternoon. MapQuest quickly informed its users in a Thursday social media post: “We’re not changing it.”
