Heading into the midterm election, many Texas Republicans imagined that the worse-case scenario would be Ken Paxton losing the US Senate race to James Talarico.

But as the night continues to unfold, Texas Republicans are beginning to envision a scenario where they lose most statewide offices and even control of the Texas legislature.

Matt Mackowiak, Sen. John Cornyn’s campaign communications director, said in a social media post “The end of Texas as we know it.”

House Speaker Mike Johnson acknowledged it has been a tough night for Republicans and that he was “disappointed” with the results, promising Republicans will take back the House in 2028.

Johnson argued that historic precedent was working against Republicans from the beginning.

“From the first day of this election, we knew that to keep the House and sustain our majority, we would have to defy more than a century of midterm history, OK,” Johnson said. “It’s only happened twice in 90 years that a sitting president has picked up or held seats for his party in that first two-year cycle, and there’s a lot of reasons for it. It’s very, very difficult to overcome, and it looks like history will be kept tonight.”

But Johnson said that there is still a long night ahead.

“It’ll be a long night. You know, they haven’t even closed the polls in some states out there in the West,” he said.

Comparing his war room to the Situation Room, Johnson said, “We’re watching every race.”

“Once we know the final results, I’ll speak a lot more about the midterms in the coming days,” Johnson said.

Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries said “today begins the great American comeback,” Monday night, after Democrats were projected to flip the House.

“House Democrats have taken back control of the United States Congress,” said Jeffries, who is now on the path to become the first Black speaker of the House.

House Democrats understand “we need to deliver dramatic change,” he said. “Things are broken.”

“We will deliver a Congress that puts everyday Americans first,” he added.

By the time the House and Senate had been called for Democrats on Tuesday, a consensus among members of both parties was forming: voters had rejected President Donald Trump’s record in office, and he would face a starkly different political reality for the remainder of his term.

Trump, however, sees it very differently.

“But I don’t view it as a hit on me,” Trump told Fox News in a live phone interview. “We’ve had the greatest two years in the history of the presidency in terms of the economy, in terms of all the things that we’ve done.”

The stunning results across a swath of America were not primarily the fault of the Iran war he began eight months ago — he told the Wall Street Journal that was only a “piece” of it — or the tariffs that drove up prices or his fixation on topics far from voters’ minds, Trump insisted.

It was the candidates who were to blame, he argued, helped along by favorable coverage of Democrats on his once-favorite channel, Fox News. The results were only a “little surprise,” he would later tell that channel. The winds of history were always against him, he’d long warned. He neglected to mention that he had selected many of the candidates himself.

“I thought they’d do better,” he told Fox, referring to Republicans in the third person rather than the party he is currently leading. Later, he attributed the losses to a “mood in the air.”

He also insisted Tuesday night that his governing agenda would continue apace, despite the dramatically altered political conditions in Washington.

Democrats will flip control of both the House and Senate in the 2026 midterm elections in a resounding and historic victory, CNN’s Decision Desk projects.

Democrats capitalized on President Donald Trump’s historic unpopularity to win a major victory and significant power to check a previously untethered Trump and his administration over the final two years of his presidency.

To win the majorities, Democrats swept through even starkly red territory and won races that haven’t gone Democratic in decades. That included winning a Senate seat in South Carolina, which Trump won by 18 points in 2024, and another in Texas, which hadn’t voted for a statewide Democrat since 1994 and even breaking through in Kansas, which hasn’t elected a Democratic senator since 1932.

The change in control of Congress completes a whirlwind last 22 months. It featured Trump coming into office like a wrecking ball and gobbling up executive power with the acquiescence of the Republican-controlled Congress and many institutions. It ends with Republicans suffering a major defeat in the midterm elections.

Only twice in the last 50 years had control of both chambers changed in the same cycle.

The main culprits appear to be inflation, Trump’s tariffs, the Iran war, and voters’ concern about Trump’s conduct and self-enrichment.

CNN’s Voter Poll currently shows more than 6 in 10 voters disapproved of Trump, and more than a majority strongly disapproved. Two-thirds said he had made the economy worse with his policies.

Democrats’ victory in the House was largely expected, given they only needed to net three seats to accomplish it, and the president’s party tends to lose seats in midterm elections.

But Democrats ability to flip the Senate caps a remarkable election. In order to do that, they had to win multiple seats that Trump had carried in 2024 by double digits. They wound up winning in South Carolina, Texas, Ohio, Kansas and Iowa.

The exact sizes of Democrats’ majorities is still yet to be determined as the final election results are counted. But Democrats appear set to have some room for error in both chambers. And both Trump’s veto and the 60-vote threshold for most Senate legislation mean they’re very unlikely to be able to pass much of their preferred agenda.

But controlling the chambers does give Democrats more power to investigate what they see fit to and gives them subpoena power for those investigations. Meanwhile, controlling the Senate means Democrats can halt Trump’s judicial picks, including if there is a Supreme Court vacancy.

Tech mogul Elon Musk poured $168 million into two Texas super PACs aimed at salvaging Republican Ken Paxton’s bid for the Senate and helping the GOP retain its majority in the chamber.

He also devoted millions more to voter outreach in Texas, through his own political group, America PAC, and contributed more than $5 million to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s reelection campaign. CNN Decision Desk projects that Abbott will lose to Democrat Gina Hinojosa.

Overall, Musk has pumped nearly half a billion dollars into federal committees in this election cycle to become the country’s largest publicly disclosed political donor.

Iran’s parliament speaker has weighed in on the US midterm elections, calling the electoral wipeout for President Donald Trump’s Republican party an anti-war message from voters.

“Conscience or the cost of living, Americans said NO TO WAR, and we endorse this message,” Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf wrote in a post on X.

High energy prices and inflation caused by the US-Israel war with Iran have frequently been cited as major reasons for voters’ frustrations with the Trump administration in the run-up to Tuesday’s midterm elections.

Top Republicans have already begun blaming their party’s losses on the fallout from the conflict, which began in late February.

Trump has said he is in no hurry to end the war unless Iran meets his demands, and said Tuesday that the US “might have to go after” Pickaxe Mountain, where Israel believes Tehran has stored part of its enriched uranium stockpile and advanced enrichment centrifuges.

Ghalibaf concluded his message with a warning to the US administration.

Washington — Democrat Abdul El-Sayed defeated former GOP Rep. Mike Rogers in the Michigan Senate race, CBS News projects, becoming the nation’s first Muslim to be elected senator and retaining the seat for Democrats after one of the most contentious contests of the midterm elections.

El-Sayed, 42, is a former Michigan health official who ran on a leftist platform and became a target of the right in the Great Lakes State and beyond. He defeated a more moderate opponent in the Democratic primary, after Democratic Sen. Gary Peters opted not to seek reelection, spurring scrutiny as national Democrats questioned the electability of a progressive candidate in a state that voted for President Trump twice.

Late in the race, El-Sayed’s appeal to Jewish and Black voters was in question over his opposition to U.S. support for Israel and his progressive platform. At the same time, top Republicans, including President Trump and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz called El-Sayed a “jihadist” and member of the Muslim Brotherhood, and implied that electing him could even be deadly to Americans.

“If I am correct that he is a passionate supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood, there is a very real risk that Americans will die as a result,” Cruz said a few days before Election Day.

Mr. Trump invoked the 9/11 terror attacks and Flight 93 in urging Michiganders to oppose El-Sayed, saying, “Twenty-five years later, Michigan needs to stand up and fight, just like Todd Beamer did, to stop a jihadist from walking into the Capitol.”

El-Sayed toldFox News, “I have never been a member of the Muslim Brotherhood, I never will be a member of the Muslim Brotherhood.”

Days before the election, a rift with his former primary opponent, Democratic Rep. Haley Stevens, spilled into public view. Stevens endorsed Rogers on Sunday.

Stevens had called on El-Sayed to condemn an outside group’s ad linking U.S. military aid to Israel to rising grocery prices, which she characterized as antisemitic. El-Sayed noted that the ad “was not made by me” and said he disagrees with its contents. And although Stevens was expected to appear with El-Sayed at a unity event Sunday alongside Rep. Jim Clyburn of South Carolina, El-Sayed told reporters a day earlier, “I would rather not distract from the key issues of this campaign.”

On Sunday, Stevens appeared alongside Rogers at a church in Detroit. She announced her endorsement after the service, where she insisted that she wasn’t “turning her back on Democrats.”

“It is this one vote,” she said. “And I will tell you why: Because when you see hate, when you see us standing with Hasan Piker, and repeated hate, it’s not acceptable.”

El-Sayed faced off against Rogers, an Army veteran and former FBI agent who sought the seat after losing his 2024 Senate bid against Elissa Slotkin by 20,000 votes.

Rogers, 63, billed himself as a common-sense leader for Michigan, while he criticized El-Sayed for his previous comments and views on Israel and Iran, 9/11 and his connection to controversial streamer Hasan Piker. But as Republicans faced a difficult political environment amid the unpopular war in Iran and high gas prices, El-Sayed painted Rogers as a rubber stamp for the president, despite Rogers’ attempts to distance himself from the White House in the leadup to Election Day.

The projected victory comes after a slew of Democratic wins in states the president won comfortably in 2024.

Michigan is staying blue as Republicans’ hopes of flipping the state and gaining some breathing room in their thin majority were crushed.

Abdul El-Sayed, who became the veritable face of this midterm cycle acting as the GOP’s boogeyman for Democratic policies across the country, is projected to topple former Rep. Mike Rogers in what was one of the most-watched contests of the election.

In his victory speech, El-Sayed thanked AIPAC, which spent roughly $42 million running a campaign against him, for allowing him the opportunity to beat the American-Isreali interest PAC twice. El-Sayed celebrated his victory by invoking the Arabic phrase “alhamdulillah” which means “praise be to God.”

The progressive candidate also issued a warning shot to his defeated opponent Rogers.

“Enjoy your retirement,” El-Sayed said of the Republican candidate. “You chose hate, and Michigan chose hope. May we never have to see the likes of you in this state again.”

Meanwhile, close to around 1 a.m. on Wednesday morning, Rogers called on his supporters to go home, sharing that it was going to be a “long night.” Organizers shared with the Detroit News that the hotel needed them out by that time.

Throughout the campaign, El-Sayed outran alleged ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, concerns about his rhetoric over Israel and Jewish voters in Michigan and criticism from fellow Democrats for his ties to controversial political streamer Hasan Piker.

Rogers failed to outrun the political headwinds that have buffeted Republicans this cycle, including affordability issues, President Donald Trump’s trade war with Canada launched in the thick of the midterms, and the Iran war, despite his attempts to distance himself and the administration from the latter issues.

El-Sayed’s victory serves as a major blow to the GOP’s push against the progressive lean in Democratic politics, where for much of the cycle after his shock win over Rep. Haley Stevens, D-Mich., Republicans painted him as the face of socialism and communism in their messaging.

He will also be the first Muslim U.S. senator in history. His faith has been used as a line of attack by Republicans, including President Donald Trump, who last month during a rally in Michigan accused El-Sayed of being a “jihadist” that would “have to go through a metal detector before he’s allowed to go into the Senate.”

“If Abdul and the Democrats win, they will open the floodgates and invite hordes of jihadis to our shores, creating a nightmare of violence and terror until you cannot even have a Christmas,” Trump said.

Rogers similarly dipped into the same style of rhetoric, arguing to a crowd in Bad Axe, Mich., just days before the election that “This is not someone we can let into the United States Senate.”

“If you don’t know Iran is our enemy, and you can’t condemn a Hezbollah-inspired attack, you have no business being in the United States Senate,” Rogers said.

While Rogers and Republicans have run a national campaign against El-Sayed, the insurgent progressive has taken his own jabs at Trump, but largely ran a campaign focused on affordability issues in Michigan.

“They want to point to me and my name and my faith as if somehow that’s the problem, but none of those things are what’s raising your gas prices or making a new home unaffordable,” El-Sayed told reporters last month.

The race attracted big names in both parties to stump for their respective candidates, with Trump, Vice President JD Vance, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and others making the pilgrimage to Michigan for Rogers.

And Democratic heavyweights like former President Barack Obama, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., did the same for El-Sayed.

But El-Sayed’s win does not mean he will jump on board with the Democratic old guard in Washington, D.C. Like other progressives running for the Senate, he’s been publicly critical of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and would prefer Sen. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., to lead Democrats in the Senate.

The Fox News Decision Desk projects former Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper of North Carolina defeating former Republican National Committee (RNC) Chair Michael Whatley, a close ally of President Donald Trump.

The high-profile and expensive ballot box showdown gives Democrats another seat in the Senate as Cooper prepares to succeed retiring GOP Sen. Thom Tillis.

The race was projected as a victory for Cooper with 57.63 votes counted, with 66.40% going to the former Democratic governor and 31.96% going to Whatley.

“North Carolina — I’m grateful for your trust,” Cooper posted on X. “We have more in common than divides us. Here’s to building better days ahead!”

Cooper’s flipping of a GOP-controlled seat in the crucial southeastern battleground state boosts his party as Democrats aim to recapture the Senate majority in the midterm elections.

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee applauded Cooper’s victory.

“In the Senate, he’ll carry on the fight to expand health care access, make stuff cost less, and ensure the American Dream is achievable for every North Carolina,” the DSCC posted on X.

Cooper’s triumph in the Senate race was his seventh straight statewide victory, after winning four elections for attorney general and two for governor.

His continued solid lead over Whatley in public opinion polling spurred top GOP-aligned outside groups a month ago to pull the plug on spending in the North Carolina race. It was seen as a signal that Republicans no longer saw a path to victory in the southeastern battleground state.

Trump, during a rally two weeks ago in North Carolina to try and rescue Whatley, appeared to acknowledge the dire situation, remarking to the crowd that Cooper is “going to become your senator…It’s crazy, you’re going to send him to Washington to represent you.”

Cooper, the first Democrat to win a Senate election in North Carolina in nearly two decades, touted that he would be a “strong, independent senator” who would work with Trump when he could and stand up to him when needed. He focused on cost of living and health care issues as he campaigned for the Senate.

Whatley, a North Carolina native who served as the state’s GOP chair for five years before Trump picked him in March 2024 to serve as RNC chair, was a first-time candidate.

He pledged to create jobs, raise wages, lower costs and keep communities safe. Whatley also said he would be a Trump ally in the Senate.

Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms is projected to win Georgia’s gubernatorial race against Republican businessman Rick Jackson — flipping the governor’s mansion blue for the first time in more than two decades.

Fox News Decision Des projects the former Atlanta mayor will become the Peach State’s first female governor and the first Black woman elected governor in American history.

The victory marks a major breakthrough for Democrats in one of the nation’s most closely contested swing states. Georgia voters had not elected a Democratic governor since Roy Barnes won the 1998 election and took office in 1999, with Republicans capturing the governor’s mansion in 2002 and holding it ever since.

Bottoms, who served as Atlanta’s mayor from 2018 to 2022, later joined former President Joe Biden’s White House as a senior advisor and director of the Office of Public Engagement.

She emerged from the Democratic primary to face Jackson in the open-seat race to succeed term-limited Republican Gov. Brian Kemp.

Jackson, a wealthy healthcare executive and first-time candidate, poured more than $200 million of his personal fortune into his campaign. He defeated Trump-endorsed Lt. Gov. Burt Jones in the Republican primary runoff , setting up the general election against Bottoms.

The race drew national attention in a state that has shifted from a longtime Republican stronghold into a presidential battleground.

Biden narrowly carried Georgia in 2020, becoming the first Democratic presidential candidate to win the state since Bill Clinton in 1992, before President Donald Trump returned it to the Republican column in 2024.

Bottoms campaigned on expanding Medicaid, raising the state’s minimum wage and increasing pay for public employees, while Jackson called for phasing out Georgia’s income tax and pitched himself as a political outsider who would bring a businessman’s approach to state government.

Jackson repeatedly targeted Bottoms’ record as Atlanta mayor, while Bottoms attacked the Republican’s massive self-funding and sought to tie him to Trump.

The Fox News Decision Desk projects that Democratic challenger Annie Andrews has defeated appointed GOP Sen. Darline Graham, the younger sister of the late longtime Sen. Lindsey Graham, to win a six-year term representing South Carolina in the Senate.

With her major upset, Andrews, a pediatrician who ran as an outsider, becomes the first Democrat in nearly three decades to win a Senate election in South Carolina.

Having a very familiar name in South Carolina and receiving two 11th-hour campaign trail stops by President Donald Trump weren’t enough to help push Graham over the finish line in the ruby-red southeastern state.

The race became increasingly competitive in the final weeks of the campaign. And outside groups aligned with Republicans and Democrats poured cash and resources into the ballot box showdown at the 11th hour.

With some of the top nonpartisan political handicappers shifting the contest in the direction of the Democrats, Trump traveled to South Carolina with less than two weeks until Election Day to rally with Graham.

“She’s smart and incredible. She’ll never let you down,” Trump said as he praised Graham at an Oct. 21 stop in Upstate South Carolina.

Democratic strategist Mally Smith told Fox News Digital that “South Carolina bows to no king.”

“President Trump tried to hand-pick his successor in South Carolina, and the voters emphatically rejected his choice. Americans are sick of electing MAGA puppets to higher office who enable Trump’s erratic behavior and blatant corruption,” said Smith.

During the general election campaign, Graham emphasized her support for Trump’s agenda, continuing her brother’s work in the Senate, and spotlighting cost of living issues.

“I know how it feels to live paycheck to paycheck. There’s been many years in my life that I’ve lived paycheck to paycheck like a lot of South Carolinians. So I know they’re feeling it at the gas pumps,” Graham said in a recent interview on Fox News’ “America Reports.”

“Suspending the gas tax, that’s a temporary solution. I’m all for that. I’m glad that President Trump eased regulations on red-dyed diesel. I think that helps farmers. But the long-term solution is easing regulations on drilling and oil refineries.”

Andrews also made affordability, along with healthcare costs, a centerpiece of her Senate campaign, and highlighted her experience as a pediatrician working with children and families.

“I never in a million years thought I would be running for federal office, let alone a US Senate seat, but I have 20 years of experience working inside America’s broken healthcare system, coming face to face with all of Washington’s failures in my hospital exam rooms. And I take that experience and I bring it to the campaign trail,” Andrews emphasized in a recent Fox News Digital interview.

After her brother’s sudden death in July, GOP Gov. Henry McMaster appointed Graham to fill the remainder of the late senator’s current term, which concludes at the end of this year.

At the time of his death, Lindsey Graham had won renomination in South Carolina’s June primary. With Trump’s urging and support, Graham ran in a special Republican Senate nomination primary to succeed her brother. She defeated Rep. Ralph Norman in a late August runoff election after the two advanced two weeks earlier from a crowded 10-candidate primary.

Rep. Byron Donalds just made history as the first Black politician to win a gubernatorial election in Florida as Fox News Decision Desk projected the congressman winning Tuesday’s election.

He is also the first Black Republican in the nation’s history elected governor.

Donalds, a three-term congressman from southwest Florida, defeated Democratic rival former Rep. David Jolly in a close race to win the Sunshine State’s gubernatorial election, the Fox News Decision Desk projects.

With his victory, the top House ally of President Donald Trump and MAGA champion with a growing national profile will succeed term-limited GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis in steering the nation’s third most populous state.

“I am humbled and grateful beyond measure,” Donalds said in a victory statement posted to X. “As your Governor, I will give you everything I have. We are going to make life in Florida more affordable. We are going to keep our streets safe. We are going to invest in our young people so that they can attain the Florida Dream that all of us love so dearly. Florida is the envy of the nation. I will fight day and night to keep it that way and to lift our state to even greater heights.”

Continuing and building upon DeSantis’ conservative agenda was a key part of Donalds’ campaign for governor.

Donalds was endorsed by Trump in February of last year, before he even formally launched his campaign for governor. Donalds declared his candidacy for governor during an appearance on Fox News’ “Hannity.”

Backed by Trump, Donalds won nearly half the vote in Florida’s August GOP gubernatorial primary. He topped a crowded field of rivals that included Lt. Gov. Jay Collins, former Florida House Speaker Paul Renner, and business executive James Fishback.

Donalds made headlines in late September when some references to Trump, whose approval ratings have continued to decline, were scrubbed from his campaign website.

A New York City native, Donalds moved to Florida to attend college. He worked in the finance, insurance, and banking fields before entering politics. A one-time Democrat, he became a Republican in 2010 amid the Tea Party movement. Donalds was elected to the Florida House in 2016, serving two terms before winning a seat in Congress.

Jolly, a Florida native who served as a top advisor to then-Rep. Bill Young, also worked as a lawyer and a lobbyist before winning a special congressional election in March of 2014. He won a full two-year term to the House later that year before losing re-election in 2016.

After leaving office he became a vocal Trump critic and a cable news political commentator. Jolly left the GOP in 2018 and became a Democrat last year before launching his gubernatorial campaign.

During their showdown for governor, Donalds showcased anti-socialism messaging, repeatedly claiming that Jolly embraced “radical socialism.”

Firing back, Jolly told Fox News two weeks ago, “Byron Donalds is a liar. I’ve condemned socialism in the DSA [Democratic Socialists of America] hundreds of times, and he knows that.”

Florida was once the largest of the general election battlegrounds, but the state has shifted to the right over the past decade. DeSantis won his 2022 re-election by nearly 20 points and Trump carried the state by 13 points in his 2024 White House re-election victory.

But despite Republicans enjoying a roughly 1.5 million registered voter advantage over the Democrats in the Sunshine State, Democrats are competitive again in Florida thanks to a rough political climate facing the GOP.

迪内希说，根据《工作场所安全与卫生法令》，雇主须采取合理且切实可行的措施，保障员工的安全，包括保护他们免受烟霾影响。雇主须遵守人力部的烟霾指导原则，依据每日空气污染指数（PSI）预测，规划隔日的户外工作安排。

他透露，人力部稽查后发现，最常见的违规情况是未对烟霾危害进行风险评估，或风险评估不完整。人力部已向有关雇主发出违例通知，要求他们纠正，否则他们将面对销案罚款。

此外，人力部也根据一小时悬浮颗粒PM2.5浓度指数发布参考原则，协助雇主及时调整现场工作安排。人力部鼓励雇主采取参考原则的措施，并将继续提醒雇主落实这些措施，包括在稽查时提醒。

在地缘政治紧张局势加剧、经济不确定性上升之际，新加坡国家发展部兼外交部政务部长陈圣辉呼吁亚太经济合作组织（APEC）各经济体加强区域互联互通，维护全球能源供应链稳定和海上贸易航道畅通安全，并通过务实合作应对共同挑战。

根据新加坡外交部文告，陈圣辉与人力部兼能源、贸易及工业部政务部长符策翔，星期二（11月3日）出席由中国以视讯方式主办的第37届APEC部长级会议。

陈圣辉在会上指出，本区域当前面临紧张局势升温、互信削弱和供应链中断等挑战。世界贸易组织估计，若多边贸易体系分裂成不同集团，全球国内生产总值（GDP）可能减少5.1%。

他说，为应对这些挑战，并实现APEC“布城愿景2040”提出的建设开放、和平的亚太共同体的目标，各方必须聚焦两个方面：保持区域开放与互联互通，以及寻求共同点、开展务实合作。
