Entire neighborhoods in Indiana are underwater after the White River rose to record-breaking levels, cresting at more than 24.5 feet, which is over a foot higher than the record set in 1913.

Since Tuesday, more than 11 inches of rain have fallen east of Indianapolis. Gov. Mike Braun declared a state of emergency on Thursday and mobilized the Indiana National Guard.

“Our state response is fully mobilized, resources are moving where they’re needed, and we will continue working around the clock to support every impacted community,” Braun said in a statement.

In Anderson, Indiana, people were ordered to evacuate after several feet of water covered streets and surrounded homes.

Charlie Simmons, who lives in Anderson, said he just rebuilt his home.

“I’ve been working on it for about the last year,” he said. “I got in a couple months ago. Now it’s destroyed.”

As a lifelong Anderson resident, Simmons said he’s never seen flooding this severe.

The town of Yorktown, Indiana, which is in Delaware County, shared videos Thursday on its Facebook page, showing the widespread damage and severity of the flooding.

Meanwhile, in nearby Franklin County, swampy water covered train tracks and streets, and for the second consecutive day, several feet of water surrounded homes in Cambridge City.

Malliotakis called on the Senate to pass President Donald Trump’s Safeguard America’s Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act, a piece of legislation that would require voters to prove American citizenship before casting a ballot.

“If you want people to be confident in the outcome of the election, then we need to pass the Save America Act. We need to require voter ID,” Malliotakis told Fox News Digital.

“Over 80% of America wants it,” Malliotakis continued, adding “the only people that don’t seem to want it are the Democrats who are in Congress right now and they’re not representing the people of their districts who are overwhelmingly saying they want it. Regardless of political affiliation, regardless of race, they are saying that they want a voter ID and the Senate Democrats should vote for it,” she continued.

“Let’s make sure that we show America that we’re taking the integrity of our elections seriously. And voter ID is really the most common-sense step that we should be taking as a body,” she added.

Malliotakis pinned the blame in particular on Schumer for blocking the SAVE Act.

These Senators keep going to their district saying that they support the SAVE America act, or at least they’re telling their constituents that they support voter ID, and then they go to Washington and they vote against it, and so citizens need to hold those senators accountable,” she told Fox News Digital.

“Unfortunately that dissent is being led by my own senator, Senator Chuck Schumer. Who always seems to be at odds with his constituents and America these days,” she said.

Malliotakis, New York City’s lone Republican in Congress, also laid into Mamdani, highlighting what she called his hypocrisy in requiring identification for city programs.

“This is the hypocrisy we’re seeing where things like that for everyday activities, they want ID, but when it comes to voting, the most important thing you do as a United States citizen is vote in your elections and elect your representatives, they don’t want any type of accountability, any type a transparency or any type of requirement for voter identification to prove who you are, that you’re eligible to vote, that you actually reside in the district in which you’re voting and that you are an American citizen,” she said.

Malliotakis also pointed to a recent event in her Staten Island district where Mamdani was booed off the stage.

“This was an event for National Night Out Against Crime. It was in support of our law enforcement and the NYPD. Mamdani, in his career as a state assembly member, led the fight for the defund the police movement. And my constituents have not forgotten that. So number one, they were calling him out on his hypocrisy. But number two, they are making very clear they do not support his communist agenda and my borough of Staten Island is the only borough in the five boroughs of New York City that did not vote for Zohran Mamdani,” she concluded.

Trump asks Supreme Court to let him build ballroom, citing national security needs and architectural values

President Donald Trump is asking the Supreme Court to allow him to build a ballroom at the White House, citing previous threats to Trump’s life, national security needs and architectural values.

The emergency request filed Friday comes after lower courts repeatedly ruled that Trump needed approval from Congress before moving forward with the $400 million project.

The latest rebuke came last week, when an appeals court in Washington, DC, said the president lacked any authority to unilaterally pursue the planned ballroom and ordered him to stop work at the site of the former East Wing until lawmakers gave their blessing. But the court paused implementation of its decision for 14 days to give Trump time to appeal to the justices.

US Solicitor General John Sauer argued in the filing with the Supreme Court that the East Wing construction was “absolutely required “ for the president’s safety, noting the attempts that have been made on Trump’s life in recent years.

“The President of the United States of America is not a tenant, but rather the sole, elected head of the Executive Branch, and Congress has authorized him to renovate, secure, and protect the White House and its grounds, as other Presidents have been allowed to do, without exception,” Sauer wrote. “The injunction is ‘judicial overreach beyond the proper province of the federal courts.’”

The request is the first time any of Trump’s pet projects has landed before the Supreme Court. In recent months, lower courts sifting through a litany of cases challenging his plans to remake Washington have looked skeptically at his arguments defending his approach or issued rulings frustrating his pursuits.

In the ballroom case, the DC Circuit Court of Appeals agreed on August 7 with a federal judge’s ruling directing Trump to halt work on the above-ground portions of the ballroom. Both rulings permitted construction of a highly sophisticated bunker under the ballroom to continue.

“Whether or not a massive ballroom should be constructed is for Congress to decide and is not a matter for Executive self-help,” the DC Circuit said in its 2-1 ruling.

The case was brought last year by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the nation’s top historic preservation group.

“The National Trust has shown, compellingly, that Congress has not ceded unfettered authority to the Executive Branch to dramatically redesign, reshape, and reconstruct the White House – the People’s House – to fit a particular President’s desires,” the appeals court concluded.

The Trump administration argued Friday that the carveout the lower courts made for continued construction of the security bunker was not enough, and said the order “threatens the security and safety of the President.”

“The entire ballroom structure is designed to shield the military installation beneath it,” Sauer wrote, “Halting the Project will stall this vital construction, making this President — the subject of recurrent assassination attempts — much less safe, and risking future Presidents’ safety.”

Above-grade construction on the ballroom began in the spring and has made considerable progress. Images posted by Trump in early August reveal multiple levels of concrete support columns and metal rebar amid a significant amount of construction equipment, including a tower crane.

The president has been personally involved in ballroom details, from floor plans to marble selection. The sprawling ballroom project has an estimated size of approximately 89,000 square feet, according to lead architect Shalom Baranes. By contrast, the primary White House structure, the Executive Mansion, is just 55,000 square feet.

Trump has maintained that the project isn’t subject to any oversight and that he should be able to continue with it without any serious scrutiny.

The administration said Friday that “Congress gave the President the power to make “alteration[s]” and “improvement[s]” to the White House “as the President may determine.”

Trump has said it will be finished in the summer of 2028, an expedited timeline for completion months before he leaves office.

His administration argued to the Supreme Court that freezing the construction at this stage “would create a veritable obstacle course for the Secret Service, further imperiling safety.”

“The partially finished, 70-foot concrete-and-steel superstructure ‘cannot be largely left alone at this point’ without tremendous setbacks that will fundamentally compromise the integrity of everything currently built there,’ not to mention the ‘major safety risk’ from leaving it with inadequate’ stability or strength to handle wind and heavy loads on [its] own,” Sauer said.

‘Magnificent Corinthian columns’

Friday’s filing said the ballroom’s design had been inspired by the Supreme Court “and, in particular, its magnificent Corinthian columns — considered the highest column order in architecture.”

The columns, made of the “highest-grade Indiana limestone” that had been shipped to Italy, “are being being carved by some of the greatest artists anywhere in the world,” Sauer said.

“Delivery and installation will begin shortly,” he said.

Feds charge woman for allegedly vandalizing World War II Memorial in D.C.

Washington — The top federal prosecutor in Washington, D.C., said a woman has been arrested and faces two felony charges related to vandalism of the World War II Memorial in the capital.

Melissa Farris has been charged with depredation against property of the United States and destruction of veterans’ memorials, U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro said on X. Pirro said Farris is in custody.

“Vandalizing our World War II Memorial is a despicable attack on a sacred monument honoring the Americans who fought and died for our freedom,” Pirro said.

The World War II Memorial is located on the National Mall, between the Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument. On Thursday, fountains at the memorial were seen filled with soapy bubbles, and a wall was defaced with red paint, including graffiti reading “Clean Hands Dirty $.”

A spokesperson for the Department of the Interior said in a statement Thursday that U.S. Park Police were investigating the incident. In a Truth Social post Friday morning, President Trump said there was “NO GREATER INSULT TO THOSE AMERICAN HEROES WHO DIED IN WORLD WAR II.”

The Friends of the National World War II Memorial, a nonprofit organization that works to preserve the site, said in a statement that “a national memorial honoring those who served and those who never returned home should never be used as a canvas for vandalism.”

The arrest comes amid heightened scrutiny and security on the National Mall over recent renovations and restoration projects.

In July, four people, including former Olympian David Hearn, were indicted or charged by Pirro’s office with allegedly damaging the newly renovated Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. But the charges were ultimately dropped after federal prosecutors said that the damage was caused by a “botched” construction job by a contractor, and not vandalism.

Last week, CBS News reported that White House officials asked the Justice Department to weigh bringing the charges against Hearn again, after Mr. Trump continued to claim without evidence that there “may have been some contractor difficulty, but the major damage was caused by VANDALS!”

No final decision has been made, sources told CBS News.

Another case of vandalism involved the lawn near the Washington Monument in June, when discoloration in the grass began to emerge, spelling out “86 47” in huge letters. No one has been charged in relation to the markings.

The term is at the center of the prosecution of former FBI Director James Comey, who posted an image of seashells arranged as “86 47” to Instagram. Prosecutors say the post amounted to a threat against the president. Comey deleted the post and said he did not know the numbers could connote violence.
