OCONOMOWOC, Wis. – Rep. Tom Tiffany, who is expected to win Tuesday’s Republican gubernatorial primary in Wisconsin, is warning voters that a likely general-election match up with socialist state Rep. Francesca Hong could determine whether socialism gains a foothold in the Midwestern battleground state.

Tiffany, speaking to Fox News Digital alongside former Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin, said on the eve of the primary that the election could determine whether Wisconsin becomes a “firewall” against the spread of socialism as far-left candidates continue to topple more moderate Democrats in high-profile primary elections this spring and summer.

“Is the heartland going to be the firewall that stops this movement of socialism coming from, especially the East Coast?” Tiffany said. “And I think Wisconsin will be. We’ll be the place that stops socialism.”

Hong is the polling frontrunner in a Democratic gubernatorial nomination showdown that’s been rocked this summer after two major contenders dropped out, and another candidate re-entered the race.

A member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), the 37-year-old former chef and single mother is backed by top nationally known progressives, including Reps. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Ro Khanna of California, a potential 2028 Democratic presidential contender

Hong is running on a platform that includes guaranteed paid leave, boosting the state’s minimum wage from $7.25 to $20 per hour, and a one-year moratorium in Wisconsin on building AI data centers. Her “TAX THE RICH” plan proposes raising state income taxes by 1% for couples making over $431,000 and individuals making over $323,000.

Hong has faced scrutiny over years-old social media posts calling for defunding and abolishing the police. But she says she no longer supports cutting police budgets or abolishing police departments.

“I’m not defunding the police, not abolishing police. I am serious about public safety,” Hong emphasized on Saturday as she took questions from voters.

“I think what Francesca Hong stands for is the antithesis of America,” Youngkin said. “She wants to defund police, close prisons. She wants to get rid of the military. She wants to get rid of the presidency. I mean, these are all the things that the DSA stands for and she is a card-carrying member.”

“[Tiffany] is what’s gonna be on the ballot against someone who literally wants to deconstruct America,” Youngkin said.

“This is what this election eventually is gonna be about — common sense against crazy.”

Youngkin and Tiffany spoke with Fox News after holding a campaign event at a new home development in this outer western suburb of Milwaukee, where Tiffany unveiled his “Unlocking Homeownership in Wisconsin” agenda.

“I just know my friends and neighbors, including some who are Democrats, they are not crazy,” Tiffany said. “They do not believe in some of these crazy policies, abolish prisons, abolish police, highest tax rates that you could possibly have. I mean they do not accept that.”

Past social media posts from Hong have drawn scrutiny, including a 2021 post stating that police “exist to uphold white supremacy” and posts calling to abolish the U.S. Senate and criticizing Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day.

Hong walked back her Thanksgiving comments, amid backlash, and now says that Thanksgiving is her “favorite holiday.”

On her resurfaced tweets, Hong told reporters on Saturday that she had “evolved” and “learned.”

But Tiffany told Fox News ,”[They are] going to do everything they can to walk them back, but people see through this. Those flip-flops, people know about that already and they’re going to know about it as we go through the final, you know, couple months of the campaign. They see through that type of stuff when you are not genuine.”

When asked by Fox News Digital to respond to Tiffany’s criticism by Fox News Digital, Hong characterized her past posts as some “bad takes.”

“You have some hot takes, sometimes bad takes on Twitter,” Hong said about the posts, as she spoke with reporters following a campaign stop in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. “And I let my feelings out into the world.”

Republicans, like Tiffany and Youngkin, have sought to portray Hong’s progressive record as a liability for the battleground state.

“This is a moment for the heartland of America to stand up for America,” Youngkin said of the race.

Tiffany, a hard-right member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus and a former dairy farmer who is endorsed by President Donald Trump, emphasized, “Some people may not agree with a few of the policies that I’m for, but they know I’m genuine. They know I’m authentic.”

Hong has argued that Democratic voters are fed up with the party establishment, claiming her candidacy appeals to a variety of both Democrats and Republicans, who disagree with Trump and his aligned candidates.

Tiffany and Hong enter Tuesday as the frontrunners in their respective primaries, with Tiffany running against medical service technician Andrew Manske, and Hong facing off against three other Democratic candidates — Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley, who is backed by retiring Democratic Gov. Tony Evers, former Wisconsin Department of Administration secretary Joel Brennan, and democratic state Sen. Kelda Roys.

Thousands of lawsuits alleging that social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok encourage addictive usage can proceed after a U.S. federal appeals court on Monday denied their parent companies’ appeal.

The ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit came in response to efforts by Alphabet’s Google; Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram; Snapchat-owner Snap; and ByteDance’s TikTok to reverse a lower California district court decision.

The social media giants argued that they had immunity under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which shields online service providers from liability for third-party content posted on their platforms. Specifically, the companies claimed that Section 230 bars litigation alleging they failed to warn the public that social media can lead to addictive behavior.

Google, Meta, Snap and TikTok did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

“Although Section 230 does not expressly provide for immunity from suit, Meta argues that such immunity should be implied. We disagree,” Circuit Judge Jacqueline Hong-Ngoc Nguyen wrote in her opinion.

Social media companies faced a torrent of lawsuits alleging that their design can cause addictive behavior and harm users’ mental health.

In March, Meta and YouTube were held legally liable for creating products that led to harmful and addictive behavior by young users. TikTok and Snapchat parent Snap were named in the original complaint, but settled before the trial began in late January. The jury in that case awarded $6 million to the lead plaintiff.

President Donald Trump said Monday that “jihadists” are being elected “all over the place” — trying a new, incendiary line of attack against Democrats with the midterm election just three months away.

“Well, the one thing is, we have jihadists being elected all over the place,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, without specifying who he was talking about or offering evidence of his claims.

“We have this whether it’s communism, jihadism,” Trump added.

The president has frequently cast Democrats and democratic socialists as communists, looking to portray the party as increasingly extreme headed into November — even though portrayals of even the party’s most liberal candidates as communists are far from reality.

But calling them “jihadists” is a new escalation, which Trump acknowledged in his remarks Monday, recounting that a “friend of mine called up,” and told him, “’You know, really, you should use the word jihadist because that’s what’s happening.’” The president’s escalating rhetoric comes amid broad lines of attack from others in the GOP seeking to paint Muslim candidates as anti-American.

Trump said that, “as an example,” some of the candidates he termed “jihadist” are coming from countries like Somalia. The president has repeatedly criticized Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Minnesota Democrat who was born in Somalia, came to the United States as a child and is now a naturalized citizen. Trump has previously advocated for sending Omar and another Muslim congresswoman “back from where they came.”

He’s also unleashed increasingly provocative rhetoric against Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, saying at a campaign event in Las Vegas last week that he’s “full of sh*t” and is a “hater of Jews and hater of Israel,” without offering evidence. El-Sayed, who is Muslim, has been critical of the Israeli government.

And over the weekend, Trump shared an image of himself and first lady Melania Trump alongside a photo of El-Sayed and his wife, Sarah Jukaku, who wears a hijab. The caption read: “Two very different America’s.”

In an interview on CNN’s Sate of the Union with Jake Tapper, El-Sayed agreed that the two images offered differing visions of America.

“Yeah, he’s right. One in which your overlords are two people who don’t like each other but joint in the interest of making billions of dollars off of you. Or, two people who genuinely love each other, enjoyed some pancakes together, want to come together to build the kind of America where they can raise a family and know that that family is going to have the good thing,” El-Sayed said. “So, yes, you got two different visions of America.”

And it’s not just Trump engaging in that sort of rhetoric. Shortly after El-Sayed won the Democratic nomination last week, national Republicans repeatedly started referring to him by his full name: Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed.

Previously, Trump has accused Democrats of being taken over by “godless Communists” who pose an existential threat to the country. And while the democratic socialist movement appears set to push the Democratic Party further to the left, the tenets of socialism — much less democratic socialism — are still far removed from the communist ideology that Trump has loudly, and inaccurately, portrayed as a rising threat.

Aug 10 (Reuters) – The U.S. State Department said on Monday it has revoked more than 175,000 visas from foreign nationals under President Donald Trump’s administration, ​as it continues a sweeping immigration crackdown that has stripped travel and ​immigration privileges from tens of thousands more people.

The department said in a statement the revocations targeted foreigners who “violated the terms of their visas, committed crimes, called for ​violence against U.S. citizens, defrauded Americans, abused our immigration system, or ​endangered national security.”

Most visas were revoked following “law enforcement encounters,” with ⁠assault, driving under the influence, theft and drug crimes the leading causes, ​the department said.

Specific cases cited by the department include a person charged ​with felony rape and sexual battery, another charged with kidnapping and human trafficking, and a person facing more than a dozen counts of possessing child sexual abuse material. A ​U.S. embassy in North Africa revoked more than 100 visas from “birth ​tourist” parents who allegedly came to the U.S. primarily to give birth so their children ‌would ⁠receive U.S. citizenship, it said.

The department also said it had revoked the visas of multiple foreigners who “celebrated” the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, including one who said he “died too late.”

In January, the department said it had revoked ​more than 100,000 visas, ​a record ⁠at the time.

The extent of the revocations reflects the broad immigration crackdown initiated when Trump returned to the White ​House last year, deporting an unprecedented number of migrants ​including some ⁠who held valid visas. The administration has also adopted a stricter policy on granting visas, with tightened social media vetting and expanded screening.

Rights advocates and ⁠human ​rights experts have condemned the Trump administration’s social media ​screening efforts, which they say threaten free speech and are akin to surveillance and singling ​out of immigrants.

US farm agency says Texas sterile fly facility to open in spring 2027

WASHINGTON, Aug 10 (Reuters) – The U.S. Department of Agriculture said in a post on X on Monday that a Texas facility to breed sterile flies to combat screwworm will open ahead of schedule in spring 2027.

The first U.S. infestation of the parasitic New World screwworm fly in three decades was detected in Texas in June, threatening as much as $1 billion in losses to the state’s livestock industry.

The main tool used to combat screwworm is the dispersal of sterile screwworm flies, which are mostly produced in Panama at a plant that churns out 100 million flies per week.

The planned Texas plant would produce an additional 100 million sterile flies per week by the end of 2027, according to the post on X from the USDA’s New World Screwworm Rapid Response account.

That production would reach up to 300 million per week by the end of 2028, the post said.

Experts have said about 500 million sterile flies are needed to push screwworm southward to the Darien Gap, the stretch of rainforest between Panama and Colombia.

US judge dismisses criminal case against Indian billionaire Adani

NEW YORK, August 10 (Reuters) – A U.S. judge on Monday dismissed criminal ‌charges against Indian billionaire Gautam Adani, after the Justice Department said it had decided to abandon the fraud and bribery case.

Brooklyn-based U.S. District Judge Nicholas Garaufis’ decision to grant federal prosecutors’ rare bid to toss the case came after he inquired into their reasons for doing so, including ​by asking Adani whether anything was promised in exchange for the dropping of the case.

In November ​2024, before the charges were unsealed, Adani had promised to invest $10 billion in the United States.

Adani ⁠was charged in 2024 with agreeing to bribe Indian government officials so a subsidiary of his Adani Group ​could win approval to develop a solar energy plant, then misleading U.S. investors by providing reassuring information about his company’s ​anti-corruption practices.

Adani Group has consistently denied wrongdoing. Adani himself has not appeared in U.S. court to respond to the charges.

On May 18, the Justice Department announced it would no longer pursue the case. That marked the latest instance in which federal prosecutors had ​sought to drop a high-profile white-collar criminal prosecution during Republican President Donald Trump’s second term in the White House.

Legal experts ​say U.S. judges have little discretion to compel prosecutors to continue with criminal cases they no longer wish to pursue, but ‌the charges ⁠cannot be formally dismissed without a judge’s approval.

Garaufis asked the Justice Department to justify its decision to drop the charges, writing that its “bland and conclusory” announcement did not give him enough information.

In a July 4 court filing, Trent McCotter, a senior Justice Department official, said the case was primarily foreign, hard to prove and inconsistent with the ​agency’s current priorities.

In the filing, ​McCotter also denied as ⁠false what he called media stories suggesting he sought to dismiss the case in part because of a promise by Adani to invest money in the United States.

In ​response, Garaufis asked Adani whether he was “aware of any agreement exchanging anything for the ​dismissal of the ⁠indictment.”

In a sworn declaration filed in court on July 15, Adani said he was not aware of any such agreement. He acknowledged having previously promised to invest $10 billion in the U.S. and said his lawyers told the Justice Department in ⁠meetings that ​the pledge “might be part of a resolution of these matters.”

Robert Giuffra, ​a lawyer for Adani, said in a July 15 court filing that the Justice Department had told him that it would not consider the Adani Group’s ​willingness to invest in the U.S. as part of any resolution.

US House Democrats press Anthropic, OpenAI about rogue AI agents

WASHINGTON, Aug 10 (Reuters) – A coalition of U.S. House Democrats is calling on Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman to explain how their AI systems ​escaped containment during a security test, adding that Congress should hold hearings ‌about the incidents, according to letters the lawmakers sent to the companies on Monday.

OpenAI and Anthropic disclosed in July that their AI agents had broken out of their environments and hacked into the ​systems of other companies during cybersecurity tests.

Twenty-nine lawmakers, led by Representatives Greg Casar ​and Doris Matsui, pressed OpenAI to explain how its AI agents are ⁠monitored during testing, and whether the rogue models evaded the company’s safety controls. The ​lawmakers cited a Reuters report that said there were cases when monitoring systems had been disconnected ​during earlier tests of the OpenAI models. In a separate letter, 22 lawmakers asked Anthropic to detail any safety protocols that the company has implemented since its agents broke into the systems of three ​companies.

“These deeply troubling cybersecurity incidents could have serious implications for America’s national security,” the ​lawmakers wrote in their message to Anthropic.

The letters, released on Monday, are part of a widening debate in ‌Washington ⁠over how aggressively to police a fast-moving AI industry that has largely operated without new federal standards. Lawmakers have released a range of proposals that have not yet moved forward, including a bill that would require developers of the most powerful AI models to submit ​them for independent security ​audits.

U.S. President Donald ⁠Trump’s administration has said very little in public about the Anthropic and OpenAI rogue agents. The president on Friday criticized proposals coming ​out of Congress to govern AI, saying that lawmakers want to regulate ​the industry “out ⁠of business.”

Liberal Senator Bernie Sanders on Monday separately called on Altman, Amodei and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg to “pause” developing new models. He referenced a letter signed by more than 1,100 tech ⁠company employees ​urging the U.S. government to support an international effort ​to develop tools for managing the pace of advanced AI development. Amodei signed that letter, as did staff ​from Meta Platforms, Anthropic, OpenAI and Alphabet’s Google.
