![President Donald Trump arrives at an event at the Red Rock Resort in Las Vegas on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2026.(Mark Schiefelbein/AP)]

President Donald Trump declared Thursday that the U.S. has a “massive” munitions stockpile and “treasonous” leakers are “being hunted down” after reports emerged claiming the U.S. Army has burned through nearly all of its stockpiles of two of its primary long-range precision weapons.

The Army has used “virtually all” of its inventories of Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) and Precision Strike Missiles (PrSM) during the five-month conflict with Iran, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing people familiar with internal U.S. military data.

“The U.S. has massive amounts of ‘munitions,’ especially of certain types. Additionally, large amounts are being manufactured and shipped to the U.S. as needed. Defense companies are building the largest number of plants and factories in our country’s history,” Trump wrote on Truth Social early Thursday.

“The ‘leakers’ of these treasonous statements are being hunted down. Long term jail sentences will be sought!” the president added.

ALARMING MISSILE REPORT DRAWS FORCEFUL RESPONSE FROM TRUMP AS IRAN WAR TESTS AMERICA’S ARSENAL

President Donald Trump arrives at an event at the Red Rock Resort in Las Vegas on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2026.(Mark Schiefelbein/AP)

Trump’s message was reposted on X by Secretary of War Pete Hegseth.

If accurate, the Reuters report underscores a long-standing Pentagon concern: America’s most sophisticated precision weapons can be expended in months but often take years to replace.

Officials fear the drawdown could complicate the military’s ability to respond to future crises involving adversaries such as China and Russia, according to the report.

WEAPONS STOCKPILE SHORTAGES IMPACTING MILITARY STRATEGY IN THE MIDEAST

Reuters also reported that the conflict significantly reduced inventories of Patriot and THAAD missile interceptors, along with Tomahawk cruise missiles, though the Pentagon has maintained the U.S. military retains the capabilities needed to carry out operations worldwide.

Exact U.S. weapons stockpile figures remain classified for national security reasons.

Some estimates show the U.S. has used more than half of its stockpiles of some weapons systems in the war with Iran. The Center for Strategic and International Studies found the U.S. has enough missiles to continue fighting in Iran under any plausible scenario, but the group says the true issue with the shrinking stockpiles is future wars.

“The depletion of munitions was a major topic and a major reason for the suspension of air attacks,” Mark Cancian, a retired U.S. Marine colonel and senior advisor with the CSIS Defense and Security Department, told Fox News’ Bret Baier. “Our inventories were getting way below what the war planners wanted. That might encourage China to do something.”

CSIS notes many munition stockpiles are substantial but focused its analysis on seven key weapons that have been effective in Iran and would also be valuable in a possible Pacific conflict.

Trump said in a statement provided to Fox News Digital on Wednesday, “We have far more munitions than anyone in the world, and far more than we need, despite the fact that an unprecedented amount was given away by Crooked Joe Biden and the Biden Administration to Ukraine and Europe at no cost, in one of many of their extremely dumb moves.”

The Pentagon has also pushed back on the reporting.

We have executed multiple successful operations across combatant commands while ensuring the U.S. military possesses a deep arsenal of capabilities to protect our people and our interests,” chief spokesman Sean Parnell said in a statement.

Trump voter pleads for fiancée’s release after ICE arrest: “They’re destroying families”

    2026-08-06T09:07:00-0400 / CBS News

    By
    Camilo Montoya-Galvez Immigration Correspondent

John Gannon says he deeply regrets his decision to vote for President Trump after his fiancée, an immigrant from Venezuela, was arrested and detained by federal immigration agents last month.

A lifelong Republican and Texas businessman, Gannon, 75, said his plans to marry 45-year-old Yasmin Suarez Reyes were derailed when she was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement at Houston’s international airport in late July.

“I voted for Trump,” he told CBS News during an interview Wednesday, before criticizing ICE. “They are picking up law-abiding citizens. They’re destroying families, jobs.”

Asked what he would tell Mr. Trump if given the chance to talk to him, Gannon said he would ask the president, “What are you doing?”

“Go after the criminals. We’re all for that. But leave the mom and pops and the kids alone. Man, he’s destroying families,” Gannon added.

Gannon said he and Suarez Reyes were planning to travel from Houston to Las Vegas on July 24 for a furniture industry convention. Gannon owns more than 1,000 billboards in the U.S. as well as several establishments in Mexico, including a hotel and a restaurant.

After going through security at Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport, Gannon said his fiancée was arrested by agents in plainclothes.

“After leaving the United room, eight officers, ICE agents swarmed Yasmin and detained her. (They) didn’t tell us why and wrestled her off into a car,” he recounted.

Anne Kennedy, Suarez Reyes’ immigration attorney and another lifelong Republican, said her client was arrested despite entering the U.S. legally, having a pending immigration case and lacking a criminal record.

John Gannon and his fiancée, Yasmin Suarez Reyes. John Gannon

Government records reviewed by CBS News show Suarez Reyes entered the U.S. legally in October 2023 under the Visa Waiver Program. While Suarez Reyes was born in Venezuela, she holds citizenship in Spain, one of the more than 40 countries whose citizens are eligible to come to the U.S. as tourists or temporary travelers under the visa-free arrangement.

Stays under the Visa Waiver Program generally last for 90 days. But Suarez Reyes applied for asylum with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services in January 2024, before that timeframe lapsed, documents show. That asylum case remains pending. Kennedy said her client was able to get a work permit and a Texas driver’s license in the meantime.

Kennedy said Suarez Reyes would also have an avenue to apply for permanent U.S. residency, or a green card, if she were able to marry Gannon, an American citizen.

But because her underlying permission to be in the U.S. expired, Suarez Reyes was detained to be processed for deportation, according to correspondence Kennedy received from ICE.

CBS News reached out to the Department of Homeland Security multiple times to inquire about Suarez Reyes’ case, but has yet to hear back. Earlier this week, ICE’s online detainee tracking system indicated she was being held at the Montgomery Processing Center in Conroe, Texas.

“For almost two weeks now, she has been in a physical jail cell, when she has done nothing more than follow the laws of the United States and do what our immigration laws allow her to do,” Kennedy said.

Suarez Reyes is one of many immigrants arrested in recent weeks at airports across the country as part of the latest front in the Trump administration’s deportation crackdown. Last month, ICE arrests soared to a record monthly high, in part driven by the airport arrests.

Like Suarez Reyes, many of those arrested as part of ICE’s airport crackdown are in a legal gray area, holding valid work permits and having legal immigration cases pending but still being vulnerable to arrest given the expiration of their status.

Back in Texas, Gannon said he misses his fiancée dearly.

“She’s focused me more on my religious path,” he said, his voice breaking. “I mean, Yasmin’s good as gold.”

Republican senators debated Sen. Rand Paul’s, R-Ky., plan to send a criminal contempt referral against former White House COVID advisor Anthony Fauci directly to the Department of Justice, raising questions about the legal viability of the effort and the procedural path forward.

Paul, the leader of the push, told Fox News Digital on Tuesday that he was confident the votes would be there to move forward with holding Fauci in contempt of Congress, and that his next plan is to move forward with sending the referral directly over to the Justice Department.

Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Miss., said his office has already begun drafting a memo to Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche to urge the Justice Department to pursue a criminal contempt case against Fauci.

“My team is working right now on a memo to Blanche explaining why we think that he can be prosecuted for contempt of Congress,” Hawley told Fox News Digital. “He’s not entitled to immunity, taken the Fifth, when he already has a pardon. It’s one or the other. “

After the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee voted Thursday to hold Fauci in contempt, the next step is typically for a full Senate vote to be held.

“It’s got to actually go through the full Senate,” Lankford said. “That’s the challenge.”

But Paul’s more unusual plan to skip the vote in the Senate and send the criminal referral straight to the Justice Department could be a viable route. Vice President J.D. Vance, the President of the Senate, would have to certify the resolution and refer it to the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia. This would likely be make it easier to prosecute Fauci as it wouldn’t require 60 votes in the Senate.

Lankford brought up the risk in utilizing this procedure as it could prompt a potential for Democrats to use it to their advantage in the future.

“The vice president would have to make a decision if he wants to try to change the structure of what has been done in the Senate, because then that would make them vulnerable three years from now to a future, maybe, Democrat Senate,” Lankford said.

Sen. Ashley Moody, R-Fla., backed Paul’s decision to send the contempt referral to the Justice Department, as she believes it is “necessary” to be resolved in a court regardless.

“I think Rand Paul feels very strongly that you can’t have him coming in and pleading the Fifth in this situation,” Moody said. “I think he also believes ultimately this will wind up in a court and that will be clarified by a court, and I think that’s probably necessary as we move forward.”

CAN FAUCI HIDE BEHIND THE FIFTH? GAME-CHANGING BIDEN PARDON MAY NOT PROVIDE COMPLETE COVER, EXPERTS SAY

    https://www.foxnews.com/video/6402867025112

Fauci is under a presidential pardon for all actions taken between Jan. 1, 2014, and Jan. 19, 2025, from former President Joe Biden, which has prompted widespread doubt on whether he is able to invoke his Fifth Amendment right to not self-incriminate.

Sen. Mike Rounds, R-S.D., told Fox News Digital he questions whether there is a sufficient legal basis for holding Fauci in contempt, arguing that his invocation of the Fifth Amendment complicates the case.

“The first thing you have to do is identify what it is that you would be holding him in contempt for,” Rounds said. “I think he took the Fifth. And doing so, I think it makes it more difficult for anybody to actually suggest that.”

He also urged his colleagues to remember the fear they all shared during that time period, over the rapidly increasing death rate and the looming uncertainty.

US labor market stable; worker productivity accelerates in second quarter

    2026-08-06T12:51:06.107Z / Reuters

    • Summary
    • Weekly jobless claims edge up 1,000 to 199,000, below economists’ expectations
    • Planned layoffs drop 27% to 33,429 in July, a two-year low
    • Worker productivity grows at 1.4% pace in second quarter, beating expectations for a 0.6% rate

WASHINGTON, Aug 6 (Reuters) – The number of Americans filing claims for unemployment benefits increased slightly last week, while layoffs dropped to a two-year low in July, consistent with a stable labor market.

Other data on Thursday showed worker productivity grew faster than expected in the second quarter, curbing gains in labor costs. The lack of labor market stress and contained wage pressures gave ‌the Federal Reserve room to focus on the inflation fallout from the Middle East conflict, economists said. They said there were some signs that the adoption of artificial intelligence by businesses was raising productivity.

Still, economists said the U.S. central bank could raise interest rates next month unless inflation improved.

“A true productivity miracle that brings down some of the higher price costs borne by consumers and business and keeps overall inflation in check depends on whether the emerging advancements in AI technology truly enable workers to produce goods more cheaply and provide services at a lower cost over time,” said Christopher Rupkey, chief economist at FWDBONDS.

Initial claims for state unemployment benefits rose 1,000 to a seasonally adjusted 199,000 for the week ended August 1, the Labor Department said. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast 202,000 claims for the latest week.

Claims have dropped considerably since surging in early June, and are at the lower end of their 189,000-230,000 range for this year. Though some of the decline reflects difficulties adjusting the data for seasonal fluctuations in summer, layoffs have remained very low despite the oil price shock from the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran, now in its sixth month.

There are also no signs of widespread job losses linked to the AI buildout, with layoffs mostly confined to the technology industry. A separate report from global outplacement firm Challenger, Gray and Christmas on Thursday showed planned job cuts by U.S.-based employers dropped 27% to 33,429 in July, the lowest level since July 2024. Announced layoffs fell 46% from a year ago. They are down 41% this year compared to the same period in 2025.

The number of people receiving unemployment benefits after an initial week of aid, a proxy for hiring, increased 24,000 to a seasonally adjusted 1.801 million during the week ended July 25, the claims report showed. The claims data have no bearing on the Labor Department’s closely watched employment report for July, scheduled to be released on Friday.

Nonfarm payrolls likely increased by 80,000 jobs last month after rising 57,000 in June, a Reuters survey of economists showed. The unemployment rate is forecast holding steady at 4.2%. There is, however, a risk the jobless rate could edge higher after a Conference Board survey last week showed the share of consumers viewing jobs as “plentiful” dropped in July to the lowest ‌level since February 2021.

Job growth has slowed after accelerating in the spring. An Institute for Supply Management survey on Wednesday showed a measure of services sector employment contracted in July.

Stocks on Wall Street were mostly lower. The dollar gained versus a basket of currencies. U.S. Treasury yields rose.

The Fed last week left its benchmark overnight interest rate in a 3.50%-3.75% range. Three members of the U.S. central bank’s policy-setting committee dissented. They “preferred” a quarter-percentage-point hike.

    WAGE INFLATION CONTAINED

In a separate report, the Labor Department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics said nonfarm productivity, which measures hourly output per worker, increased at a 1.4% annualized rate last quarter after advancing at an upwardly revised 0.8% pace in the January-March quarter.

Economists had forecast productivity would grow at a 0.6% rate following a previously reported 0.3% pace of increase in the first quarter. Productivity grew at a 2.2% rate from a year ago. It has grown at a 2.1% rate from the fourth quarter of 2019 through the second quarter of 2026. The BLS said the labor share, the percentage of output that accrues to workers in the form of compensation, hit a record low 52.9% last quarter.

“Weak growth in the labor force likely is pushing companies to squeeze a bit more from their existing workforce,” said Oliver Allen, senior U.S. economist at Pantheon Macroeconomics.

Economists and policymakers are anticipating an AI buildout will boost productivity and curb inflation through a reduction in labor costs. Unit labor costs — the price of labor per single unit of output — increased at a 1.3% rate last quarter, after rising at a downwardly revised 1.3% pace in the first quarter.

Economists had expected unit labor costs to increase at a 2.1% rate last quarter after a previously reported 1.8% pace of growth in the January-March quarter. Labor costs grew at a 1.4% rate from a year ago. Hourly compensation increased at a 2.7% rate last quarter and grew at a 3.7% pace from a year ago.

Some economists drew attention to unit nonlabor payments, and argued that benign labor costs on their own were insufficient to turn the tide on inflation. Unit nonlabor payments surged at a 14.0% pace last quarter, the fastest in four years, and increased at a 9.0% rate from a year ago.

“So, relatively tame unit labor costs are not a sufficient condition for achieving 2% inflation in the current environment,” said Stephen Stanley, chief U.S. economist at Santander U.S. Capital Markets.
