沙特阿美近也门一炼油厂起火 原因不明但火势已灭

Former President Joe Biden’s prostate cancer has spread to other parts of his body and is causing him pain, even as he continues to speak out on public issues, his son Hunter Biden said in an interview.

In a wide-ranging interview with the CBS News partner BBC News late on Friday, Hunter Biden grew emotional as he discussed his father’s condition, describing it as very sad to watch.

“The cancer has spread, metastasized into his bones and further,” he said. “It’s very painful and it’s very debilitating in many respects.”

Joe Biden, 83, was the oldest man to serve as U.S. president and his age was a source of concern for much of his four years in office. He and his White House advisers have faced intense criticism for allegedly concealing the extent of his problems, especially after he was forced to abandon his bid for reelection after a disastrous debate with his eventual successor, President Trump.

The former president revealed his cancer diagnosis in May of last year, less than four months after he left the White House.

At the time, his office said that his cancer was diagnosed with a Gleason score of 9, which placed him in Grade Group 5, the most severe category.

Last September, the former president also underwent surgery for skin cancer in a procedure that involves cutting away thin layers of skin until only cancer-free tissue remains in the treated area. And last October, he underwent a round of radiation therapy for his prostate cancer, his office said.

In an interview with CBS News in May, former first lady Jill Biden said it was a shock when the family learned of the diagnosis.

“Honestly, I can remember getting the diagnosis, and it was just shocking,” she said.

She also indicated that the cancer was not discovered while he was serving in the White House.

“Well, you know the doctors said that, according to the American Urological Association, that men over 70 don’t need a PSA, a blood test, anymore because it’s a slow-growing cancer … I do feel we had amazing care in the White House, but somehow that was missed,” she said at the time.

Hunter Biden said the diagnosis had been tough on the family.

“It’s really sad to watch,” Hunter Biden said. “The only thing that I’d say about my dad, about his health right now, is I wish he would complain more, because it’s not good.”

But Hunter Biden said his father remains “out there,” speaking publicly about the issues that are important to him.

“He’s still doing his thing,” he said. “He so believes in this country.”

The former president will publish a memoir, “Promise Me, America,” after the midterm elections.

Costa Rica’s recently discovered “coffee frogs” sing in plantations, but pesticides threaten them

A tiny greenish, nocturnal frog that thrives in coffee plantations was discovered in Costa Rica’s central Pacific region, where it also faces risks from agrochemicals used in farming.

Measuring less than 4 centimeters and known as the “spring frog,” AFP reporters observed the dark green-spotted amphibians in San Lorenzo de Tarrazu.

“It’s a new species of tree frog for science and endemic to Costa Rica,” researcher Wagner Chaves-Acuna told AFP, per the findings of colleagues from the University of Costa Rica and Argentina’s National Council for Scientific and Technical Research.

The tiny frog was first observed in the 1960s, but it was incorrectly identified as another species, according to Costa Rica’s National Alliance for the Conservation of Amphibians and Reptiles (ANCAR). It was rediscovered and confirmed in 2021 through genetic and morphological studies, the organization said.

Also nicknamed the “coffee frog,” the species has another distinctive trait: males have a translucent throat that inflates with their short, high-pitched call.

“At night, when they are most active, you can hear them singing and perched on coffee shrubs,” Chaves-Acuna said.

Generally, frogs seek out shade, moisture and food in the crops — but they are not after the coffee berries, feeding instead on the small insects in the habitat.

Chaves-Acuna warns that pesticide use on coffee plantations could potentially pose a risk to these tiny amphibians.

“These poisons travel through the air … they seep through the soil and that’s where they enter the aquatic systems where the tadpoles develop,” Chaves-Acuna said.

The species also faces other threats, including waste dumping, increased tourism and the loss of vegetation due to the invasion of protected areas, according to ANCAR.

Alabama sheriff’s deputies and police wrangled a 1,500-pound runaway bull Friday in a foot pursuit across the highway in Pickens County.

Video shows the bull calmly walking in a suburban neighborhood, while additional footage shows three authorities mounted on horses swinging lassos above their heads trying to rein in the animal.

The bull ran away as the ropes got closer.

The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office said after “a few slips and falls,” the “oversized escape artist” was back in custody without any injury.

The deputies said after containing the bull, they were better off “patrolling the county” than trying to “make a living on the rodeo circuit.”

“We’ll hang our cowboy hats and boots back on the wall at least until the next bull decides to go sightseeing,” the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office said.

WASHINGTON, Aug 8 (Reuters) – U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune moved on Saturday to advance a major bill that would create a regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies which, if passed, would ​mark a huge victory for U.S. President Donald Trump and the crypto ‌industry.

Thune, a Republican, early Saturday morning filed to set up a key procedural vote on the Clarity Act when the Senate returns from its August recess in mid-September, potentially paving the way for a full floor vote ​on the bill, according to the U.S. Senate Press Gallery website.

The move suggests ​Senate Republican leaders believe they may yet be able to wrangle the ⁠60 votes needed for the bill to pass, despite continued opposition by many ​Democrats. The legislation would give the crypto industry its first comprehensive federal rulebook, defining when digital tokens are securities or commodities and which regulators oversee them. Crypto companies say the act ​is necessary to provide legal clarity for the industry and could potentially boost the adoption ​of cryptocurrencies.

The passage of the Clarity Act would also hand Trump a second major crypto policy win after ‌he ⁠signed a bill supporting dollar-backed tokens known as stablecoins into law last year, even as Democrats say his family’s own crypto profits create a conflict of interest.

The crypto industry spent more than $119 million backing pro-crypto candidates in the 2024 election hoping to advance the Clarity ​Act and stablecoin law.

Passage ​of the bill would ⁠be a blow for banks, which have fought to limit language that would allow crypto companies to effectively compete for bank ​deposits by offering rewards on customer stablecoin holdings.

Trump, who courted crypto cash ​on the ⁠campaign trail and whose family has profited from its own token, has prioritized crypto reform during his second administration and the White House has also been pushing hard for the bill, Reuters reported.

Jorge Messi, father of Argentina soccer great Lionel Messi, dies at 68

Jorge Messi, the father and longtime agent of soccer great Lionel Messi, has died. He was 68 years old.

The death was confirmed by CONMEBOL, the South American football federation, the Argentina National Football Team and in a statement from the family provided to Reuters.

“CONMEBOL deeply regrets the passing of Jorge Messi, father of Argentine footballer Lionel Messi,” the federation said in a statement translated from Spanish on social media. “We accompany Lionel, his family, friends, and loved ones with respect and affection in this moment of profound grief. May he rest in peace.”

The Argentina National Football Team said in a brief statement on social media, “Sending our deepest strength to Leo Messi and his family. We’re with you during this difficult time and sending you our warmest embrace.”

Lionel Messi and Argentina finished second in this year’s World Cup after the soccer great led his home country to the world title in 2022. Jorge Messi was seen on the field with his son after reaching the sport’s mountaintop.

“Jorge was the pillar of strength and the person who, along with his wife, Celia Cuccittini, supported the career of the greatest player of all time with vision, rigor, and affection,” Newell’s Old Boys, the first club where Lionel Messi played in Argentina, said in a statement on Jorge Messi’s death. “His constant support and behind-the-scenes leadership were fundamental in backing every step of Lionel’s journey, from his beginnings in the Falklands to the pinnacle of world football glory.

“Thank you for teaching him to love these colors,” the statement concluded.

Jorge Messi took his son to Barcelona for his first tryout with the Spanish super club in 2000 and then moved to Spain with him when he was signed by the club soon thereafter.

Lionel Messi made his debut with Barcelona at just 16 years old. His father became his agent and saw him through deals with Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and his current club, MLS team Inter Miami.

Lionel Messi was visibly emotional after scoring a hat trick in Argentina’s first game of this year’s World Cup against Algeria. In a press conference after the match, he said the reason for crying on the pitch was “something unrelated to football,” but he did not further elaborate.

Messi’s family then released a statement on Jorge, saying he was “going through a health-related situation” and “under medical care, recovering and evolving favorably, given the condition he is experiencing.”

The family also criticized the “rumors and speculations” around Jorge Messi’s health and called it a private matter.

Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami squad was scheduled to play Monterrey in the Leagues Cup on Saturday night. It was unclear if he would play after the announcement of his father’s death.

Drones spotted flying over German military base 2 days after device with explosives found at cargo airport

Two drones were spotted flying over a German military base earlier this week, just two days after a drone carrying explosives was found at a cargo airport, the German Armed Forces said on Saturday.

Security surveillance at the Bundeswehr base in Mechernich reported seeing two drones around 10 p.m. on Thursday, according to a statement from the German Joint Force Command. The sightings were confirmed and military police forces deployed to the site.

The military said the Euskirchen police department has opened an investigation. The police did not immediately respond to a request for comment and the military did not release additional details.

Recently, drone sightings over civilian and cargo airports have been reported more frequently. Last year, mysterious drone flights over the airspace of European Union member countries alarmed the public and authorities and also prompted the cancellation of dozens of flights that stranded thousands of passengers.

The drone with explosives was found at Germany’s Leipzig/Halle Airport – a major hub for international freight – shortly before midnight on Tuesday. While the device was defused, its discovery earlier is assessed by the U.S. to be of Russian origin, officials told CBS News.

The airport is home to NATO’s Strategic Airlift International Solution, or SALIS, which is currently operational almost every day in delivering equipment to NATO battle groups along its eastern flank from Finland to Romania and supporting EU and alliance nation missions.

The recent incidents come as American intelligence assessments indicate Russian President Vladimir Putin could be increasingly willing to authorize provocative actions that could extend onto NATO territory, U.S. officials briefed on the matter told CBS News.

Western officials have accused Russia and its proxies of staging dozens of attacks and other incidents – including Russian drone incursions into Romania and a broader uptick in suspected sabotage and cyber operations across Europe since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine more than four years ago.

The Russian Embassy in Germany on Friday called the Leipzig drone incident part of a “new wave of anti-Russian hysteria in Germany.”

Hawaii voters will decide Saturday who advances to the November general election, with key contests including the race for governor and the battle to represent the state’s 1st Congressional District.

Gov. Josh Green, who was first elected in 2022, is heavily favored to win the Democratic primary, where he faces three little-known competitors. His challengers include George “Teva” Lucas-Tadeo, a Democratic socialist who has promised on social media to open a government-run grocery store and legalize recreational marijuana.

David “Duke” Bourgoin is mounting his second primary challenge against Green after losing to him in 2022, when he captured only 590 votes against Green’s 158,161. He also lost two bids for Honolulu mayor, in 2022 and 2024.

Neither Lucas-Tadeo nor Shim had campaign websites, and none of Green’s three challengers had raised any money in the race as of June 30, according to Honolulu Civil Beat. Meanwhile, Green has raised approximately $3.5 million, far outpacing Republican Gary Cordery, the race’s second-highest fundraiser, who has raised about $313,000, according to Honolulu Civil Beat.

Cordery, owner of the contracting company Kingdom Builders, and Ken Fujiyama, an entrepreneur and investor, are competing for the Republican nomination and a chance to end nearly two decades of Democratic control of the governor’s mansion. The last Republican to serve as Hawaii governor was Linda Lingle, who held the office from 2002 to 2010.

Cordery has campaigned on lowering Hawaii’s high cost of living, expanding housing and cracking down on government waste and corruption. He has proposed adding 15,000 homes for working families, using state-owned land for housing and eliminating the state’s general excise tax on food and medicine. Fujiyama has also proposed a plan to tackle the housing affordability crisis by developing 100,000 residential lots and partnering with large landowners to spur growth.

Meanwhile, eyes outside of Hawaii will be locked on the Democratic primary in the 1st Congressional District, where state Sen. Jarrett Keohokalole is challenging Rep. Ed Case, D-Hawaii.

Case, who is seeking a seventh term, has represented the district since 2019 and argues that his seniority and position on the Appropriations Committee give Hawaii greater influence in Washington. Meanwhile, Keohokalole, who is endorsed by Sen. Bernie Sanders’ group Our Revolution, is running on a progressive platform that includes Medicare for All and opposition to ICE and President Donald Trump’s tariffs.

Keohokalole is seeking to portray Case as out of touch with Democratic voters, pointing to the congressman’s vote with House Republicans to pass Trump’s SAVE America Act, which would require voters to show proof of citizenship when registering to vote.

据报道，国防部申请的预算金额是根据2022年通过的《防卫力整备计划》计算得出。这份文件将2023至2027财年的国防开支定为43万亿日元。

预算的主要支出包括大量采购价格低于防空导弹的无人机，尤其是引入拦截无人机，以应对自爆型无人机等“新型作战方式”。当局的目标是结合高功率激光和微波技术的研发，构建更强的防空网。

新预算的另一个重点是善用人工智能（AI）辅助自卫队的指挥与决策。这包括建设能够存储大量机密信息的云平台、用AI分析庞大数据，从而加速军情分析，提升指挥与决策效率。

部署长射程导弹，包括射程约1000公里的25式陆基反舰导弹，以加强反击敌方基地的能力也被列入预算中。

据初步预算申请，日本国防部也将增设一些新机构，包括管辖与他国防务合作的“国际政策局”，并且考虑建立专责机构以促进防卫装备出口、推动有关生产线国有化等。

为解决兵源问题，当局也计划在2027年设新机构，专门照顾退役军人及家属的福祉，为退役人员提供职业发展支持。此举旨在提升自卫队的社会地位，吸引新兵。

即将修订的“安保三文件”涉及日本现有军事方针以及军备采购，原定明年修订，但首相高市早苗去年10月上台后宣布提前进行。她当时解释，安全环境已变化，日本必须做出调整，包括采纳新的作战方式，从根本上加强国防力量。

日本的国防开支在2022年约5.4万亿日元，之后每年平均增长约1万亿日元。今年4月通过的2026年度预算，包括驻日美军整编相关经费等，约为9万亿日元。

日本长期遵守防务开支不得超过国内生产总值（GDP）1%。2022年底通过的安保三文件则列明要在2027财年实现防卫开支占GDP的2%。《朝日新闻》指出，若加上追加预算，2025年的国防开支已达11万亿日元，提早两年达标。
