Obama calls Trump administration’s investigation into Ilhan Omar ‘appalling’

Former President Barack Obama on Sunday called the Justice Department’s investigation into Rep. Ilhan Omar “appalling,” saying the government is attempting to intimidate and deport one of President Donald Trump’s most outspoken critics.

“The full weight of the federal government is being brought down on a law-abiding elected official because she has dared to criticize the president,” Obama wrote on social media.

The former president said the recent search of the Minnesota Democrat’s Washington, DC, home was to “uncover a nonexistent smoking gun from 20 years ago that will somehow make their case.” CNN previously reported that the search was related to an immigration fraud probe investigating whether Omar’s father lied about her age when she obtained her US citizenship in 2000.

Omar has sought to dismantle the basis of the probe, saying she became a lawfully naturalized citizen in 2000 after fleeing Somalia in 1995.

“The fact that any president, or any administration, is willing to engage in such transparent efforts to intimidate someone should outrage all Americans, regardless of how they feel about Congresswoman Omar’s political views,” Obama said in his post. “Because if this becomes the new normal, there’s no reason to believe it will stop with her — or that future presidents, in either party, won’t do the same.”

While the government has not yet indicated it will attempt to strip Omar of her citizenship, Trump said in a post to Truth Social earlier this year that he’d like to see her sent to Somalia. Omar has not been charged with a crime, and the Justice Department has not revealed any evidence against her. Omar has disputed the legality of last week’s search and demanded the return of her property seized by federal agents.

Trump told reporters last week that the search “has nothing to do with me.”

“I think she’s a terrible person, but that’s really up to the DOJ. I have nothing to do with it,” he said.

Along with Obama, other prominent Democrats have defended Omar. House Democratic leaders called the search “deeply disturbing” and said it “raises serious questions about the continued corrupt weaponization of the federal government against Donald Trump’s adversaries.”

Omar, who is running for reelection, called the search “the latest escalation” in Trump’s “campaign of political intimidation.” “I will not be silenced,” she said last week in a statement on X.

The search of her home was highly unusual for its timing. Generally, the Justice Department avoids overt investigative activity that could affect an election within 60 days of Election Day, and the search occurred less than a month before voting ends.

CNN’s Katelyn Polantz contributed to this report.

Trump endorses Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ahead of reelection bid

    2026-10-18T12:04:00-0400 / CBS News

    Updated on: October 18, 2026 / 2:38 PM EDT / CBS/AP

President Trump on Sunday endorsed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for reelection, saying on social media that he “has been a Great Warrior Prime Minister, and an even greater Partner for Peace in combatting the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

This is a coveted boost for Netanyahu because of Mr. Trump’s popularity in Israel but one that the U.S. leader withheld for months as their strategies in the Middle East diverged.

Netanyahu’s government, the most nationalist and far-right in Israel’s history, faces domestic criticism over security failures and international criticism over the treatment of Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza. Some of the government’s senior officials are settlers themselves.

“Bibi Netanyahu has been Strong, Brave, and Brilliant in the face of tremendous opposition, including that coming from even Israel, itself. Despite all of that, he has endured and, in fact, he has thrived!” Mr. Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Netanyahu, on X, thanked Mr. Trump for his “tremendous support and the joint work.”

“Together we will complete the mission!” he added.

Netanyahu’s Likud Party attached to the statement a 35-second video showing clips of the two leaders together and Mr. Trump praising the prime minister.

In a separate video message shared on social media, Netanyahu said he was “honored and humbled” by Mr. Trump’s endorsement and that there has “never been a greater friend of Israel in the White House.”

In the video, he also sent a message to the American people about the importance of not letting Iran have a nuclear weapon.

“If you’re worried about today’s gas prices, think of what will happen if Iran gets nuclear weapons — something that Donald Trump and I will never allow,” Netanyahu said. “And when that happens, when that regime disappears, gas prices will go down, and how? But only under Trump.”

It was not immediately clear what impact the endorsement would have on what is expected to be a tight race. Mr. Trump is still popular in Israel, but many Israelis, including leading commentators, have expressed disappointment over the inconclusive outcome of the Iran war and Mr. Trump’s ceasefire proposal, which fell short of many of the countries’ key goals when they jointly launched the war in February.

In his post, Mr. Trump again threatened to “soon finish the job” against Iran “unless they change their ways, rapidly,” but added he might not want to if Netanyahu loses the election.

“If Israel has the wrong Leader, which would be anyone other than Bibi, America will have to do this work ourselves, and I am not inclined to do so,” Mr. Trump said.

The U.S. leader and Netanyahu have been close allies and seem more aligned than ever in the wake of the joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities in 2025. But over the course of the nearly eight-month war with Iran this year, they have had disagreements.

Israelis are set to vote on Oct. 27, which will be the first national elections since the 2023 Hamas attack on Israel.

事实上,民众可以登录angienixon.com为我们的竞选活动捐款。

MARGARET BRENNAN: We turn now to Florida State Representative Angie Nixon. She is the Democratic Party’s nominee for Senate, and she joins us from Gainesville. Good morning to you.

ANGIE NIXON: Good morning. Happy to be here with you.

MARGARET BRENNAN: Well, it’s good to talk you.

ANGIE NIXON: And to the nation.

MARGARET BRENNAN: It’s good to talk to you. You identify as a progressive, but I know this past June you joined the Democratic Socialists of America during your primary bid. Our CBS polling shows 42% of Americans have a somewhat or very negative view of socialism. I’m wondering what elements of the Democratic Socialist platform drew you to it. How do you define your vision here?

ANGIE NIXON: For sure. So first of all, thank you for having me on the show today, and I think it’s really important for me to lay the groundwork because a lot of people—this is my first introduction to them. I am someone who is a lifelong Floridian, having worked in the state of Florida as a community organizer and a union organizer, and our campaign is on fire. We actually had over 4,000 people show up yesterday at rallies, and some in deep red counties, and we are on fire. We were able to outfundraise our opponent by over $2 million in this past quarter, and I know in regards to my joining that organization, it’s not about letters, but it is actually about the fact that we are fighting to ensure that there’s access to quality health care for everyone, and access to fully funded public schools, in addition to ensuring people have a roof over their head, my opponent, Ashley Moody, actually voted to end health care for over 440,000 people here in the state of Florida, which also jacked up premiums for private people—private insurance, and so I just want to make sure that people don’t go bankrupt simply because they’re trying to live or go to the doctor.

MARGARET BRENNAN: Okay, so on the specifics with your platform, you call for Medicare for all, a national rent stabilization standard, raising the federal minimum wage, abolishing ICE, and a 5% annual wealth tax on billionaires. If you win, you would have two years here in Congress with a Republican president in office. What areas of agreement do you see, if any? How would you work across the aisle with Republicans?

ANGIE NIXON: You know, I would work across the aisle with whoever wants to put hardworking everyday people at the forefront. I mean, right now, what we’re witnessing in D.C. and with my opponent Ashley Moody is a culture of corruption. Ashley Moody is someone who has enriched herself in the tune of $2 million because she is trading stocks, and of which she actually has the opportunity. She’s sitting on committees, health- healthcare committees, where she has access to insider stock trading information. She also has been able to—she also has actually been able to, she’s just not listening to what Floridians want. She is rubber stamping everything that Donald Trump wants as well. You know, she’s deporting—she’s okay with his deportation policies, locking people up in cages, and it’s something that I would work to stop when I become the next United States senator.

MARGARET BRENNAN: You made reference to a number of things there in regard to your opponent. There was a grand jury finding that the DeSantis administration misappropriated taxpayer funds to a charity called Hope Florida, but there were no charges brought against the senator. She has denied any wrongdoing. But moving along to issues in this campaign, you have talked about some frustration that you’re not getting more support from the Democratic Party. You told MS Now in September they could do a lot more to help you. You pointed out Florida has a very large black population, and you said “Folks are a little gun shy because Vice President Harris lost as a black woman, and so people are very hesitant in terms of funding black women in the South.” You did just campaign with Bernie Sanders. Senator Chris Murphy was just down there as well. Do you think now you are getting support from the National Party?

ANGIE NIXON: You know we are excited with all of the folks that are coming down, helping to ensure that we get this W in November, and I’m excited that folks like Leader Schumer as well as Senator Gillibrand have decided to host fundraisers, and we’re getting support. We always want even more support. But again, I’m also excited because this is a people-powered campaign, and we’ve had over 300,000 contributions, and those average donations are around $31. So that lets people know that your regular, everyday working people are supportive of this campaign. Look, we are not the little engine that could. We have been on the ground organizing, doing the work, building diverse coalitions all across the state of Florida. Previously, with very little help, and I have led those efforts from doing things like expanding and increasing the minimum wage to $15 an hour here in this state, and that is what we are going to take part in and you know incorporate here on this campaign those coalitions of people, and that’s how we’re going to be able to win come November.

MARGARET BRENNAN: But you think you are getting the help you need now?

ANGIE NIXON: We’re getting help, but we always can use more. As a matter of fact, people can go to angienixon.com to donate to our campaign.

MARGARET BRENNAN: I just want to move on to some other issues here on your platform, but you did when you were talking about your opponent—I want to come back to language here because you have said you want to keep funding the police. You said that’s wrong for your opponent to accuse you of trying to defund the police.

    ANGIE NIXON: Yeah, absolutely.

MARGARET BRENNAN: You’ve said she should be locked up and punished in jail. Given in the past that Democrats have expressed discomfort with some Republicans using that kind of language, do you worry that that sounds like a desire to weaponize the justice system?

ANGIE NIXON: It’s not language to weaponize the—It’s not a desire to weaponize the justice system. It’s designed to actually hold corrupt politicians accountable for what they’re doing. Again, I want an investigation done. I would like the Department of Justice to investigate because nearly $10 million was stolen from sick kids, and people are pointing the finger saying they don’t know who did it, and so we need to bring that in. Look, this is Donald Trump 2.0 here in the state of Florida, and we really need to work to push back. I’m wondering how many kids are going to die because $10 million was taken from Medicaid that was supposed to make sure that those sick kids had the treatment that they needed here.

MARGARET BRENNAN: Okay, well, as we mentioned, Senator Moody has denied wrongdoing. But thank you for your time. It’s good to meet you, Angie Nixon. We will be watching your race in November. We’ll be right back with a lot more. Face the Nation. Stay with us.

Transcript: Sen. Kevin Cramer on “Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan,” Oct. 18, 2026

    2026-10-18T12:48:00-0400 / CBS News

The following is the transcript of the interview with Sen. Kevin Cramer, Republican of North Dakota, that aired on “Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan” on Oct. 18, 2026.

MARGARET BRENNAN: Welcome back to Face the Nation. We go now to North Dakota Republican Senator Kevin Cramer, who joins us from Bismarck. Good morning to you, Senator.

SENATOR KEVIN CRAMER (R-ND): Good morning. Good to be with you.

MARGARET BRENNAN: I want to ask you about Ukraine. I know you just recently traveled there. A number of your departing, some retiring, Senate Republican colleagues have made clear they were very upset with President Trump’s decision to waive the Lindsey Graham sanctions off of Russia and buyers of Russian oil. Senator Cornyn said Lindsey would be appalled. Senator Tillis said it is beyond irresponsible, unconscionable to capitulate to Vladimir Putin. Where do you stand?

SEN. CRAMER: Well, Margaret, on this topic and a whole bunch of others, I think capitulating to a bully generally means they’re going to make more demands going forward. That’s the problem with taking sort of a business negotiation approach to negotiating with a thug, which is what Vladimir Putin is. So I share those colleagues’ positions on it. However, I also have to acknowledge that we are few weeks or a couple weeks from an election. One of the important topics of the election is the cost of diesel fuel. It’s really an important issue here in North Dakota.

As Representative Turner pointed out, and I was cheering him on, our allies throughout Europe have been buying energy from Vladimir Putin and funding his war machine for decades and they should stop right now. Having said all of that, I expect this will be a short-term pause, and I certainly hope so, because one of the things that President Zelenskyy asked of us when I was with him on last Thursday, I think it was Thursday or Friday, was that the president would fully enforce the Lindsey Graham sanctions bill. And I still take that position.

MARGARET BRENNAN: Yeah. And some European Union countries do continue to buy fuel products. India and China would be the largest purchasers who would be hit by these tariffs. So do you think the president would actually even post-election trigger the tariffs on China?

SEN. CRAMER: Well, I certainly hope that he does, Margaret. Again, speaking of thugs who will never agree to terms, or at least not continue to agree to terms that would be negotiated, Xi Jinping is another one. I think we have to start approaching our geopolitical negotiations the way that we ought to, and not the way that you do in a boardroom. You know, this is not a finality outcome to a dictator. The outcome of a negotiation with a dictator is more, you know, asking for more demands. And we have to start playing nice with our friends and treating our adversaries like they are adversaries.

MARGARET BRENNAN: You just met with President Zelenskyy. As you know, President Trump publicly blasted him again this week and said Ukraine needs another new president. Let me ask you something specific about how they defend themselves and conduct this war. Starshield is a U.S. military program which Ukraine says that they use to fire into Russian-held territory. Last night, Secretary Rubio said Ukraine does not currently have access to it, but they have asked to use it to fire deep inside of Russia. When you were in Ukraine, as I understand it, you were presenting a proposal to President Zelenskyy to allow for Starshield access expansion if Ukraine stops striking Russian energy assets. What can you tell us about that proposal and what is the status of it?

SEN. CRAMER: So that, you’re right, that was a proposal we brought to President Zelenskyy. Senator Wicker, Roger Wicker, the chairman of the Armed Services Committee, came up with that idea. President Zelensky was enthusiastic about it. He said, I’d do that tomorrow. I would absolutely stop attacking Russia’s energy facilities if I could have access to targeting capabilities, which is what Starshield would provide them, to go deep into Russia and attack their attackers, in other words, their launch facilities, kill the archer, not the arrows. Of course, the third thing he asked for was the capacity to get licensed to jointly produce, co-produce Patriot missile interceptors, which would help him defend against these much faster now jet-powered drones and missiles coming into Ukraine.

So his requests were three. They were simple. And I agree with all three of them. So I would hope we can get to that point where- remembering that what President Zelenskyy is protecting are civilians. Russia has chosen to go after civilian populations, while President Zelenskyy has simply gone after the launchers and, more importantly, the war machine’s funding source, which is energy.

MARGARET BRENNAN: Right, bringing us back to where we started here. Ukraine has resumed, just even overnight, hitting Russian oil refineries. They hit the St. Petersburg oil terminal. Russia has been targeting the energy infrastructure inside of Ukraine. Secretary Rubio said there are talks ongoing. Have you talked to Secretary Rubio about your exchange with President Zelenskyy? Who in the administration is actually trying to bring this to a close?

SEN. CRAMER: So I have not talked to Marco, although as I was watching your previous segment, I just said to my staff, I wish I would have called Marco. But obviously he and others are involved with it, including Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. I thin– but I worry, Margaret, that there’s a disconnect. Once again, I go back to my earlier illustration. There’s a disconnect between traditional, mutually beneficial negotiations between business people and the difference between somebody’s protecting humanity itself versus somebody who wants to take humanity down. And so I worry about that. So who exactly is negotiating these things? I don’t know who’s calling shots. But at the end of the day, I think the president is, you know, it’s where the buck stops. And I think he accepts that.

MARGARET BRENNAN: So is Senator Wicker presenting this deal to the White House? What are you doing with what you negotiated?

SEN. CRAMER: Oh yeah, yes, for sure. I mean, we had talked to people in the White House at the Department of War and to the State Department even prior to meeting with President Zelenskyy.

MARGARET BRENNAN: So do you join your colleagues, Senator Tillis and Senator Shaheen, in calling for an investigation of what has happened here in terms of whether U.S. government officials knew that Starlink was going to be interrupted, which impacts Ukraine’s ability to use its drones and defend its people?

SEN. CRAMER: Well, I certainly support investigating what was the source of that decision, if in fact it was a decision at all. It may very well have been some sort of a technical glitch. I don’t know for sure or whose call it was. So far, nobody’s taking credit for making that call or the blame for it. So I do support some sort of an investigation. Certainly Congress itself could and should investigate. I think the letter that Senator Shaheen and Senator Tillis are talking about would be an inspector general investigation, perhaps.

But, sure, we want to get to the bottom of it. In the meantime, what’s more important is that that power is put back on full scale and that we actually enhance Ukraine’s ability to hit these launch facilities inside of Russia, deeper inside to like 300 kilometers, I think is what President Zelenskyy was asking for.

MARGARET BRENNAN: Yeah. President Zelenskyy said today that it has been restored, but has been throttled back. And in terms of that Starshield expansion, as you say, no deal yet. Let me ask you about something closer to home. You said this summer that you “hate,” that was the word you used, President Trump’s decision to import foreign beef tariff-free because it’s not America first, wrongheaded and threatens the future of U.S. food production. The White House did not reverse course, despite those tough words from you. How negative has that been for your state? And is that going to infect- affect- I should say, the enthusiasm for voters to show up in November? Are these ranchers just so ticked off they’re not going to vote?

SEN. CRAMER: Well, first of all, Margaret, it won’t have any effect in North Dakota in the election cycle. We don’t have a governor up. The president’s obviously not up. We don’t even have a senator up. And we’re gonna have an overwhelming Republican victory here. Having said that, it’s very discouraging to our ranchers. Again, I think there’s a misunderstanding of commodity cycles, commodity economic cycles. Ranchers rebuild their herds when prices are high. Their herds are obviously made much smaller when prices are low. That’s why- that’s why the countercyclical effect of commodity prices are well known to us, and why it’s discouraging when we reduce or eliminate the barriers to to importing somebody else’s beef, which is not nearly as safe or as high quality, at the cost of- at the cost of- our local ranchers. They rely on these higher prices. And by the way, I doubt that bringing in a bunch of Argentine beef is going to bring the price at the grocery store down–

    MARGARET BRENNAN: –It hasn’t–

SEN. CRAMER: –It has not. But it will hurt the market price of the cattle themselves. Now, ranchers are going up against lots of other problems as well, including the concentration of meat packing in the United States, where about a third or more is literally owned by the Chinese and the Brazilians. So they’re going up against a lot of things, but their input costs are also higher. They don’t come down because the price of a cow goes down. But yeah, so I still strongly oppose it, and I think it was wrongheaded.

MARGARET BRENNAN: Right. Well, I wanted to get your insight on that because we’re seeing that dynamic in other states as well, including Kansas. So, Senator, thank you so much for your time today. We’re going to have to leave it there. We’ll be right back.

Trump says construction at historic Washiongton, D.C. golf course will start next month

President Trump said Sunday that construction on a historic Washington, D.C., golf course will begin next month, despite an ongoing court challenge to his long-sought renovation of the East Potomac Golf Links course.

“I am pleased to announce that the Department of the Interior, under the auspices of Secretary Doug Burgum, and in conjunction with famed Golf Course Architect, Tom Fazio, has developed a plan to build a World Class Championship Golf Course on the site of the current East Potomac Golf Links, located in Washington, D.C.,” Mr. Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.

The president, who did not acknowledge the court challenge in his post, said that while the new golf course would remain open to the public, it would also be designed to host tournaments like the U.S. Open, the PGA Championship, the Ryder Cup and the Presidents Cup. He also billed it as a “tremendously positive” economic opportunity for D.C. that would “create many jobs.”

Mr. Trump described the current course as an “old, broken, dilapidated, and of no further use or effect … with falling, dangerous, and disease infested trees, and, importantly, a collapsing and hazardous seawall.” He said the site “was famous for no trees” originally but has since become “overgrown, dysfunctional, and unsafe.”

Mr. Trump said construction will begin Nov. 15 on the course, which will be closed for about 15 months until the new one opens.

A golfer walks past the stump of a large tree at the East Potomac Golf Links, Monday, Oct. 12, 2026, in Washington, D.C. AP Photo/Mark Schiefelbein

His announcement Sunday came less than a week after a federal judge barred the Trump administration from removing trees at the current golf course through Oct. 16, after hundreds of trees were cut down the weekend prior.

U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes said in the order that until that date, the administration may not make “any irreparable modification” to the East Potomac course without first providing three business days’ notice of such plans to the court, as well as to the plaintiffs in a lawsuit seeking to stop Mr. Trump’s planned overhaul of the site.

“The administration has time and again tried to avoid the law in their mad rush toward converting a public recreation space to a high-end golf course and today’s order will stop them from doing further irreparable harm to a precious public resource,” said attorneys for the plaintiffs, the D.C. Preservation League and two local golfers, in response to the judge’s order. “We are pleased that the court intervened and will prevent additional work while we seek more lasting relief.”

Immigrants from Ukraine and Sudan to retain deportation protections for now

    2026-10-18T13:44:00-0400 / CBS News

    By
    Camilo Montoya-Galvez

Immigrants from Ukraine and Sudan enrolled in the Temporary Protected Status policy will be able to live and work in the U.S. without fear of deportation for the time being, even though their protections were set to expire soon, the Department of Homeland Security told CBS News on Sunday.

The TPS protections of tens of thousands of Ukrainians and hundreds of Sudanese immigrants were officially slated to terminate on Monday.

But in statements on Sunday, DHS said final decisions on the fate of the humanitarian immigration programs will “be made at the appropriate time.”

Until such decisions are announced, DHS added, nationals of Ukraine and Sudan enrolled in the TPS program will “retain protection.”

The decisions to keep the deportation protections in place, albeit not final, stand in sharp contrast to the Trump administration’s broader posture toward TPS programs.

Trump administration officials have routinely denounced TPS as a de facto amnesty policy abused by the Biden administration that encourages illegal immigration and that has been extended too often, despite its temporary nature.

Over the past year and a half, the Trump administration, as part of its aggressive immigration crackdown, has revoked the TPS protections of more than 1 million immigrants from over a dozen countries, including Afghanistan, Haiti and Venezuela.

The programs for Ukrainian and Sudanese nationals are among a handful of TPS policies that have remained in place nearly two years into President Trump’s second term, alongside the protections for tens of thousands of immigrants from El Salvador. Their TPS program was also set to lapse last month, but DHS retained their protections, pending a final announcement.

Created in 1990 by Congress, TPS allows the U.S. government to offer a temporary deportation reprieve and work permits to immigrants, illegal and legal alike, who hail from countries facing armed conflict, an environmental disaster or another crisis that makes their return there unsafe.

The TPS policy for Ukrainians was first announced by the Biden administration in the spring of 2022, soon after Russia launched its full-blown invasion of Ukraine. As of March 2025, there were more than 100,000 Ukrainians enrolled in TPS, including those allowed into the U.S. under a Biden-era sponsorship policy.

The TPS program for Sudan has been around since the late 1990s, with different administrations extending the policy due to the armed conflict and political turmoil that has plagued the African nation. As of March 2025, roughly 1,800 Sudanese nationals had TPS.

When Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed could not say Iran is a bigger threat to the U.S. than Israel, it was a warning of elections in a post-Oct. 7 world, Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) president Morton Klein says.

American and even Israeli leaders are failing to show strength against hate as anti-Zionist voices gain power, Klein told Fox News Digital in a Monday interview.

“Ilhan Omar is one of the most vicious Jew haters in America,” Klein said, speaking on behalf of himself and not as the leader of the ZOA. “And it is very painful to me that the leaders of the Democratic Party have not continuously and vigorously condemned her” and other antisemitic political leaders, including Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., El-Sayed and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

They are not merely “pro-Palestinian” voices, Klein says: “They’re anti-Israel voices. They don’t really give a damn about the Palestinians either. They just hate Jews in the Jewish state. That’s my opinion.”

The ZOA is a 501(c)(3) that is unpermitted by law to talk candidacies as opposed to their positions, Klein stressed, before unloading on the voices that take aim at Israel and ostensibly handing political power to the antisemites and terrorists – which even includes Israeli elections just two weeks from now.

“Viciously antisemitic members of Congress have not been condemned in any significant way by the Democratic Party,” he continued. “So it’s disappointing to me as an American that we don’t condemn people who are filled with hate and not filled with what’s best for America.”

Anti-Israel rhetoric has moved from the political fringe into elected office, he said, warning that Democrats have not forcefully condemned members of their own party who he says traffic in antisemitism.

It has even forced Israeli leaders to move toward a dangerous level of “appeasement,” according to Klein.

“I blame the Jewish leaders and the Israeli leaders themselves: You might find that surprising,” he said. “The Israeli government over the years has not made it clear that the Hamas Charter has two clauses that say, murder every Jew on earth, destroy Israel. And, most recently, El-Sayed not only refused to clearly name Iran, the world’s leading state sponsor of terror, as a greater threat than Israel during a Michigan Senate debate, “he said worse,” Klein lamented.

“He said both of them are dangerous to America, and he said Israel is as evil as Hamas,” he continued.

“The Democratic Party has not condemned him. Worse, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer endorsed him, has given him tens of millions of dollars to run,” Klein said. “Elissa Slotkin, the senator from Michigan, Jewish senator, has endorsed him. And Dana Nessel, the attorney general, Jewish attorney general has endorsed them. This is disgraceful.”

“If this guy was unequivocally anti-Black, they would have all condemned him. Why don’t they condemn people who hate Jews for no reason whatsoever? It’s very, very frightening,” he said.

During his push to hold the Michigan Senate seat for Democrats, Abdul El-Sayed described Judaism as “a light unto the world,” expressing deep gratitude for the Jewish community’s contributions.

“My commitment to Jewish safety is equivalent to the commitment to the safety of my own daughters,” he said.

Klein also weighed in on Mamdani for declining to condemn the phrase “globalize the intifada, a call to violence against Jews around the world, he warned.

“Mamdani was asked to condemn the phrase, globalize the intifada … he refused to condemn this phrase,” Klein said. “This guy is a monster. He is a jihadist Jew-hater supporter of terrorism.”

Despite the criticism, Mamdani has pledged to “protect our Jewish neighbors” and stated his commitment to “mourning with them, and committing to fight against evil and antisemitism.”

As Mamdani has done explicitly, Israel is often portrayed as the aggressor and perpetrator of a so-called “genocide” in Gaza, Klein observed, stating that the reality is those atrocities were committed by Hamas terrorists Oct. 7, when terrorists invaded Israel specifically to kill “Jews,” not merely “people,” Klein said.

“They went in house to house, door to door, murdering every single family,” Klein said. “Can you imagine? They go in and there’s a mother and a father and children sitting, they’re scared out of their minds, and they shoot them to death. And oftentimes they raped the mother first and then they murdered them. Then they put babies into ovens and killed them that way. It’s just a nightmare what they did.”

“Yes, their goal is to murder every single Jew. In fact, the leaders of Hamas have said repeatedly: ‘We will have many, many more Oct. 7s; you wait, many, more Oct. 7s,” he added.

Klein said any future Israeli government after the Oct. 27 elections must be “as tough as nails, responding with overwhelming force for any terrorism,” and do as the “the people demanded: destroy Hamas.”

Klein warned, however, that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could be weakened politically if he is forced to form an alliance with left-of-center parties after Israel’s elections.

“The polls show that it’s likely that Netanyahu will win again, but he may have to have a broader coalition to bring in people from the left of center,” Klein warned. “I think the odds are high Bibi will continue to be the prime minister. But his hands will be somewhat tied if he’s forced, and I think he will be forced, to bring people from left of the center to have coalition.”

Asked whether the process of forming a coalition could weaken Israel’s response, Klein answered, “Yes.”

“Yes, because some of the left-of-center people are appeasement-oriented,” Klein said. “They still believe just give the Arabs more, it’ll be all right.”

“And people have to understand, and these people don’t quite understand, this is not a war about land or about a Palestinian state. This is a war about destroying Israel and killing Jews.”

He argued that Israel should reject further concessions and project strength until its enemies accept that the Jewish state cannot be destroyed and the decades of calls for a Palestinian state are a proven failure.

“They had it; they controlled it,” Klein said. “They could have just said a new country of Palestine has now emerged. No, because the goal is not that. The goal is Israel’s destruction.”

“Only when they understand that, that it’s hopeless for them to destroy the Jewish state of Israel, only then might they finally lay down their arms and say, we give up.”
