SpaceX set to release its first earnings report as a public company. Here’s what to look for.

SpaceX is set to issue its first earnings report as a public company on Tuesday, offering a detailed look at how the rocket, satellite and AI provider is faring after its ballyhooed initial public offering in June.

SpaceX shares have sputtered after initially soaring following the transaction, the largest IPO in U.S. history. The company’s stock price hovered around $110 on Monday, roughly 19% below the $135 per share offer price and 51% below the intraday high of $225.64 on June 16.

SpaceX is scheduled to release its financial results on Tuesday after financial markets close, followed by a call with market analysts.

“Wall Street analysts will focus on the hard numbers, but retail investors will be influenced by some of the sound bites” during the earnings call, Jay Ritter, an IPO expert and professor at the University of Florida’s Warrington College of Business, told CBS News in an email.

Here are three things to watch for when SpaceX releases its first earnings report.

Is revenue growth strong?

Investors will look at the pace of SpaceX’s revenue growth. The company booked $18.7 billion in revenue last year, but suffered a net loss of more than $4.9 billion, according to a regulatory filing.

Melissa Otto, head of Visible Alpha research at S&P Global, expects the company to report $6.9 billion in revenue in the second quarter, driven by its Starlink broadband satellite network. Gains from the connectivity business will help offset operating losses in the company’s space exploration and AI segments, she said in an analysis.

Analysts will focus in particular on Starlink’s subscriber growth and revenue. Nicolas Owens, an equity analyst at Morningstar covering SpaceX, expects subscriber growth of 93% in 2026, compared with 229% in 2025.

Is the AI business on the right track?

Another major question is whether SpaceX’s massive investment in artificial intelligence shows signs of paying off. In other words, can its AI business start to generate the revenue necessary to justify the company’s $1.4 trillion valuation?

In the first three months of 2026, SpaceX’s AI segment had revenue of $818 million, according to a securities filing. The division is focused on scaling AI compute infrastructure by sending data centers to space and enhancing the performance of Grok, the AI chatbot developed by xAI that SpaceX bought in February,

Investors will also assess SpaceX’s quarterly AI revenue for clues on how fast the business could grow. That includes plans for Cursor, the AI coding startup that SpaceX recently acquired, and how it figures into the future of Grok, Ritter said.

“If SpaceX can grow this part of its business, it could be an important source of revenue in the next few years, along with Starlink and terrestrial data centers,” he said in an email.

Can the stock regain momentum?

SpaceX’s first earnings report could affect its short-term stock price, which has slumped in part due to investor concerns about the company’s AI investment.

While investors will undoubtedly pay attention to the numbers in the earnings report, Dan Ives, partner and senior managing director at Yorkville Ives & Co., said sentiment will largely hinge on the tone and vision set by Elon Musk, the founder of SpaceX, on the earnings call.

“Investors are betting much more in the future, and [SpaceX needs] to give them near-term [targets] that they can hit to show the success, because the stock is based on the longer-term vision,” he told CBS News.

Another key test for the stock will come on Thursday, when more than 911 million SpaceX shares worth roughly $100 billion will be released as the lockup period ends.

Short sellers have already made more than $8 billion betting against Elon Musk’s rocket company, driving the stock price down, according to Ritter. However, some investors are expected to shift into buying mode when the lockup period expires, reducing volatility in the shares.

“Some of them will become buyers this week, soaking up shares that existing shareholders will be allowed to sell,” he said. “This short covering will reduce the drop that otherwise will be occurring on Thursday.”

Trump blasts Jeanine Pirro, says she ‘choked’ in dropping reflecting pool case

WASHINGTON, Aug 3 (Reuters) – President Donald Trump sharply criticized U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro on Monday for dropping ​a case of alleged vandalism at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting ‌Pool in Washington, saying she had “choked” under pressure from a judge and “folded like an umbrella.”

“Instead of going after the people that did it, the judge went ​after her and went after her department, and I guess ​she choked. I don’t know what the hell happened,” ⁠Trump told reporters.

Pirro’s office said in a court filing on Friday that ​the damage resulted from shoddy construction, not vandalism, and moved to drop ​charges against former Olympian David Hearn, who was accused of deliberately damaging the newly renovated pool ahead of the nation’s 250th birthday celebration last month.

Trump claimed ​surveillance footage showed people cutting newly installed waterproofing material around the ​pool and argued that Pirro, a close political ally, should have continued pursuing the ‌case.

“Pirro ⁠made a mistake. It was vandalism,” Trump said, adding he was “really disappointed” in Pirro and that “she folded like an umbrella.”

Pirro, a former Fox News host and longtime Trump ally, is the top federal prosecutor ​in Washington. Trump ​did not say ⁠whether he had spoken directly with her before publicly rebuking her and did not answer when asked if he ​was reconsidering her role.

Pirro’s office and the White House ​office did ⁠not immediately respond to a request seeking comment.

The reflecting pool renovation is among several projects Trump has pursued across Washington. He has ⁠demolished the ​White House East Wing to make ​way for a $400 million ballroom and proposed a large arch between the Lincoln Memorial and ​Arlington National Cemetery.

The major holes in Todd Blanche’s concessions to Cornyn and Tillis

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche appears to have satisfied the demands of Sens. John Cornyn and Thom Tillis, at least enough to advance his nomination as full attorney general.

Blanche late Sunday issued a written document that purports to rescind President Donald Trump’s highly controversial “anti-weaponization” fund and limit the tax immunity that Trump’s own government gave him in the same settlement.

But the assurances aren’t exactly iron-clad.

And even after this standoff, Trump still maintains a massive personal financial benefit from the legally dubious settlement — one Cornyn and Tillis apparently haven’t objected to.

First, the news: Late Sunday, Blanche posted a pair of documents meant to satisfy Cornyn’s and Tillis’ concerns. (Either senator could have blocked his nomination in the Senate Judiciary Committee by voting no, given Republicans have just a one-seat majority on the panel.)

Cornyn and Tillis responded Monday morning by issuing a joint statement saying they “look forward to voting to advance his nomination out of the Senate Judiciary Committee soon.” The committee vote is expected Tuesday.

One document states that Blanche’s May 18 order creating the “anti-weaponization” fund, which the administration has said could be used to pay defendants convicted in the January 6 Capitol attack, is “rescinded and shall have no force or effect.”

The other purports to clarify Blanche’s order giving Trump immunity for tax issues, saying it applies only to past tax issues and only to the “named parties in the lawsuit” — i.e. Trump, his sons and the Trump Organization. Cornyn had said he wanted that portion of the settlement to be narrowed.

But both of these apparent concessions feature clear loopholes.

The problem with Blanche rescinding the “anti-weaponization” fund order is that it wouldn’t seem to necessarily fully kill off the fund.

As the National Review’s Andrew McCarthy has explained, the settlement’s terms (see our annotation here) state that it could be “modified only with the written agreement of the parties.” That would include Trump.

So while Blanche has rescinded a separate order he wrote that actually created the fund under the terms of the settlement, the settlement itself still exists — and could seemingly be enforced.

In fact, Cornyn and Blanche basically explained all of this during an exchange at Blanche’s confirmation hearing in mid-July, before they agreed to greenlight his nomination.

When he started pressing Blanche, Cornyn asked whether the settlement agreement had been modified by the parties, including Trump. (It hadn’t, Blanche said.) Under Cornyn’s questioning, Blanche admitted that even if he verbally promised to fully kill off the fund, the settlement remained an “enforceable document,” and Trump could file a lawsuit seeking to enforce its terms.

“There’s no guarantee that he or one of the other plaintiffs might [not] raise that issue by way of a lawsuit and — a breach of contract lawsuit in the future,” Cornyn said.

Blanche claimed that, because the fund would have been ended, “the results of such litigation, whatever it would be, wouldn’t be a revival of the fund.” And Cornyn dropped the issue.

But McCarthy wrote that that’s not the full story.

“Absent such a modification agreement, however, the Anti-Weaponization Fund is still viable and could be revived at any time, despite Blanche’s insistence to the contrary,” McCarthy said.

And even some supporters of the anti-weaponization fund suggested Blanche’s document could just be rendered moot.

“Can be undone after Tuesday,” Republican lawyer Mike Howell, who applied to serve on the “anti-weaponization” fund’s board, wrote on X late Sunday. “The Anti-Weaponization Fund is great.”

Blanche and his allies could argue that the new document would make it politically impossible to revive the fund — because it would look so bad and could draw lawmakers to pass legislation killing it off. But there are no guarantees.

While Blanche wrote that the IRS immunity deal was limited to the parties to the lawsuit — seemingly Trump, his sons and the Trump Organization — it’s not clear how solid that is, either.

The second document says that Blanche “restates that it is DOJ’s interpretation that the Order only has any effect” for the parties to the lawsuit. In other words, they’re casting this as a clarification rather than a modification.

But the original document sounds like it applies more broadly than just to Trump, his sons and the Trump Organization.

It says the federal government will be “FOREVER BARRED and PRECLUDED from prosecuting or pursuing any and all claims … that … have been or could have been asserted by Defendants against any of the Plaintiffs or related or affiliated individuals (including, without limitation, family or others filing jointly), or parties including trusts, parent, sister, or related companies, affiliates, and subsidiaries …”

It’s difficult to square that with how limited Blanche says the immunity deal actually is. And this document, unlike the one pertaining to the anti-weaponization fund, wasn’t signed by Blanche. So again, the issue is whether Blanche’s new document actually changes anything, legally speaking.

Cornyn and Tillis in their statement Monday morning claimed Blanche’s new document was a “binding written order.”

But even if the narrower scope is operable, the updated terms would still allow Trump a major potential financial benefit.

The New York Times has written that giving Trump personal immunity from past tax issues could spare him a $100 million tax penalty.

What’s more, he will have earned this benefit in a highly dubious manner. This immunity will have come from a lawsuit and settlement that a judge has said amounted to an effort to “manipulate the judicial process.” This is because Trump earned the settlement by suing a federal government that he personally exercises control over.

In other words, even if the “anti-weaponization” fund is fully dead and the IRS immunity has actually been narrowed, legally speaking, Trump still comes out of all of this with a major personal win.

It’s still subject to court battles that could invalidate Trump’s immunity. But Cornyn, Tillis and the Republicans who are going to vote to confirm Blanche have apparently greenlit a potential major financial windfall for Trump — a man who has already reaped huge financial rewards from the presidency, rather shamelessly.

So, yes, Blanche ultimately gave in somewhat. The whole thing surely makes it more difficult to revive the “anti-weaponization” fund, at least politically.

But it’s not a case of GOP senators holding a hard line against Trump and getting iron-clad concessions that leave him empty-handed. Far from it.

“It’s not a big ask,” Cornyn said last week of his demands.

Indeed.

JPMorgan Chase to invest $750 billion in increasing the U.S. housing supply and homeownership

JPMorgan Chase said on Monday it will invest $750 billion through 2035 to boost the U.S. housing supply, including financing for 1 million affordable housing units and assisting 500,000 people in buying homes.

The investment is part of JPMorgan Chase’s American Dream Initiative, announced in March to boost economic mobility at a time when many Americans say traditional financial milestones are slipping further out of reach. The investment represents a 40% increase in the bank’s housing capital deployment compared to the previous 10 years, the company said in a statement.

The effort is rolling out as housing costs continue to march higher, pricing homes beyond the reach of many Americans. The median price of existing homes in June reached a record $440,660, marking 36 straight months of higher property prices.

“An affordable and resilient housing market is essential to driving economic growth and increasing opportunity,” Michelle Herrick, head, commercial real estate for JPMorgan, said in the statement.

A majority of Americans surveyed by CBS News earlier this year said it’s harder to reach goals like buying a home or raising a family than it was for past generations. Homeownership is considered a key pathway to building wealth, yet fewer than four in 10 non-homeowner households can afford a typical starter home, according to LendingTree.

JPMorgan said its efforts to expand the nation’s housing supply will focus on collaborating with states and local communities to streamline zoning and building codes, as well as to expand tax credits and private-public partnerships.

The banking giant plans to assist 500,000 customers, including 200,000 first-time homebuyers, in buying homes by increasing JPMorgan’s mortgage lending by more than 40%. The bank plans to accomplish that partly by adding 850 new home-lending advisers and by developing new loan products for modular and manufactured homes.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian called Hamas’ newly elected leader to congratulate him and pledge Tehran’s continued support for the group’s cause, Hamas said Monday — as President Donald Trump promotes a landmark agreement intended to strip the terrorist organization of its weapons and power in Gaza.

Pezeshkian congratulated Khalil al-Hayya on his election as head of the group’s political bureau and told him Iran would continue supporting the Palestinian cause, according to a Hamas statement posted in Arabic, and reviewed by Fox News Digital.

“We are with you, and we support you in every action you take, despite the attacks we are facing,” Pezeshkian said, according to Hamas’ account of the call.

Fox News Digital has asked Iran’s mission to the United Nations to confirm that the call took place and provide an official readout.

The reported conversation highlighted a central contradiction confronting Trump’s Gaza initiative: While the White House is presenting the roadmap as a landmark agreement to remove Hamas from power and secure its weapons, Iran — the group’s longtime military and financial patron — was simultaneously reaffirming its support for Hamas and its new leader. Tehran’s backing raises fresh questions about whether Hamas is prepared to surrender the arsenal at the core of its power and how the Board of Peace could enforce disarmament against a group that continues to receive political support from one of Washington’s principal regional adversaries.

Trump in recent days announced what he called a “HISTORIC agreement for the COMPLETE DISARMAMENT of Hamas and all other armed groups,” presenting it as a breakthrough after nearly three years of war. The stakes extend far beyond the wording of the deal: Hamas’ weapons remain the central obstacle to rebuilding Gaza, and the agreement will test whether Trump’s Board of Peace can enforce a postwar transition or whether Hamas will exploit the process to survive, regroup and retain power.

At the center of the effort is Trump’s Board of Peace, the president’s handpicked vehicle for implementing his Gaza policy and potentially extending his approach to other global conflicts. Trump chairs the board, whose executive leadership includes Secretary of State Marco Rubio, special envoy Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

The White House says the board will oversee Gaza’s transition, mobilize reconstruction funding and hold the parties accountable.

But the tensions intensified Monday also on the Israeli side, when Nickolay Mladenov, Board of Peace director-general and high representative for Gaza, and board advisor Aryeh Lightstone met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and urged Israel to halt its attacks in Gaza.

Israel appeared to reject the board’s two central demands shortly afterward.

“Israel will not withdraw from its current line in the Gaza Strip and will continue to thwart any threat to our civilians and soldiers,” an Israeli political official said. The statement amounted to a rejection, at least for now, of demands that Israel return to the “yellow line” and halt targeted strikes in Gaza.

A Board of Peace official declined to discuss the meeting but said the body remained focused on carrying out the roadmap.

“We are focused on implementation,” the official told Fox News Digital. “We have provided a pragmatic path forward to transform Gaza by removing Hamas from power and seeing it hand over its weapons. These steps would undoubtedly allow for the improvement of life in Gaza and enhancement of security in Israel. We remain determined to advance these objectives.”

Meanwhile, the Hamas terrorist group says it has agreed only to a phased and conditional process involving the storage of weapons after Israel stops its attacks, withdraws its forces and allows more aid into Gaza. Hamas has avoided the word “disarmament” in its statements and insists its weapons would remain under Palestinian control rather than being surrendered to Israel or an international force.

HAMAS AGREES TO COMPLETE DISARMAMENT UNDER ‘HISTORIC’ GAZA AGREEMENT: TRUMP

The board’s 15-point roadmap calls for Hamas to transfer Gaza’s civilian government and security responsibilities to a Palestinian technocratic body known as the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza. Hamas-run police would surrender their weapons to the committee, while heavy weapons, military production sites, weapons depots and tunnels would be addressed later through a phased decommissioning process linked to an Israeli withdrawal.

The intended endpoint is that only the new Palestinian authority would possess or control weapons in Gaza. But the roadmap leaves unresolved who will enforce the process, what constitutes compliance and which side must act first.

Hamas’ disarmament remains a central obstacle to rebuilding Gaza. Trump has tied reconstruction to the group laying down its weapons, while The Associated Press reported that the Board of Peace had secured approximately $7 billion in pledges by February — a fraction of the estimated $70 billion needed to rebuild the devastated territory.

Moumen al-Natour, a Palestinian lawyer from Gaza and co-founder of the anti-Hamas “We Want to Live” movement, said civilians desperately want the agreement to succeed but do not trust Hamas to relinquish power.

“Civilian people inside Gaza Strip… want safety, want to stop this war, want a new government, want to be alive,” al-Natour told Fox News Digital.

But al-Natour, who previously was imprisoned by Hamas, warned that the group would use delays and violations to remain embedded in Gaza.

“I can’t trust Hamas because I know Hamas,” he said, arguing that the group had repeatedly arrested and killed Palestinians who opposed its rule. He said an international force of only a few hundred personnel would be unable to secure Gaza or prevent Hamas from intimidating residents and that a much larger force and a new Palestinian police structure would be required.

Drawing on a grassroots network of thousands of Gazan professionals who reject Hamas’ ideology, the “We Want to Live” movement is promoting its own plan to rebuild Gaza’s civil society and is calling for cooperation with the Board of Peace and the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, the technocratic body tasked under the U.S.-backed transition plan with governing and rebuilding the enclave.

Al-Natour also proposed allowing civilians who want to escape Hamas-controlled areas to move into protected zones near the “yellow line” — the boundary separating Israeli-held territory from the rest of Gaza — where they could live under a new Palestinian administration backed by an international security force. He said the arrangement could provide Gazans with a safer alternative while a post-Hamas governing structure is established.

Michael Milstein, a former military intelligence officer in Israel and now head of the Palestinian Studies Centre at Tel Aviv University, said the compromise has been developing for months under pressure from Qatar, Turkey and Egypt.

Milstein said Hamas may be prepared to give up control of Gaza’s day-to-day government and accept restrictions on heavy weapons but is unlikely to abandon its armed organization completely.

Under the model Hamas appears to favor, Milstein said, a technocratic government and international forces would assume responsibility for public services and reconstruction while Hamas preserves its personnel, infrastructure and political influence — an arrangement resembling Hezbollah’s longtime position in Lebanon.

“There is a very, very low chance that Hamas will completely disarm,” Milstein told Fox News Digital, describing the roadmap as the kind of “gray area” Hamas has historically used to its advantage.

The Board of Peace also is pressing for an end to actions that could derail the plan. After Israeli strikes killed civilians and reportedly destroyed medical supplies over the weekend, Mladenov, the director-general of the Board of Peace, called for de-escalation but did not identify Israel by name.

“Two days of strikes across Gaza have killed civilians and destroyed medical supplies,” Mladenov wrote on X, adding that he was working with the parties and regional mediators to “create the space for the full implementation of the President’s plan.”

Israel, meanwhile, says it will not withdraw before Hamas genuinely disarms. Hamas says Israel must withdraw first.

The roadmap also faces resistance inside Israel’s government. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and Settlements Minister Orit Strock urged Netanyahu on Monday to convene the security Cabinet immediately and block the international stabilization force from entering Gaza, according to Israel’s N12 news outlet.

In an urgent letter reported by N12 on Aug. 3, 2026, the ministers called the Board of Peace roadmap “dangerous to Israel” and argued that it contradicts Israel’s stated goals of disarming Hamas and demilitarizing Gaza. They objected that weapons would be placed under the authority of a new Palestinian body rather than removed from Gaza or handed to Israel and that Israeli troops would begin withdrawing while the disarmament process was still underway.

The far-right ministers also argued that the international force would monitor the separation between Israeli troops and the new Palestinian administration rather than directly disarm Hamas. They demanded that Netanyahu prevent implementation until the roadmap is revised to require full demilitarization before an Israeli withdrawal. The letter underscores that the plan’s obstacles extend beyond Hamas: Influential members of Netanyahu’s coalition are also challenging its sequencing, enforcement and security provisions.

That leaves Trump’s proclaimed milestone resting on the same question that has stalled previous Gaza negotiations: whether Hamas is truly preparing to surrender the weapons that underpin its power — or merely buying time to ensure that it remains standing when the rebuilding begins.

When investigators in the Arizona disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of “Today” show co-host Savannah Guthrie, released two ransom notes Friday, one of the messages directly contradicted what Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told CBS News in an interview one day earlier.

“I have nothing to indicate she’s dead,” Nanos said Thursday. “I don’t have a body. I don’t have a burial site. I don’t have any note.”

But he did have a note. On Friday, Nanos released the two notes to the public for the first time. The messages had originally been sent to the local CBS station in Tucson in February, shortly after the 84-year-old’s abduction.

Nanos said he released the ransom notes hoping someone would recognize the author’s potentially distinctive wording and help identify who sent them.

The first, submitted a day after Guthrie was reported missing, opened with “Hello Savannah, we have your mother,” demanded a $4 million ransom be paid in bitcoin, and promised to return her to a “safe drop off location” in Tucson within 12 hours of the ransom’s deposit.

The second note, sent just four days later, says, “We never intended to hurt her, that was not our intention. She perished shortly after she was taken. We believe it was heart related. She is buried in nature now.”

The first note included details about Nancy Guthrie’s white Apple Watch and the floodlights on her back porch, leading the FBI to take them seriously.

Both notes were sent via a tip line to CBS affiliate KOLD-TV using email addresses that appeared to be made up and used references to the Guthrie family.

CBS News has previously reported that investigators believed both notes were sent from the same IP address. That address was masked and investigators don’t know whose computer it was sent from.

Lance Leising, a retired FBI supervisory special agent, told CBS News that releasing the notes to drive more tips from the public was a great thing to do.

“However, so late in the case and after a period of time where they have had no communication with the public, it just seems that the media strategy here is a little haphazard,” Leising said.

Leising said the months-delayed release could be due to questions of authenticity.

“I’m sure, and maybe even to this day, they’re not 100% sure if these notes are legitimate,” Leising said. “I mean, they’ve already arrested and charged people for sending hoax and fake notes in.”

Jason Pack, another retired FBI supervisory special agent, noted that the second message dropped the ransom demand.

“The money is simply gone,” Pack told CBS News on Friday. “No demand. No offer to sell a location. Nothing. People motivated by money do not walk away from $4 million when the plan falls apart. They try to salvage something. This writer asked for nothing at all.”

Pack believes one person wrote both notes.

“Same channel, same habits, same distance from responsibility,” he said. “Whether that person took Nancy or watched the coverage and decided to insert himself is the open question.”

When CBS News asked Nanos about the messages, he said, “Those hostage notes: Are they valid, do we believe they’re valid? We think every one of them’s valid until we show otherwise.”

In an Instagram post Saturday marking six months since her mother’s disappearance, Savannah Guthrie again urged “someone to come forward,” including anyone who might recognize the writing in the ransom notes. She said, “There is a way to end this situation and do the right thing.”

Following a lengthy, and at times unflattering, account in the Wall Street Journal over the weekend of how local investigators handled the Guthrie investigation, Nanos took to social mediahttps://youtu.be/38wFJpHrfQQ?si=bSWy1u4XIXD_UdRZ to address the Guthrie family and concerned citizens.

“We’re still here, we’re not going away,” Nanos said. “If you could just see the team working, you would see the energy, the concern. They’re fired up, and we’ll continue to work this case hard.”

Nanos said he has no doubt the case will be solved.

As the search for Nancy Guthrie continues, the FBI is offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to her location or the arrest of anyone involved in her disappearance, and the Guthrie family has offered a reward of $1 million.

NEW YORK, Aug 3 (Reuters) – A group ​of 25 Democratic-led U.S. states sued President Donald Trump’s administration on Monday, arguing that the president’s latest round of ‌tariffs on goods from 60 trading partners, like most of his earlier sweeping tariffs, exceeds his legal authority to tax imports.

The states’ lawsuit filed in the U.S. Court of International Trade in New York follows previous challenges by small U.S. businesses, which sued to block the tariffs on the ​day they went into effect last month. States and small businesses have successfully challenged previous global tariffs imposed by Trump in ​his second term, but the president has continued to pursue new tariffs despite a series of ⁠legal setbacks.

The Trump administration on July 24 imposed new tariffs of 10% and 12.5% on 60 trading partners, including the European Union, ​over allegations that they were not doing enough to stop the export of goods produced with forced labor. The tariffs went into effect ​just as a previous 10% global tariff expired.

The states that sued, including Oregon and New York, all have Democratic attorneys general or governors.

“Despite losing every step of the way, Trump is trying yet again to inflict more chaos on working families and homegrown Oregon businesses,” Oregon’s Attorney General ​Dan Rayfield said in a statement.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Trump has made ​tariffs a central pillar of his foreign policy, even after a stinging defeat in the U.S. Supreme Court. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled against most ‌of Trump’s ⁠widest-ranging tariffs on February 20, finding that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) does not authorize the president to unilaterally impose tariffs on trading partners.

Trump responded to that ruling by escalating his trade war, calling Supreme Court justices disloyal and issuing new temporary 10% tariffs under a different legal authority that, like IEEPA, no president had previously used to impose tariffs. Those tariffs were also ruled illegal by the ​U.S. Court of International Trade, ​but they remained in effect ⁠while the Trump administration appealed.

The latest round of global tariffs was imposed under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974, which is meant to combat unfair or discriminatory economic practices by ​other nations. The tariffs imposed in July affect over 99% of U.S. imports.

Unlike IEEPA or ​the temporary global ⁠tariff authority, Section 301 has been used by past presidents. But the states and small businesses said in their lawsuits that Section 301 tariffs have historically been targeted to address specific nations and industries, and Trump’s broad-brush approach has no historical precedent.

The states’ complaint, like two ⁠previous ​lawsuits filed by small businesses over the tariffs, also argued that the new ​tariffs used “forced labor” as a pretext to re-impose the tariffs that had already been ruled illegal in court. They said that a sweeping tax on imports would ​do nothing to address the real problems of forced labor around the world.

President Donald Trump said Monday that while he believes Rep. Max Miller is “a very good person,” he’s “going to let the families figure that out,” before weighing in more substantively on the domestic abuse allegations against the Ohio Republican. Miller posted a video to social media over the weekend insisting he will stay in his race for reelection, despite claims of domestic abuse from his ex-wife and a statement from his former father-in-law, Ohio Republican Sen. Bernie Moreno, that the congressman “should not serve” in Congress. Miller was married to Moreno’s daughter, Emily Moreno, from 2022 to 2025, and they share a daughter. Their divorce led to a highly contentious and public custody battle. Emily Moreno has accused Miller of multiple instances of domestic abuse, which he has denied. Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., in a letter to President Donald Trump suggested that an examination of the evidence indicates that the administration’s boat strikes against alleged drug traffickers have killed people who were not participating in narcotrafficking.

“They are murder victims,” the lawmaker asserted in the Aug. 3 letter.

White House spokesperson Anna Kelly said in a statement provided to Fox News Digital, “On the campaign trail, President Trump promised to take on the cartels – and he has taken unprecedented action to stop the scourge of narcoterrorism that has resulted in the needless deaths of innocent Americans. All of these decisive strikes have been against designated narcoterrorists bringing deadly poison to our shores, and the President will continue to use every element of American power to stop drugs from flooding into our country and to bring those responsible to justice.”

Fox News Digital also reached out to the War Department on Monday.

The U.S. military has conducted dozens of deadly strikes against vessels of alleged “narco-terrorists.”

“In late July 2025, you directed the Department of Defense to conduct kinetic operations to combat narcotrafficking operations in the Americas. You selected numerous organizations for targeting. That target list is classified so I cannot reveal it. Importantly, the classification of the list means that those you have asked the Department of Defense to target are entirely unaware that they are marked for execution,” Kaine wrote in the letter.

“In September 2025, the United States launched boat strikes in international waters in the Americas pursuant to your directive. A Department of Justice Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) opinion issued in September 2025 provided legal support for such operations so long as they complied with specific factual conditions. That legal opinion (and the specific factual conditions) is classified. As a result, these conditions are also unknown to those being targeted,” he continued.

“A Department of Defense order implementing your July directive (the EXORD) was issued in October 2025. The EXORD contains targeting criteria that the Department of Defense should use in carrying out your kinetic operations directive. The EXORD and its targeting criteria are also classified,” the senator noted.

“My review of your directive, the OLC legal opinion, the EXORD, and the notifications of the boat strikes, makes clear that the United States is engaged in violent and fatal attacks against people far beyond those whom the OLC opinion claimed could be lawfully targeted. In other words, a careful review of the available evidence suggests that the United States has killed individuals who are not involved in narcotrafficking,” he declared.

Kaine has served in the U.S. Senate since early 2013 and was Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s running mate during the 2016 White House contest that Trump won.
