这场开放式车轮赛事的赛车将以接近200英里每小时的速度驶过华盛顿各纪念地标，是特朗普今年为纪念美国建国250周年举办的最新庆祝活动之一。
赛事开始前的庆祝环节包括：特朗普总统喜爱的男高音歌手克里斯托弗·马基奥演唱《星条旗》，以及由B-2隐形轰炸机、卡塔尔赠送的空军一号专机和四架护航战斗机组成的军机飞越表演。

特朗普在第二任总统任期内，愈发热衷于享受总统职位的礼仪性职责，其中包括频繁出席体育赛事——上月他就现身世界杯决赛，为冠军西班牙队颁发奖杯，并与队员们一同站在舞台上，接受漫天彩纸的庆祝。
印地赛车系列赛主办方罗杰·彭斯克是特朗普的长期好友，2019年曾获特朗普颁发的总统自由勋章，他牵头推动将这项赛事引入华盛顿。
特朗普周日接受福克斯新闻采访时表示，彭斯克此前告诉他，自己为将赛事带到华盛顿已经努力了20年。
“他来找特朗普之后，这事15分钟就办成了，最终的规模比我们当初预想的还要大得多，”总统以第三人称自称。

特朗普今年早些时候为“自由250大奖赛”签署的行政令称，“赛车与车手令所有观看这项典型美国运动的观众心生敬畏与尊重”，此次赛事将“展示我们伟大城市的壮美，车手们将环绕标志性国家纪念地标行驶赛道，以此庆祝美国建国250周年”。
印地赛车系列赛是全球顶级开放式车轮赛事之一，全球知名度与影响力仅次于一级方程式赛车。该系列赛属于最快的赛车赛事类别之一，赛车时速可达230英里。其顶级赛事为印第安纳波利斯500英里大赛，也是赛车运动“三冠王”的三项赛事之一。

President Trump and first lady Melania Trump began the Freedom 250 Grand Prix IndyCar race through the streets of Washington, D.C., with a slow lap around the course.
Then the president kicked off the race, waving the green flag as drivers began whipping through the capital city’s downtown, including a stretch along Pennsylvania Avenue not too far from the White House.

The open-wheel race, with cars whizzing past Washington’s monuments at speeds approaching 200 mph, is the latest of Mr. Trump’s celebrations this year to mark America’s 250th birthday.
The celebrations ahead of the race included a performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner” by tenor Christopher Macchio, a favorite singer of the president, and a military aircraft flyover featuring a B-2 stealth bomber and the Qatar-gifted Air Force One, escorted by four fighter jets.

Mr. Trump in his second term has increasingly seemed to focus on relishing the presidency’s ceremonial aspects. That’s included a healthy dose of visits to sporting events — including an appearance last month at the World Cup final, where he presented the trophy to winner Spain and lingered onstage with the team as its members jumped in a hail of confetti.
IndyCar series owner Roger Penske, a longtime friend of Mr. Trump’s who received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from him in 2019, helped lead the effort to bring the race to Washington.
Mr. Trump told Fox on Sunday that Penske told him that he had been trying to bring the race to Washington for 20 years.
“When he came to see Trump, it got done in about 15 minutes, and it’s turned out to be much bigger than we ever even thought possible,” the president said, referring to himself in the third person.

An executive order Mr. Trump signed earlier this year calling for the Freedom 250 Grand Prix declared that the “cars and drivers inspire awe and respect in all who watch this quintessentially American sport,” and the event will “showcase the majesty of our great city as drivers navigate a track around our iconic national monuments in celebration of America’s 250th birthday.”
IndyCar is one of the world’s leading open-wheel racing series, generally regarded as second only to Formula 1 in global popularity and prestige. The series is among the fastest racing categories, with cars capable of reaching 230 mph. Its premier event is the Indianapolis 500, one of three races that constitute the “triple crown of motorsport.”
