Americans draw the line at livestreaming ‘spectacle’ of Fort Hood shooter’s execution: ‘It’s an abomination’

Most supported the shooter’s death sentence but warned broadcasting the firing squad execution risks turning it into ‘entertainment’

Americans are overwhelmingly against the Pentagon’s decision to livestream the firing squad execution of convicted Fort Hood mass shooter Nidal Hasan later this year.

Those who spoke with Fox News Digital blasted the broadcast as “a shame” and “just weird.”

“I think that’s absolutely absurd,” Anya from Virginia said when asked about the livestream announced by Secretary of War Pete Hegseth. “I think they should keep that discreet and off of the public news.”

“It’s an abomination. It should not happen,” Paul from Illinois definitively stated. “And I’d hate to be one of the soldiers that’s tasked with the job of pulling the trigger.”

Hegseth announced last Thursday the decision to make viewing the execution publicly available. It is set to be the first U.S. military execution in over six decades.

PENTAGON CONFIRMS FORT HOOD TERRORIST’S FIRING SQUAD EXECUTION WILL BE LIVESTREAMED: ‘DETAILS WILL FOLLOW’

The Department of War has advanced the request for the execution of the Fort Hood shooter, Nidal Hasan.

The execution of the mass shooter who killed 13 people and injured 32 in 2009 at Fort Hood, is scheduled for Dec. 3, 2026. Hasan, an Army psychiatrist at the time of the shooting, is now 56 years old and is wheelchair-bound after he was left partially paralyzed after being shot by police officers during his arrest almost 17 years ago.

Several Americans interviewed by Fox News Digital supported Hasan’s death sentence but drew the line at broadcasting his execution, warning it could turn capital punishment into a public spectacle and could be particularly dangerous in today’s political climate.

“I’m not necessarily against giving him the death penalty, but I feel like livestreaming for people’s entertainment is just weird,” Nick from Virginia said.

“I agree with the sentence,” Bobbie from Massachusetts said. “I don’t agree with televising it.”

He added, “Especially given the climate of today, I’m not sure it’s something we need to see.”

“It’s not a practice we should be doing in modern society,” Reid from Ohio said. “It’s rather medieval, in my opinion. I’m certainly pro-death penalty for heinous crimes such as that, but I think that … turns it into something of a spectacle that it really doesn’t have any business being.”

FORT HOOD SURVIVOR SHOT IN HEAD VOWS TO WATCH TERRORIST FACE HISTORIC FIRING SQUAD

But one Virginia man took a drastically different position, suggesting the government should charge Americans to watch the execution and donate the proceeds to the family of U.S. service members who died in the line of duty.

“I think they’re missing an opportunity,” Jason from Virginia said. “It should be pay-per-view and all the proceeds should go to Gold Star families.”

He continued, “You have someone who was a murderous traitor to our country. And there’s not a lot of coverage about that. So I think the public needs and deserves to know the consequences to, well, FAFO.”

Some raised concerns that the execution leaves children vulnerable to possibly accessing or being exposed to watching Hasan die on livestream.

“We have enough violence in our society,” William from Virginia said. “I’m pretty sure he’s guilty, but it doesn’t need to be public. Children could be watching that.”

“I just don’t think that stuff like that should be put on the mainstream,” Ferris from Massachusetts said. “Especially considering that children may have access to seeing it.”

Another pointed out Hasan’s health status, arguing the issue could be approached differently if he was “up and around” but citing the shooter’s well-being as a reason he sees the livestreamed execution as that much more wrong.

“You’re executing somebody who’s not mentally stable, who is in this wheelchair situation,” one respondent told Fox News Digital.

The Trump administration’s announcement of the livestream was largely widely seen as a power play for the United States, demonstrating the consequences of committing such an act of terror on American soil — particularly committing violence toward members of the U.S. military.

“I think they’re trying to make an example out of him, you know?” Nick said. “I think it’s like a show of power. They’re trying to be like … ‘Don’t mess with us.’”

“I think it’s a message that we’re big and tough, and we don’t have much humanity left,” Paul said.

Trump said Saturday that he will make the decision of whether to livestream Hasan’s execution, acknowledging that he knows “what the military would like to do” following Hegseth’s confirmation.

Vice President JD Vance also said Friday that he was not sure that the federal government will be livestreaming the execution, also adding that he would not personally view the livestream.

“The world’s gone crazy,” Anya said. “We need Jesus.”

    2026-10-13T17:10:27.216Z / https://www.cnn.com/2026/10/13/politics/ilhan-omar-home-search-trump

The Ilhan Omar home search fits a very political pattern for Trump and his DOJ

    2026-10-13T17:10:27.216Z / https://www.cnn.com/2026/10/13/politics/ilhan-omar-home-search-trump

It remains to be seen what kind of evidence the Trump Justice Department has against Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, whose DC-area home federal officers searched on Monday.

But it’s worth emphasizing that she’s been a frequent target of Trump, who has often trained his Justice Department on his political enemies. Trump claims he wasn’t involved in the search, but it’s highly unusual for the Justice Department to execute such aggressive investigative steps so close to an election.

And the episode fills out an increasingly remarkable pattern: Leniency for congressional Republicans convicted of crimes, and legal targeting for congressional Democrats — often based on rather thin evidence.

    Here’s a telling stat:

    • Trump has pardoned 9 of the last 11 Republican congressmen to be convicted of federal crimes.
    • His Justice Department has indicted, tried to indict or taken reported investigative steps against at least 13 Democratic members of Congress since he returned to office.

The pardons are for the vast majority of Republicans convicted since 2010: former Reps. George Santos, Chris Collins and Michael Grimm of New York, Steve Buyer of Indiana, Robin Hayes of North Carolina, Duncan Hunter of California, Steve Stockman of Texas, Rick Renzi of Arizona and Mark Siljander of Michigan.

The only Republican congressmen convicted since 2010 that Trump didn’t pardon have been former House Speaker Dennis Hastert, who was convicted in 2015 in a hush money case related to his alleged molestation of high school athletes (Hastert died last week), and former Rep. David Rivera of Florida, who was convicted in May and sentenced last week to 10 years in prison for a secret lobbying campaign for Venezuela.

Rivera, a longtime friend of Secretary of State Marco Rubio, has already applied for a pardon.

On the flipside, Trump’s Justice Department has targeted many Democratic members of Congress.

Some could be for legitimate reasons; now-former Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick resigned from Congress in April amid a bipartisan finding of ethics violations and has been indicted. (She has pleaded not guilty.)

But the evidence against others has been thin. That includes the six Democratic members of Congress that the Trump DOJ tried and failed to indict for cutting a video telling members of the military not to obey illegal orders (even though that’s guidance service members are already given).

All told, the Trump Justice Department has secured indictments of two Democratic members: Cherfilus-McCormick and Rep. LaMonica McIver of New Jersey, who’s accused of assaulting immigration agents during a chaotic scene at a migrant detention center last year. (The indictment does not allege the officers were injured and she has pleaded not guilty.)

The DOJ failed to indict those other six members: Sens. Mark Kelly of Arizona and Elissa Slotkin of Michigan, and Reps. Jason Crow of Colorado, Chris Deluzio and Chrissy Houlahan of Pennsylvania, and Maggie Goodlander of New Hampshire.

And it has taken investigate steps (of varying degrees) against: Omar, Sen. Adam Schiff of California, Sen. Ruben Gallego of Arizona, Rep. Robert Garcia of California and Rep. Eugene Vindman of Virginia.

And when it comes to the partisan breakdown of Trump’s pardons, there are few outliers among members of Congress.

Trump has pardoned two former Democratic members of Congress. But one of them was former Rep. and Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, who was once a contestant on Trump’s reality show “The Apprentice” and became a staunch Trump ally. And the other was Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas, whom the president seems to have pardoned in hopes that he would change parties.

When it comes to investigations against Republicans in Congress, about the only major one appears to be into Rep. Cory Mills of Florida, who some outlets reported in July faced scrutiny. But his problems appear to be so extensive — he lost his primary amid allegations against him — that they would be difficult for the DOJ to ignore. (Trump even claimed after the congressman lost that he’d urged him to drop out of the race.)

Trump’s DOJ has also backed off previously existing investigations or cases involving Rep. Andy Ogles of Tennessee, former Rep. Jeff Fortenberry of Nebraska and, reportedly, Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, according to a major recent ProPublica report.

Some Republicans have embraced Trump’s two-tiered approach to legal scrutiny, arguing turnabout is fair play after the Justice Department under President Joe Biden probed many Republicans.

But there is far less evidence suggesting those investigations resulted from any political pressure coming from the Biden White House. Trump’s DOJ has also managed an extraordinary number of failed indictments against political foes (despite indictments needing to clear a low bar).

And in contrast to the thin evidence against figures like the six congressional Democrats, New York Attorney General Letitia James and former FBI Director James Comey, the vast majority of Trump allies who were indicted wound up being convicted.

Bipartisan senators urge Trump to rescind Russian diesel deal, calling it a “betrayal” of Ukraine

    2026-10-13 12:28:00-0400 / CBS News

Washington — A bipartisan group of senators on Tuesday urged President Trump to withdraw from his diesel deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin and rescind a move to waive sanctions on Russia’s energy sector, saying it “damages American security interests and is a betrayal of the people of Ukraine.”

“This deal is a gift to our adversary and a betrayal of our Allies; it should be rescinded,” the senators wrote.

Mr. Trump announced last week that he had struck a deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin to have Moscow immediately release 300,000 tons of diesel, followed by millions more in the coming months. Putin said Russia “confirmed its readiness to supply oil and petroleum products to the American and global markets.” And the Treasury Department also announced that it would temporarily waive sanctions on Russia’s energy sector to “allow the supply of Russian diesel to the global market.”

The move, which comes as Americans are struggling with high gas and diesel prices amid the war with Iran, has sparked scrutiny from both sides of the aisle. In their letter on Tuesday, a dozen senators criticized the effort, including six Republicans: Thom Tillis of North Carolina, Susan Collins of Maine, Alan Armstrong of Oklahoma, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky and John Cornyn of Texas.

Democratic Sens. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire, Dick Durbin of Illinois, Sheldon Whitehouse and Jack Reed of Rhode Island and Chris Coons of Delaware also signed on to the letter.

The senators wrote that although Americans support ending the Russia-Ukraine war, a brokered peace “must be on just terms,” and uphold “democratic values, the sovereignty and security of Ukraine, and their people’s right to choose their future.”

The deal struck with Putin, the senators wrote, “will not achieve just ends, nor will it benefit Americans.”

The senators acknowledged the “urgent need” to lower energy costs for Americans. But they said allowing Russian diesel to be sold on global markets “will offer limited to no relief to Americans” and would have a “negligible impact on fuel prices,” while the revenues the Kremlin would receive would “undoubtedly finance its desired war of attrition and advance its security cooperation with China, Iran, and North Korea.”

Congress approved a Russian sanctions package just last month, which Mr. Trump signed into law. The senators noted that the law granted the president “authorities to broker a just and fair peace,” arguing that those authorities “require you to apply economic pressure on Russia” and “thereby enhance your negotiating position to bring a swift end to this ruinous conflict.”

“For decades, America has stood as the bastion of freedom against tyranny, and American presidents have embodied our nation’s resistance to tyrants,” they wrote, urging the president to withdraw from the agreement, rescind the Treasury Department’s move to waive sanctions, and execute the authorities under the Russia sanctions legislation. “Maintain our legacy — and the duty America holds — as leader of the free world.”

Democratic lawmakers erupted online on Monday after news that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) had raided the Washington-area home of Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., blasting the development as an effort by President Donald Trump to intimidate a longtime political adversary.

“The Trump administration’s raid on Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s home is deeply disturbing and raises serious questions about the continued corrupt weaponization of the federal government against Donald Trump’s adversaries,” U.S. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., wrote in a statement.

The Justice Department confirmed that agents of Homeland Security Investigations, ICE’s investigative arm, executed a court-authorized search warrant as part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation. Two sources close to the investigation say the search stems from a criminal fraud investigation into the Somali-born congresswoman’s immigration paperwork, which was filled out by her late father when she was a child.

The Minnesota Democrat has repeatedly denied allegations of immigration fraud and claims that she is in the country unlawfully.

To Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a fellow member of the progressive group known as the “Squad,” the development is a clearly personal one.

“Donald Trump has been obsessed with Rep. Omar. He has gone after her repeatedly, causing her severe harm and going after the entire Somali American population,” Jayapal said, referencing Trump’s wariness of Somali fraud rings in Minnesota that became a national focus earlier this year.

“This is his way of bullying his way back into power. This is what authoritarians do,” Jayapal added.

Democrats online similarly observed the immigration-related focus of the raid, affirming Omar’s status as a citizen of the U.S.

“This raid on Rep. Omar’s home is an outrageous abuse of power by ICE. Rep. Omar has been a U.S. citizen for 26 years. She came to the United States as a child and was legally admitted as a refugee,” Rep. Ted Lieu, D-Calif., wrote.

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., echoed Lieu.

“Ilhan Omar came to America legally as a child refugee fleeing civil war, became a citizen and was elected to Congress. Trump is weaponizing the federal government to silence opposition,” Sanders said in a post to X.

But Republicans pointed out that the public hasn’t had an opportunity to review the details of Omar’s naturalization paperwork either — something that Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., said she had wanted to see for herself but was blocked from using congressional authority to secure.

“I tried to subpoena Ilhan Omar and her brother-husband’s immigration records. Both parties blocked it in Oversight,” Mace wrote, referring to the powerful oversight committee, the body of lawmakers charged with ensuring the government lawfully carries out its duties. “If the fraud is proven, she should be denaturalized and deported home to Somalia.”

Omar has faced long-standing political pressure stemming from her previous marriage to Ahmed Nur Said Elmi in 2009, a marriage that critics claim was to her biological brother in order to commit immigration fraud. Omar has denied that Elmi is her brother, and no charges related to that marriage have been brought against her. Omar and Elmi divorced in 2017.

Additionally, Mace pointed out that accusations of politically motivated investigations mirror the raid on Trump’s personal residence in Florida in 2022.

“All those who celebrated the raid of Mar-a-Lago don’t get to cry over the raid at Ilhan Omar’s home. Trump’s political enemy raided his home. Democrats set the precedent,” she added.

Other Republicans, like Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., argued that the moment has highlighted the need to especially scrutinize the citizenship credentials of lawmakers before they arrive in office — calls shared by other fellow members.

“If these allegations are true, then it needs to be dealt with legally. But ultimately, this is exactly why myself, members like Kat Cammack and Randy Fine have pushed for there to be a disclosure at least for people to know whether members of Congress are dual citizens,” Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., said in an interview with Fox News.

    Rep. Randy Fine, R-Fla., agreed.

“If Ilhan Omar lied on her immigration paperwork, she should be denaturalized and deported — the same as anyone else. No more special treatment,” Fine said.

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, R-Minn., didn’t speculate as to why the ICE raid had taken place, but quickly affirmed his view that even lawmakers could be subject to scrutiny.

“Nobody is above the law. HSI just executed a search warrant at Ilhan Omar’s Washington, D.C. home. We look forward to learning more details about this raid and investigation. ACCOUNTABILITY IS COMING!” Emmer wrote.

Notably, U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., as of Tuesday morning, had not issued a statement on the raid on Omar’s residence. Neither had Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.

Republicans in Congress have investigated Omar in the past, evaluating her net worth and the business ties of her husband, Tim Mynett.

“Trump is grossly abusing his power to raid the home of Rep. Omar,” Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., a fellow member of the progressive group called the “Squad,” said in a post to X on Monday.

“He has repeatedly attacked her, Somali Americans and Minnesotans. Omar has done nothing to justify a pre-dawn raid ahead of the election. I stand with my sister always.”

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., another “Squad” member, agreed in a post of her own.

“For years, the Trump admin has launched slanderous attacks against Rep. Omar. This morning, the administration sent federal officials to raid her home. We cannot and will not accept this unprecedented abuse of power,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote.

“Trump and his DOJ have a bizarre obsession with tearing down Minnesota, our leaders and our communities. This latest action, even as voting has already started in Minnesota, is a transparent attempt to interfere in our election,” Sen. Tina Smith, D-Minn., said.

The raid comes less than a month before the Nov. 3 midterm elections. According to the Minnesota secretary of state website, absentee voting by mail and in person began Sept. 18, while the state’s new early voting process, which allows voters to cast ballots directly into voting machines, begins Friday.

Judge blocks Trump administration from cutting down trees at D.C. golf course for 2 weeks

    October 13, 2026 / 2:46 PM EDT / CBS News

Washington— A federal judge on Tuesday barred the Trump administration from removing trees at East Potomac Golf Links in Washington, D.C., for another two weeks after hundreds of trees were felled at the historic public course over the weekend.

U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes said in a brief order that the Department of the Interior and National Park Service may not cut down any further trees at East Potomac through Oct. 26. She also said that through that date, the Trump administration must provide the court and plaintiffs, the D.C. Preservation League and two local golfers, with three business days’ notice before “making any irreparable modification to any permanent form or feature” of the course.

Reyes said the D.C. Preservation League and golfers will likely be harmed without relief. The plaintiffs are challenging President Trump’s planned overhaul of East Potomac.

“The administration has time and again tried to avoid the law in their mad rush toward converting a public recreation space to a high-end golf course and today’s order will stop them from doing further irreparable harm to a precious public resource,” lawyers for the D.C. Preservation League and two residents said. “We are pleased that the court intervened and will prevent additional work while we seek more lasting relief.”

The brief order comes after the judge fiercely chastised the Justice Department during a nearly four-hour-long hearing Monday. She called the hearing after learning Friday afternoon that the National Park Service planned to remove an estimated 529 trees at East Potomac golf course as part of a “tree management and cultural landscape rehabilitation project.”

Felled trees are visible on East Potomac Golf Course on Oct. 10, 2026, in Washington, D.C. Aaron Schwartz / Getty Images

The D.C. Preservation League then told the court in a filing Sunday that the crew had cut down all 529 trees on Saturday alone, including “healthy, mature oaks and maples,” and had planned to remove “hundreds” more “imminently,” but rain impacted the work.

A Justice Department lawyer, Marissa Piropato, told Reyes that 430 trees in total were felled. Another roughly 99 have been identified for removal, she said.

For months, Reyes had reiterated to the government that it must provide advance notice to the plaintiffs and the court of plans to conduct any construction or similar activity at East Potomac, allowing her the opportunity to review that action and, if warranted, issue an order.

But the Justice Department did not submit a filing about the planned tree removals until just before 5 p.m. Friday.

“You did not do your best. You did your absolute worst,” Reyes told Piropato of the Justice Department’s efforts to notify the court and plaintiffs of the planned tree removals.

The judge told Piropato and other government lawyers that they “lost credibility.”

She ordered Kevin Griess, superintendent of the National Mall and Memorial Parks, and Frank Lands, deputy director of operations for the National Park Service, to testify about what led to the felling of the 430 trees at the course and who gave the go-ahead for the removals to take place Saturday.

Reyes scheduled another hearing for Oct. 19 and ordered Jessica Bowron, acting director of the National Park Service, and Gregory Wischer, deputy chief of staff at the Interior Department, to appear.

我不会被 silenced(噤声)。”

Reactions immediately started pouring in after federal authorities raided the Washington, D.C., home of Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., with many on social media pointing to a previous claim from Omar that “no one” is above the law.

Omar’s home was raided by agents with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) investigation unit in the early Monday morning hours, Fox News Digital first reported, in a search that stems from a criminal fraud investigation into the Somali-born congresswoman’s immigration paperwork, which was filled out by her late father when she was a child.

Omar has been under fire for months and faced a myriad of controversies during her time in Congress, most recently, her financial disclosures have come into focus, and questions have been raised by top officials about her path to citizenship as well.

Many on social media were quick to point to a previous comment from Omar where she declared that “no one is above the law” after Trump was indicted in a hush money case that conservatives argued was based on flimsy evidence and a political prosecution.

The White House has asked Kimberly Guilfoyle to resign as U.S. ambassador to Greece amid mounting allegations involving her financial dealings, treatment of embassy staff and relationships with foreign business interests.

“We have asked Ambassador Guilfoyle to resign. She has been a wonderful asset to the team, and we wish her well,” White House press secretary Katie Zacharia announced Tuesday during her first-ever briefing to the press.

It is not clear whether Guilfoyle lodged her official resignation, and when asked for clarity, the White House referred Fox News Digital to the remarks from the briefing.

The update from Zacharia came just one day after President Donald Trump publicly acknowledged that he was considering firing Guilfoyle, who was previously engaged to his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr.

“Well, we’re looking at it,” Trump told reporters Monday when asked whether he was considering removing Guilfoyle. “We’re not happy.”

Guilfoyle came under scrutiny last week after The Wall Street Journal reported that she asked Trump donor Eric Deters to pay off a $100,000 American Express bill shortly before her Senate confirmation hearing in July 2025.

According to messages reviewed by the Journal, Guilfoyle urged Deters to wire the money directly to American Express, saying the transaction would not leave a paper trail, while offering to help him gain access to senior Trump administration officials. Deters said he never made the payment.

Guilfoyle’s attorney, Jesse Binnall, disputed the authenticity of the messages, saying Guilfoyle had been paid to speak at events before her nomination and “was owed a balance for traveling to and supporting these patriotic events.”

The allegations followed an earlier Journal investigation into Guilfoyle’s conduct in Greece, including claims that she promoted the interests of Greek construction and energy company Aktor Group and allowed its registered lobbyist, Christos Marafatsos, to accompany her to private diplomatic meetings with senior officials.

The Journal also reported that Guilfoyle suggested at a dinner with Greek officials that the U.S. would undermine their government, citing political developments in Romania. Greece’s foreign minister subsequently said there was no need to summon Guilfoyle for an explanation because the country’s energy minister denied that any threat had been made.

Separately, the State Department’s Office of Inspector General reportedly opened an investigation into allegations involving Guilfoyle’s treatment of embassy employees, private travel, acceptance of gifts and relationships with business interests, according to the Daily Mail.

HOUSE DEMOCRAT INVESTIGATED OVER ALLEGED ‘INAPPROPRIATE SEXUAL CONTACT’ WITH STAFFER

Sources described a hostile workplace in which Guilfoyle allegedly threatened to fire employees. They also claimed that she demoted members of her security detail over minor incidents, including an officer who reportedly failed to answer a 4 a.m. request for ice while she was vacationing in Mykonos.

The inspector general’s office declined to confirm or deny the existence of an investigation. Binnall told the Daily Mail that “any implication of wrongdoing by the Ambassador is unsupported.”

The allegations drew scrutiny from congressional Democrats, including Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., and Rep. Gregory Meeks, D-N.Y., who called for a review of Guilfoyle’s conduct. Meeks urged her removal if the allegations were substantiated.

Vice President JD Vance addressed the controversy Friday, cautioning against rushing to judgment while acknowledging that misconduct should carry consequences.

“Let’s actually see what the facts are. Let’s see what the truth is,” Vance told reporters in Ohio. “And obviously, if there was something bad that happened, then people have to suffer consequences for it.”

Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who visited Greece last week and delivered remarks against the backdrop of the Acropolis, initially defended Guilfoyle’s performance.

“Our ambassador has been a strong ambassador here,” Rubio told reporters Wednesday.

A day later, Rubio declined to address the allegations directly, challenging reporters over their reliance on unnamed sources.

“You guys walk around thinking that because some source told you something, and you reported it, it’s the gospel. It’s not the gospel,” Rubio told reporters Thursday.

President Donald Trump hired U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle after her engagement to his eldest son fell through and now, after Donald Trump Jr. has married, his administration might be forced to fire her.(Bloomberg via Getty Images)

Trump nominated Guilfoyle to the diplomatic post in December 2024. A former California prosecutor and longtime Trump ally, she previously served as a prominent surrogate and fundraiser for the president.

Guilfoyle was engaged to Donald Trump Jr. for four years before the couple publicly split in December 2024, the same month Trump nominated her to serve as ambassador to Greece.

The president’s eldest son married Palm Beach socialite Bettina Anderson in May 2026.
