“This is the future,” said the CEO.

等等,让我再看一下用户的输入的标题:“美伊冲突持续 波斯湾产油国促日韩等客户扩大储备”,这是中文的标题,那如果按照系统提示的要求,翻译成英文的话,应该是“US-Iran Tensions Persist, Persian Gulf Oil Producers Urge Japan, South Korea and Other Clients to Expand Reserves”。

比如,原文的英文标题是“US-Iran Tensions Persist, Persian Gulf Oil Producers Urge Japan, South Korea and Other Clients to Expand Reserves”,中文译文是“美伊冲突持续 波斯湾产油国促日韩等客户扩大储备”,那如果用户输入的是中文译文,那我需要把它翻译成英文原文?

US-Iran Tensions Persist, Persian Gulf Oil Producers Urge Japan, South Korea and Other Clients to Expand Reserves

August 19, 2026, 19:28 / Lianhe Zaobao

(路透社档案照片) → During the US-Iran conflict, Fujairah Port, a key oil industrial zone in the UAE (pictured), and a Saudi Aramco refinery were attacked by drones, severely disrupting production activities. (Reuters file photo)

(New York Comprehensive Cable)

→ According to reports, Middle Eastern energy giants are scrambling to transfer more oil to safe storage locations outside the volatile Persian Gulf region, as the protracted US-Iran conflict forces oil producers and major importers to rethink supply security.

→ The New York Times cited sources as saying that Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have urged Japan to expand their respective crude oil reserves stored in Japan by up to 10 times, from the current 8 million barrels each. Officials from the two countries have also held similar discussions with South Korea.

→ For Persian Gulf oil exporters, storing more crude oil overseas provides a safeguard as maritime chokepoints grow increasingly tense. For Asia’s largest oil customers, expanding inventories offers an additional buffer, but also reduces commercial inventory space for domestic refiners and national reserves.

→ Nearly six months after the US and Iran entered into conflict, the reallocation of oil reserves is one of several fundamental shifts reshaping the global energy market. Just as the 1970s oil crisis prompted governments to establish strategic reserves and accelerate the development of more energy-efficient cars and factories, the current crisis is forcing countries and businesses to restructure their supply chain networks.

→ In the Middle East, oil producers are building or expanding pipelines designed to bypass the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, major importers are competing to source more oil and natural gas from outside the region and accelerating investment in domestic energy facilities.

→ Tatsuya Terasawa, chairman of the Institute of Energy Economics, Japan, analyzed that in the first few months after the outbreak of the US-Iran conflict, there were repeated hopes that the Strait of Hormuz would reopen soon. “But right now, we cannot count on President Trump to solve this problem.”

→ He told The New York Times that the Middle East and other parts of Asia hardest hit by the economic impact of the crisis “must find ways to address their own vulnerabilities on their own.”

→ Japan has long stored foreign crude oil from Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Kuwait. As domestic oil consumption has declined from its peak in the 2000s, Japan’s storage facilities have freed up more idle capacity that can be rented to overseas producers.

→ This arrangement provides Middle Eastern energy companies with a commercial export hub close to the major East Asian customer base. For Japan, which is almost entirely dependent on fossil fuel imports and sources more than 90% of its crude oil from the Middle East, this model ensures that Japan can prioritize access to these reserve oils in the event of a severe supply emergency.

Just as the 1970s oil crisis prompted governments to establish strategic reserves and accelerate the development of more energy-efficient cars and factories, the current crisis is forcing countries and businesses to restructure their supply chain networks.

In the Middle East, oil producers are building or expanding pipelines designed to bypass the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, major importers are competing to source more oil and natural gas from outside the region and accelerating investment in domestic energy facilities.

Tatsuya Terasawa, chairman of the Institute of Energy Economics, Japan, analyzed that in the first few months after the outbreak of the US-Iran conflict, there were repeated hopes that the Strait of Hormuz would reopen soon. “But right now, we cannot count on President Trump to solve this problem.”

He told The New York Times that the Middle East and other parts of Asia hardest hit by the economic impact of the crisis “must find ways to address their own vulnerabilities on their own.”

Japan has long stored foreign crude oil from Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Kuwait. As domestic oil consumption has declined from its peak in the 2000s, Japan’s storage facilities have freed up more idle capacity that can be rented to overseas producers.

This arrangement provides Middle Eastern energy companies with a commercial export hub close to the major East Asian customer base. For Japan, which is almost entirely dependent on fossil fuel imports and sources more than 90% of its crude oil from the Middle East, this model ensures that Japan can prioritize access to these reserve oils in the event of a severe supply emergency.

Most Americans believe Trump has inappropriately profited since returning to power, Reuters/Ipsos poll finds

    2026-08-19T10:04:00.869Z / Reuters

WASHINGTON, Aug 19 (Reuters) – A majority of Americans believe President Donald Trump and his family have inappropriately profited from cryptocurrency since his return to power and that his policy decisions are influenced by his private business dealings, a new Reuters/Ipsos poll found.

The four-day poll, completed ‌on Monday, found that half of Trump’s own Republicans believe the president allows considerations for his business interests to influence his decisions, a striking finding for a leader who pledged to clean up corruption in Washington.

The Reuters Daily Briefing newsletter provides all the news you need to start your day. Sign up here.

Trump was born into a New York real estate family and built his name into a globally recognized brand before running for office. He earned more than $1.4 billion last year from his family’s cryptocurrency ventures, including World Liberty Financial and the Trump meme coin, digital assets he has publicly championed. In March 2025, two months into his second term, the president called attention on social media to his self-branded crypto coin, describing it as the “Greatest of them all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Some 63% of respondents said it was inappropriate for Trump and his family to have profited in that way, while 32% said it was appropriate and the rest did not answer the question. About three in 10 Republican respondents called the deals inappropriate, while seven in ten said they were appropriate.

Democrats regularly highlight alleged corruption in the administration ahead of the November midterm elections that will determine control of Congress for the next two years, while Trump’s administration has vowed to investigate alleged corruption in Democratic-run states.

Trump says that he has had no day-to-day role in his family’s business since returning to office and that his investments are independently managed. He has pursued crypto-friendly policies in his second term, after courting crypto cash on the campaign trail.

The White House dismissed any allegations of impropriety, saying Trump’s investments were managed by independent financial institutions.

“There are no conflicts of interest,” White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly said in a statement. “The President only acts in the best interests of the American public.”

    ‘NOTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE’

But experts on presidential ethics called the current confluence of business and politics in the White House unprecedented.

“We have seen nothing like this before, even the first Trump administration did not have as many ‌complex business interests as the second Trump administration,” said Richard Painter, the top ethics lawyer for Republican President George W. Bush.

Some 69% of Americans – including two-thirds of independents and nine in 10 Democrats – said they thought Trump’s private business interests were influencing his presidential decisions.

Americans are divided on whether corruption is worse under the Trump administration than under other recent presidents. Democrats largely think there is more graft, while Republicans are split roughly down the middle, with 56% thinking corruption is at least a little better and the rest thinking it is steady or worse.

“It’s concerning,” said Thomas Schmidt, a semi-retired crossing guard in Cudahy, Wisconsin, who voted for Trump in 2024 but has soured on the president this year. “He should be more concerned with his presidency than with his business practices.”

Schmidt said his biggest worries are about Trump’s inability to control inflation or extract the U.S. from the war with Iran that he helped start. He doesn’t think Trump is different from other presidents in mixing his business deals with politics. “I think every president’s done something like that.”

Trump campaigned ahead of his 2016 presidential victory on a promise to fight corruption in Washington, or “drain the swamp,” as he put it.

The public’s views of Trump’s personal enrichment could weigh on his party in the November midterm elections, which will determine who controls Congress during the last two years of his term. Americans say corruption is prevalent across all levels of government, with four in 10 Democrats saying they are extremely angry about graft, compared with one in four Republicans. When poll respondents were asked which party was more corrupt, 41% pointed to the Democratic Party and 49% to the Republican Party.

The Reuters/Ipsos poll, which was conducted online, surveyed 1,166 U.S. adults nationwide between August 14 and August 17. The results had a margin of error of 3 percentage points for all Americans and 5 points for Democrats, Republicans and independents.

US families, healthcare providers under strain after Trump crackdown on Haitian immigrants

    2026-08-19T10:04:42.669Z / reuters.com

    • About 21,000 Haitian TPS holders worked in the U.S. as caregivers, serving roughly 77,000 patients
    • New York non-profit Jawonio cut 7% of staff after protections ended, hitting hard-to-fill disability support roles
    • Florida appealed to DHS for exemptions for long-term Haitian caregivers

NEW CITY, New York, Aug 19 (Reuters) – Richie Rosen, 43, was born with a rare genetic condition called Williams syndrome. His hands are weak and unreliable. He longs for human connection but gets anxious in social situations and is easily upset.

For four years, a Haitian caregiver named Tassy helped him navigate day-to-day life at a group home for developmentally disabled men in upstate New York – cooking for ‌him, driving him around and making difficult chores more manageable.

But on July 27, Jawonio, the nonprofit that runs the facility, terminated Tassy’s contract after the Trump administration ended Temporary Protected Status for Haitians and the work authorization that came with it.

“I miss him a lot,” Rosen told Reuters last week, sitting in his room at the home in Rockland County, a leafy suburb north of New York City. “I miss him just saying hi to me all the time.”

Around 21,000 of the 330,000 Haitians in the United States under TPS worked as caregivers and nursing assistants as of last year, serving around 77,000 patients, according to an analysis of U.S. census data by Philip Connor, a research fellow at Princeton University.

Their abrupt removal from the healthcare industry has placed additional strain on a system already struggling to meet the needs of the fast-aging U.S. population. It also came as a shock to families that relied on them.

Richie’s mother, Sharon Rosen, said Tassy was “like family” to her son, who never got the chance to say goodbye to his longtime aide.

“My heart is breaking for him and for my son,” she said.

Reuters was unable to reach Tassy for this story and is using only his first name due to his vulnerable legal status.

Jawonio was forced to lay off nearly two dozen Haitians last month, totaling 7% of its staff. Most of those affected provided round-the-clock care for disabled patients for around $20 per hour, just a few dollars above New York’s minimum wage.

“These are among the most difficult positions to fill,” Jawonio’s CEO, Randi Rios-Castro, told Reuters in response to emailed questions.

“This has never been just an immigration issue,” she wrote of the decision to end TPS. “It is a healthcare workforce issue for us and our country.”

    ‘PATIENT CARE SUFFERS’

The United States granted humanitarian protection to Haitians following a devastating earthquake in 2010.

The Trump administration cited improving conditions in Haiti as a reason for ending the program, though the country remains among the most unstable in the Western Hemisphere.

Haiti has not held elections since 2016; its last president was assassinated in 2021.

Gang violence has convulsed the capital. 1.4 million people are displaced from their homes, the U.N. said last year, and about 6 in 10 live in poverty.

No longer able to legally work in the United States, former TPS holders can now return to Haiti voluntarily — or try to stay in the U.S. and risk arrest ‌and deportation.

New York state had the second-largest number of Haitian TPS holders after Florida, one of the country’s most popular retirement destinations.

Weeks before TPS was set to expire, Emmett Reed, CEO of the Florida Health Care Association, sent a letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin urging him to consider an exemption for long-term caregivers.

“Florida is home to one of the nation’s largest and fastest-growing older adult populations, and demand for long-term care services continues to increase each year,” Reed wrote in the letter.

The loss of Haitian workers risked “causing a ripple effect that could overwhelm our local hospitals and the entire healthcare system,” he continued.

Nancy Hagans, president of the New York State Nurses Association, moved to the U.S. from Haiti as a child and works at a hospital in Brooklyn. At an August 5 vigil held outside Maimonides Medical Center to protest staffing shortages, she compared the impact of ending TPS to the workforce deficit during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“When healthcare workers live in fear of going to work, patient care suffers,” Hagans told the crowd.

Responding to questions from Reuters, the Department of Homeland Security said it was “grossly false and lazy” to assert the healthcare industry relied on immigrants, adding that “for too long, TPS has been allowed to function as a de facto amnesty program.”

Jawonio has appealed for help to Republican Congressman Mark Lawler, who represents Rockland County in New York’s lower Hudson Valley, home to an estimated 11,000 Haitians.

Lawler, facing a competitive race in November’s midterm elections, has opposed stripping Haitians of protections despite being a backer of Trump and his hardline immigration agenda.

His office said he is working with Jawonio and other local groups to find alternative legal statuses for Haitian TPS holders.

“Losing these experienced workers creates real staffing challenges for providers who were already facing shortages and risks disrupting care for vulnerable residents,” Lawler’s spokeswoman Caroline Hunt wrote in an email to Reuters.

    FAMILY FILLS IN

At the group home in Rockland County, staffers are picking up extra shifts after the departures of Tassy and Marc, another former Haitian caregiver.

For the Rosens, the loss feels personal.

Sharon, 77, said she told her son that Tassy might have to leave because of new immigration policies. But she didn’t expect it to happen overnight.

Now, she and her 81-year-old husband are trying to help fill the gaps, including driving him to his job at a nearby grocery store.

Rosen, asked to recall the moment he learned his aide was gone, didn’t want to discuss it.

“I hope one day I can see him again,” he said.

Sen. Dan Sullivan, Mary Peltola advance in Alaska Senate primary

    2026-08-19T06:13:00-0400 / CBS News

Washington — GOP Sen. Dan Sullivan and former Democratic Rep. Mary Peltola are among those advancing to the general election in November in Alaska’s Senate race, CBS News projects, as Sullivan defends his seat in a race that could be key to determining control of the chamber next year.

Though Alaska hasn’t elected a Democrat to the Senate since 2008, Sullivan, a second-term senator and a Marine veteran who worked at the State Department under the George W. Bush administration, faces a formidable opponent in Peltola.

Peltola, 52, became the first Democrat to represent the state in the House in 50 years in 2022, though she ultimately lost her reelection bid for Alaska’s sole House seat the following cycle. But Peltola, the first Alaska Native to serve in Congress, fell short by less than 3 points in the 2024 race, despite President Trump winning the state by 13 points.

With midterm dynamics traditionally boosting the party opposing the White House, Democrats are hoping Peltola, who’s billed herself as an independent voice for Alaskans, can flip the seat in this year’s election, getting them one step closer to taking control of the chamber.

In Alaska, the top four vote-getters in the primary advance to the general election. The other two candidates have not yet been determined.

As Sen. Sullivan, 61, fights to hold on to his seat, which he last won by a comfortable margin in 2020, Republicans are investing in the contest. The Senate Leadership Fund has announced $17 million in advertising spending to boost Sullivan in the race.

On the Democratic side, the Senate Majority PAC has also invested, with more than $12 million in television reservations to support Peltola. But as Peltola is campaigning to flip the seat, she’s drawn a line between herself and one high-profile national Democrat. Peltola’s campaign rejected the support of former Vice President Kamala Harris days ahead of the primary, after Harris’ PAC sought to fundraise on her behalf.

To flip control of the Senate, where Republicans currently hold 53 seats, Democrats would have to win four seats while defending a handful of their own. The 2026 map has long been viewed as difficult for Democrats, with few opportunities for pickups. But with races like the one in Alaska, the party sees an opportunity to improve its chances.

    image

Charlie Kirk was targeted for his politics, prosecutors say bullet engraving shows

    August 19, 2026 7:20 AM EDT / CBS/AP

Salt Lake City — Prosecutors in Charlie Kirk ‘s killing pointed Tuesday to an engraved bullet, arguing that the inscription “Hey Facist! CATCH!” demonstrates that Kirk was targeted for how the defendant perceived his politics.

Whether defendant Tyler Robinson acted out of political animus could be key for prosecutors seeking the death penalty – or for his attorneys in taking that punishment off the table.

The prosecution and defense have filed dueling documents focused on whether the crime included aggravating factors that would make Robinson eligible for the death penalty if convicted. Those include political targeting and whether the shooting endangered thousands of others who attended Kirk’s Sept. 10 event at Utah Valley University.

Robinson is charged with crimes including aggravated murder and has not yet entered a plea. The 23-year-old defendant turned himself in a day after the shooting.

The latest batch of court documents follows a five-day preliminary hearing in July in which prosecutors presented what Kirk’s family described as “overwhelming” evidence against Robinson, while defense attorneys worked to sow doubt about analysts’ findings.

After the hearing, Kirk’s family said in a statement that “as difficult as these last few days have been, it brings our family comfort to know that the world has witnessed the overwhelming evidence of what occurred to Charlie that day. Nothing will ever undo the loss of our beloved Charlie. As this case moves into its next phase, we pray that truth will continue to be heard through a process that is fair, transparent, and grounded in the facts.”

Judge Tony Graf said he will decide if the case should advance to trial after he hears again from both sides on Sept. 1.

In a document filed late Tuesday, prosecutors argued the engraved bullet found in the suspected murder weapon was an “overt political reference.” They also noted that Robinson allegedly wrote in a text message about Kirk: “I had enough of his hatred. Some hate can’t be negotiated out.”

Robinson’s attorneys have argued that the text message is not strong enough evidence to prove a political motivation. They did not immediately respond to a request for comment on prosecutors’ new filing.

Before his death, Kirk and the organization he co-founded, Turning Point USA, galvanized the conservative youth vote to help President Trump win a second term.

Prosecutors contend Kirk’s opposition to same-sex marriage and gender-affirming care stood in sharp contrast to Robinson, who was reportedly in a romantic relationship with his roommate, Lance Twiggs. Twiggs told investigators he had considered a gender transition around the time of Kirk’s killing, according to prosecutors.

A handwritten note that prosecutors allege Robinson left for Twiggs read in part, “I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk, and I took it.”

In a recorded interview shown in court last month, Twiggs said he had never heard Robinson talk about Kirk before the shooting. Robinson also did not talk much about gender issues or LGBTQ+ rights, but he did sometimes talk about politics, including Trump, Twiggs told investigators.

The Associated Press emailed Twiggs’ attorney seeking comment.

During the July hearing, investigators presented DNA analyses that they said linked Robinson to both the suspected murder weapon and a tool he allegedly used to engrave the bullet cartridges. Robinson’s attorneys repeatedly questioned the reliability of DNA tests and other evidence.

Defense attorneys also have argued against a possible sentence enhancement for endangering others, saying the shooter “hit the intended target.” Prosecutors said numerous people were within a “zone of danger” around Kirk when he was shot from a rooftop.
