The clash erupted during a debate over the decades-old US embargo on Cuba, with Waltz accusing Havana of corruption

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz told Cuba’s foreign minister to “back up” Tuesday after the Cuban diplomat approached the podium and interrupted his remarks on the floor of the U.N. General Assembly.

“Well, we know. We know where it went. And today we are here to share it to the world,” Waltz said as he accused Cuba’s government of enriching its leaders while its people suffered.

As the Cuban delegation sought to interrupt his remarks, Waltz fired back.

“I know you don’t like to hear this,” Waltz said. “This is America, my friend. This is the United Nations. This isn’t your communist dictatorship. You cannot silence me.”

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla continued toward the podium as the president of the General Assembly attempted to restore order, reminding delegates that they would have an opportunity to respond.

“This individual needs to back away from this podium,” Waltz said as the confrontation escalated. “He’s not going to intimidate me in the United States of America.

“I’m the representative of the United States of America. Back up! Back up, Ambassador. Back away! This isn’t Havana.”

The confrontation erupted during the General Assembly’s annual debate over the decades-old U.S. embargo on Cuba, with Waltz urging member states to reject a resolution calling for an end to the restrictions.

Waltz accused Havana’s communist government of enriching itself while blaming Washington for hardships he said were caused by corruption and repression inside Cuba.

After Cuba was eventually granted the floor, the delegation’s foreign minister accused Waltz of “lying” and asked the General Assembly president to call him to order.

“Mr. Waltz is lying yet again,” he said, arguing that the U.S. ambassador’s remarks were “beneath the dignity of this forum and member states” and were insulting to Cuba’s government and people.

In a subsequent post on X, Waltz shot said the “Communist leaders” in Cuba “don’t want you to know about their luxury real estate portfolio,” adding that he was bringing the receipts and the delegation didn’t like it.

Rep. Haley Stevens, D-Mich., repeatedly stopped short of saying she was “fully behind” Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed when pressed on national television Sunday, months after he narrowly defeated her in a bitter primary and just days before the midterm elections.

CNN’s Dana Bash first pressed Stevens on why she has yet to campaign alongside El-Sayed despite endorsing him after the primary. Stevens responded by pointing to her work campaigning for Democratic House candidates across Michigan.

But when Bash later asked directly whether she was “still fully behind” El-Sayed, Stevens again stopped short of saying yes.

“Look, I’m on the Democratic ticket,” Stevens said. “I can’t say that I agree with everything that’s gone on.”

Stevens instead highlighted her support for Democratic gubernatorial nominee Jocelyn Benson and House candidates, but not El-Sayed.

Bash pointed out that she had not mentioned him.

“Well, look, I would just say you asked me if I’m still on the team,” Stevens responded. “I’m on the team.”

The exchange underscores lingering tensions inside the Michigan Democratic coalition following a contentious Senate primary that exposed divisions over Israel, Iran and the direction of the party. Stevens’ supporters included constituencies El-Sayed has been working to consolidate behind his campaign, particularly Black and Jewish voters, as he faces Republican Mike Rogers in the general election.

Stevens also suggested Sunday that El-Sayed has more work to do with some of the voters who backed her in the primary.

When asked whether El-Sayed had done enough to reach her former supporters in Michigan’s Black and Jewish communities, Stevens pointed specifically to outreach she had urged him to make to Black voters.

“I had said to, you know, the coordinated campaign, I’m like, hey, give a speech in the Black community, right?” Stevens said.

“But yeah, I mean, that didn’t happen,” she added. “That speech hasn’t happened.”

El-Sayed is facing former Republican Rep. Mike Rogers in the closely watched race to succeed retiring Democratic Sen. Gary Peters, with the Michigan seat central to the battle for control of the Senate.

The contest has emerged as a test of the Democratic Party’s progressive wing, with El-Sayed campaigning on policies including Medicare-for-all and an end to U.S. military aid to Israel, while Rogers has sought to portray him as outside Michigan’s political mainstream.

Nearly 200 House Democrats are moving to shield Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., from further investigation after federal investigators raided her Washington, D.C., home earlier this month.

Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., led 175 members of the House Democratic Caucus in a letter to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Markwayne Mullin and Attorney General Todd Blanche criticizing the probe into Omar’s immigration history as a partisan attack and accusing them of trying to sway her bid for another term in Congress.

“Congresswoman Omar is seeking reelection in Minnesota’s 5th congressional district in just one week. News of the search warrant, whether properly predicated or not, could affect voters’ decisions, which is exactly why federal law enforcement should not engage in such conduct when voters are casting their ballots. This type of interference strips Minnesotans of their right to a free and fair election guaranteed to them under the Constitution,” the letter said.

The message ended: “We stand with Congresswoman Omar and condemn the weaponization of law enforcement against her. You have already disgraced the offices you hold, and we demand you refrain from taking any further actions that could affect the outcome of the upcoming election.”

Omar, D-Minn., is under federal investigation over allegations she or her father lied about her birth year on immigration paperwork to obtain her citizenship when her family fled Somalia in the late 1990s. If she was 17 when her father obtained citizenship, as previously thought, she would have automatically qualified along with him. If she was 18 or older, which federal officials now suspect, she would have had to make her own application.

Her fellow House Democrats recounted the allegations in their letter, “Your probe into the congresswoman reportedly concerns her late father’s filing of immigration paperwork after she fled Somalia’s civil war at age eight, making her a U.S. citizen at age seventeen.”

But they argued it does not justify “a pre-dawn raid on her home for paperwork her father filed when she was a minor.”

DEMOCRATS HAVE ‘DIRTY HANDS’ OVER COMPLAINTS ABOUT OMAR RAID WEEKS BEFORE ELECTION, EX-PROSECUTOR SAYS

Federal agents executed a judicially authorized search warrant on Omar’s home on Oct. 12, seizing multiple phones and notebooks among other items.

“This weaponization of law enforcement to harass a sitting Member of Congress 22 days before an election is unprecedented and unacceptable,” Democrats’ Monday letter said. “DOJ has long followed a policy not to take investigative steps relating to a candidate this close to an election if delaying the action will not jeopardize a criminal investigation, a policy which Attorney General Blanche has previously invoked as far back as nine months before an election.”

They argued the probe was “driven by a pre-determined political outcome rather than an objective pursuit of justice.”

Omar herself has dismissed the probe as a political hit job against one of Trump’s loudest critics.

Others, however, like House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, R-Minn., have called for Omar to be jailed and deported if the accusations are proven true.

A “ringleader” has been sentenced and several other suspects charged in Illinois in connection with a widespread conspiracy to defraud the federal immigration system by helping noncitizens seek visa protections reserved for crime victims who assist law enforcement.

Parth Nayi of Illinois was sentenced Thursday to two years in federal prison for participating in hundreds of staged armed robberies at small businesses and eateries in and around Chicago and helping “coach” the supposed ” victims” through plans to apply for U visas in exchange for cash.

“[Nayi] was the main organizer and at the center of almost every single one of the hundreds of staged robberies that were perpetrated. [The] defendant significantly corrupted the federal U-Visa program, designed to provide a benefit to a particularly vulnerable group—foreign nationals who are victims of serious crimes while visiting the United States,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Saqib Mohammad Hussain wrote in the case’s sentencing memo.

Thousands of people posing as crime victims paid Nayi to participate in the scheme, prosecutors said.

Alleged co-conspirators Bhikhabhai Patel, Nilesh Patel, Ravinaben Patel and Rajnikumar Patel reached out to Nayi to pose as victims of the staged robberies so they could apply for U visas, which were created under a 2000 law meant to protect trafficking victims and “battered immigrant women.”

Rep. Christopher Smith, R.N.J., lead sponsor of the anti-trafficking legislation that created the U visa, expressed outrage over the alleged abuse of the program.

“Anyone who engages in visa fraud or falsifies claims to obtain any government benefit should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, and if guilty, jailed,” Smith told Fox News Digital on Tuesday.

“It is especially egregious to abuse a program designed to help victims of human trafficking — often women and children — who are cooperating with police and are working to recover from their extraordinary trauma. We must hold abusive criminals accountable.”

Prosecutors said Nayi and another suspect, Kewon Young, recruited people to serve as armed “robbers” who at times “struck purported victims to make the staged robbery appear real.”

Nayi and alleged co-conspirator Kewon Young organized and participated in staged robberies of shops and bodegas.

After the “robberies,” the purported victims would be coached to submit I-918 supplements to law enforcement so authorities could certify that they had been victims of a violent crime and could seek U visas.

An I-918 form would then be submitted to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) seeking protected legal status in the United States.

Purported victims paid Nayi as much as $30,000 to take part in the staged robberies, prosecutors said. During one robbery, a store employee was critically injured by a gunshot fired by one of the alleged assailants.

During a July 2023 “robbery” at a Chicago liquor store, one of the alleged assailants accidentally discharged his weapon and “critically” injured an employee, according to CWB Chicago. The perpetrators then fled in a stolen vehicle, according to the outlet.

Fox News Digital reached out to Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker for comment.

Johnson has repeatedly lambasted federal immigration enforcement, particularly under the Trump administration, likening its actions to an America that appears as if the “Confederacy won” the Civil War.

Bhikhabhai Patel allegedly posed as a victim at a Chicago Dunkin’ in 2023 before filing a fraudulent U visa application.

Ravinaben Patel allegedly posed as a victim at a second Dunkin’ and filed a false police report about the incident.

The 2024 indictment identified more than a dozen locations used in the scheme, including businesses outside Illinois, such as a Subway in Louisiana and a truck stop in Middle Tennessee.

The DOJ’s indictment indicates five others besides Nayi have been convicted but does not specify their names.

Leftist gaming site commentator Hasan Piker and Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., met up in Minnesota to cohost a campaign event on Monday night, bashing President Donald Trump’s administration as well as Democrats who are willing to work with him.

Piker, who streams his commentary on Twitch, called Republicans “terrorists” during the event, and Omar referred to the party as the “pedophile protection party.”

They made the comments during a Q&A session led by failed Minneapolis mayoral candidate Omar Fateh.

“Trump’s obsession with us started in 2016, when he arrived at the airport and begged for our vote. We said, no thank you. We continued to say, no thank you. He lies and says he’s won Minnesota three times, as if,” Omar said.

“This defeat is going to be the fourth time! We remind him that Minnesota is not interested in a pedophile protection party. Minnesota doesn’t send people who are corrupt and are interested in enriching themselves. And Minnesota does not come after the refugees, they send one to Congress,” she added.

Piker went after less radical Democrats later in the interview, saying many in the party had ceded arguments to Trump in 2024 when they “started also saying that migrants were a national security threat.”

“That’s unacceptable. Migrants are not a national security threat. They are our neighbors. They are allies. They work alongside us. They are not the burden, but a benefit. They are what make this country strong, and they’re what make it this country great. And any Democrat … any Democrat that refuses to recognize that, in my opinion, is un-American,” Piker said.

“I’m not even gonna bring up the Republicans because they are the most un-American force in this country. They’re terrorists. They are terrorizing our neighborhoods. They’re destroying what remains of the social fabric that holds us together. It’s completely unacceptable. But to the Democrats who think this problem is going to go away, they were wrong in 2024, and they’re wrong now. A paperwork violation does not require deportation. That is cruel and unjust punishment,” he added.

Piker had largely been sidelined by Democratic campaigns following a disastrous appearance with Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan last month.

Piker’s commentary has stained El-Sayed’s insurgent progressive campaign recently, particularly his assertion that America “deserved” the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Even El-Sayed was driven to put space between himself and Piker after their connection became public.

He said that “all Americans deserve the right to advocate for what they believe without fear of violence,” and acknowledged that “antisemitism is a scourge, and we need to address it in all its forms,” and added that “nobody speaks for this campaign besides me and my campaign spokespeople.”

“And while politicians and pundits try to make this race about a Twitch streamer, we’re going to be talking about gas, groceries, good schools and healthcare,” he said.

A ceasefire that first lady Melania Trump helped negotiate in a front-line Ukrainian city that she described as being on the “brink of disaster” went into effect Tuesday.

The pause in fighting in Oleshky started around 3 a.m. local time as “part of a humanitarian mission being carried out with the mediation and coordination of U.S. first lady Melania Trump, in cooperation with Yana Lantratova, Russia’s commissioner for human rights,” according to Dmytro Lubinets, the Ukrainian Parliament commissioner for human rights.

“The situation in Oleshky is dire. Oleshky is a front-line war city on the brink of disaster,” Trump said in a statement last week. “Oleshky’s remaining population is comprised primarily of elderly residents who urgently need medical attention, medicine, food, and clean water.

“The people of Oleshky have limited electricity, live amid mined roads, and endure regular military attacks. It was abundantly clear that without my intervention, the possibility to bring humanitarian aid into the city and to evacuate the elderly would be impossible,” she added.

The White House said both Ukraine and Russia “agreed to temporarily stop all military action in Oleshky to allow for humanitarian aid to enter and to prepare a civilian evacuation through a designated safe passageway.”

“Non-military, civilian leaders from both countries will work together to visit Oleshky residents in their homes and determine the level of assistance they require. Residents who wish to evacuate will receive coordinated support and transportation to their preferred destination. I anticipate some will want to go to Russia, and some to Ukraine,” Trump added.

Speaking on “Fox & Friends Weekend,” senior advisor Marc Beckman said the agreement followed weeks of mediation involving Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

On Tuesday, Russia’s Defense Ministry wrote on Telegram, “In relation to the conduct of the humanitarian operation in the area of the settlement of Oleshky, Kherson region, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation have ceased fire in the Kherson direction.”

Russian troops have held control of Oleshky since the early days of the February 2022 invasion of Ukraine, according to Reuters.

The news agency added that the city had a population of around 24,000 prior to the war, but that has since dwindled to only a few thousand.

While on the campaign trail Monday for Democrats ahead of the midterms, former Vice President Kamala Harris offered some of her harshest criticism of the Trump White House yet, calling it the “most callous and corrupt and incompetent” presidential administration in American history.

Twice during her speech at an event for David Crowley, the Democratic nominee for governor in Wisconsin, Harris accused the Trump administration of wielding an agenda of “brutality” against Americans.

Though in her lambasting of President Donald Trump’s character and leadership style, she didn’t mention him by name once.

“We in this room, I know, understand that the measure of the strength of the leader is based on who you lift up, not who you beat down,” Harris said. “Unlike some other people who are constantly looking in the mirror, David is looking at the people. That’s the kind of leader we want.”

Her more specific, policy-based attacks came against Rep. Tom Tiffany, R-Wis., Crowley’s opponent in the gubernatorial race.

Harris noted that Tiffany supported Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election based on unsubstantiated claims of widespread fraud, before framing the upcoming election as a test of longstanding democratic norms.

“Let’s talk about the fact that David’s opponent denied the election of 2020. By the way, we won. Yes, you can call me former madam Vice President. We won that election,” Harris said.

She continued: “We are now in the phase of the moment in our democracy, while we can still hold on to it, where the people’s voice reigns, where the will of the people reigns, where the power of the people is demonstrated by what we do to organize.”

At an earlier event on Monday, Crowley called Harris a “huge mentor” of his, adding that his wife loves her.

Tiffany pounced on the connection in a social media post, accusing Crowley of sharing Harris’ support for higher taxes, “taxpayer benefits for illegals” and “Green New Deal policies” that he argued would drive up energy costs.

Over the last several weeks, Harris has barnstormed through several key presidential battlegrounds to campaign alongside Democrats, including Nevada gubernatorial candidate Aaron Ford and Senate candidates Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan and Chris Pappas in New Hampshire.

Her increased involvement has only fueled speculation that she is laying the groundwork for another White House run in 2028.

During a September event with NAACP leaders in Detroit, Harris said she has yet to decide whether she’ll run for president again.

“I do sincerely believe ’28 won’t matter if we don’t get through ’26,” she said.

A Utah man accused of threatening to blow up a synagogue was allegedly found with six functional pipe bombs, rifles and ammunition after investigators searched his home, federal prosecutors said.

An Illinois man was charged with two felonies Monday after allegedly sending letters containing an unknown white powder substance to members of Congress, according to a criminal complaint.

Matthew G. Unglesbee was charged with false information and hoaxes and mailing threatening communications after four members of Congress received the letters, which were marked with his return address, according to the complaint.

Unglesbee told the FBI the substance in the letters was salt and that he mailed them as a joke, the complaint read.

The FBI received a tip that Unglesbee had sent the letters on Oct. 16. The tipster had overheard Unglesbee at a restaurant saying he had mailed suspicious substances to members of Congress, the complaint stated.

The tipster allegedly provided authorities with Unglesbee’s full name, address and date of birth.

Members of the FBI’s field office in Chicago responded to the offices of three members of Congress in the northern Illinois area after receiving the tip and a 911 call from one of the congressional offices.

“A staff member at Congressperson A’s office, the first office to receive a letter, noticed that the letter felt like it contained a powder and the staffer could hear something inside the letter,” the complaint read. This staff member called 911.

The office had already been on high alert, having received a similar letter within the previous few weeks, according to the complaint.

All three letters contained “[a white granular substance]” and a handwritten letter which read “HA HA,” the complaint stated.

On Friday, FBI Chicago responded to the office of a fourth member of Congress, a senator in the Northern District of Illinois. The senator had also received an envelope with a white granular substance, also with a letter which also read, “HAH enjoy the gift.”

All four letters were marked with Unglesbee’s name and return address, according to the complaint.

FBI Task Force Officer Chris Hobbs, who wrote the criminal complaint, characterized the letters as a common intimidation tactic, pointing out that preliminary lab testing “did not detect the presence of chemical or biological toxins in the white granular substance.”

The FBI interviewed Unglesbee at his home Saturday when he allegedly confessed to [sending the letters], telling law enforcement that he heard someone in a restaurant talking about similar letters Congress members had received.

He told the FBI he knew his powder would be perceived as potentially being anthrax and anticipated people responding with hazmat suits.

He also told the FBI that the powder was salt, claiming he used salt specifically because it looked like anthrax.

“Unglesbee claimed he was joking but recognized that the recipients would not know he was joking and could perceive it as a threat,” the complaint read.

The FBI searched Unglesbee’s home and found a fifth letter marked with one of the congresspeople’s Washington, D.C., office’s address.

The FBI also determined that Unglesbee sent the letters on Oct. 19.
