In a series of sweeping nationwide operations, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents on Thursday arrested some of the “worst of the worst” criminal illegal aliens convicted of heinous crimes.

Among those captured was Jose Solorzano-Felix, of Mexico, who was apprehended in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Solorzano-Felix was previously convicted for the attempted murder of a federal law enforcement officer, use of a firearm during and in the commission of a felony, and being an illegal immigrant in possession of a handgun.

In Santa Clara, California, ICE agents took Paulino Lugos-Perez, an illegal immigrant from Mexico, into custody following his conviction for lewd or lascivious acts with a child.

Meanwhile, in Forsyth County, North Carolina, authorities arrested Adrian Valdez-Lopez, a Mexican national convicted of second-degree forcible rape.

The crackdown also targeted violent gang affiliates, resulting in the Pasadena, California, arrest of Edgar Josue Centeno, a Honduran national and member of the Latin Kings gang convicted of assault with a deadly weapon.

In Mineola, New York, agents arrested Rodolfo Umana, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador who had been convicted of burglary.

“Yesterday, the brave men and women of ICE risked their lives to arrest illegal criminal aliens convicted for attempted murder of a federal law enforcement officer, lewd or lascivious acts with a child, rape, assault with a deadly weapon, and burglary,” Department of Homeland Security (DHS) acting assistant Secretary Lauren Bis wrote in a statement.

The arrests represent a targeted effort to remove dangerous illegal immigrants from the country, with Bis emphasizing that under President Donald Trump and DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin, “ICE will continue to arrest and remove these public safety threats from our communities.”

DHS said nearly 70% of ICE arrests are those of illegal immigrants who have already been charged or convicted of a crime in the U.S.

“Thanks to our ICE law enforcement, our communities are safer,” Bis wrote.

Attorney says detainees witnessed ICE officer shoot Houston driver through passenger window

Three men inside a van who witnessed the fatal shooting of the driver, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, by an immigration officer in Houston said the Mexican man was shot through a passenger window and that the officer was never threatened, a lawyer who has spoken with them said Friday.

“They confirmed that at no point was an ICE agent directly in front of the vehicle,” attorney Hugo Balderas-Ibarra said during a news conference. “They also confirmed the shots came from the side, not from the front.”

The Department of Homeland Security, which oversees Immigration and Customs Enforcement, has released no evidence to support the officer’s story that Salgado Araujo ignored their commands and rammed into an ICE vehicle with his white van on Tuesday, or that the officer fired in self-defense. DHS said in a statement Thursday that ICE officers were looking for a different person when they stopped Salgado Araujo’s vehicle.

Texas Rep. Sylvia Garcia, whose district includes the Houston neighborhood where the shooting occurred, has said the acting director of ICE told her officers thought someone in the van, but not Salgado Araujo, had a final order of removal but did not share a name.

“After receiving a credible tip from our law enforcement partners, our officers conducted surveillance on a target’s address. Weeks prior to the incident, they noted two white vans at the property,” DHS said in its Thursday statement. “On July 7, officers were almost at the target’s address when they observed a white van with an individual who resembled the target. Officers then initiated the vehicle stop.”

DHS initially said Tuesday that ICE officers were targeting Salgado Araujo because he was living in the country without legal permission.

The department alleged he was shot after he ignored “multiple verbal commands” and attempted to ram an officer who fired his weapon in self-defense. Houston firefighters said Salgado Araujo was struck in the abdomen, and then his car hit an ICE vehicle.

He was taken to the hospital but died of his injuries, according to DHS.

The officers were not wearing body cameras, and neither ICE nor DHS has released photos, videos or other evidence from the scene. DHS has said officers in that field office were not yet equipped with body cameras “due to back-to-back Democrat shutdowns.”

Salgado Araujo was a 52-year-old homebuilder who was shot and killed as he was driving his crew to a construction site. His family said he had lived in the U.S. for more than 35 years, had no criminal record and was close to finishing the long process of obtaining legal status when he was killed.

ICE detained the other three men in the van and they all told a lawyer that no officer was in front of the van or even in danger.

“After speaking with these men, I have no doubt that what they’re saying is the truth. I know that these agents — the agency — is going to try to cover it up,” Balderas-Ibarra said.

Images of the van after the shooting appear to show no damage, he said.

ICE has not released the names of the detained men, but family members said they have been able to briefly talk with them. Salgado Araujo’s brother was among those arrested.

Garcia said at the same news conference it was not surprising that Salgado Araujo drove off when ICE tried to stop his vehicle, given that their vehicles were unmarked and had no lights.

“What would you do if you were being followed by someone and the cars were unmarked?” Garcia said.

Salgado Araujo was at least the eighth person to die during the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement campaign. No immigration officers have been charged in the killings, and video footage in several previous shootings has contradicted the accounts of federal officers.

The detained men claim ICE is pressuring them to self-deport

ICE is pressuring the men to self-deport, which would make it harder for them to share their version of events with investigators or others, said Juana Degollado, who said her stepfather, Daniel Tirado Pantoja, is among the detained men. She said he has no legal permission to live in the U.S. but has no criminal record.

“It is extremely important that we preserve the integrity of this investigation,” Balderas-Ibarra said. “That will all be out the window if they are deported.”

Balderas-Ibarra said the main goal is to secure the men’s release from ICE custody, but he’s concerned the men will be pressured into signing documents that will have them deported.

An ICE spokesperson told CBS News in a statement that “it is categorically false we would pressure someone to self-deport.”

DHS said Thursday that officers investigating a tip weeks earlier saw two white vans at the address of a target. While heading to that address on Tuesday, officers saw a white van and someone inside who resembled the person they were looking for, the department said in a statement.

“No one in that van had warrants or any legal problem,” Degollado told The Associated Press in a text message.

DHS won’t release officer’s name or other information

DHS said it will not release the officer’s name because they could face threats and violence and their family could be at risk.

DHS also has not responded to requests for other information, including how long the officer has worked for ICE or whether anyone involved in the shooting is on administrative leave.

Unlike some previous deaths involving federal immigration officers, few photos or videos surrounding the shooting have emerged publicly in the days since Salgado Araujo’s death.

The League of United Latin American Citizens offered a $5,000 reward for video or other evidence, but the positions of the vehicles mean surveillance cameras in the area were blocked from recording the shooting, CEO Juan Proaño said.

Local prosecutors are talking to witnesses

Local prosecutors were not invited into the investigation by federal officials but have spent the past three days in the Houston neighborhood looking for surveillance footage and talking to witnesses, Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare said.

Teare said anyone with video or other information must share it with his office so the truth about the shooting can be determined.

“We will go to the ends of the Earth to collect all the evidence, so that we can eventually let the public know what happened,” Teare said.

The FBI is tightly controlling the evidence in the case, but Houston Mayor John Whitmire said he wants a local independent investigation and the police chief will meet with federal investigators next week to see what can be done.

“We recognize that it is a federal police agency that was out of control Tuesday morning,” Whitmire said.

Houston police do not work with ICE and the mayor said he found out about the shooting from the media.

Salgado Araujo’s family said they found out he was dead through the ICE statement instead of directly from the agency. Garcia said officers kept his belongings and sent him to the hospital where he died without including his name.

Several killed in small plane crash in the Bahamas, officials say

A small plane crashed in the Bahamas on Friday, killing several people and prompting the government to temporarily ground Flamingo Air flights.

The deadly incident happened in North Andros, located in waters just west of Nassau, the archipelago’s capital.

Officials have not released details on those who were aboard or their conditions. Ten people were set to be on the flight, which departed from Nassau and crashed in Andros Island, according to a flight manifest obtained by CBS News.

While officials have not released a list of names, the manifest shows that members of the “Da Pond Band” — a musical group — were set to be on board, according to an aviation source.

Bahamian Prime Minister Philip Brave Davis had initially said that one person survived, but he later confirmed in a press conference that the person died from their injuries.

“We gather beneath a cloud of great sorrow,” he said, noting that people were celebrating the Bahamas’ 53rd independence anniversary. “It has become a day of mourning. … To every family that has received the devastating news, that someone they love will not be coming home, we offer our deepest condolences.”

The Bahamian Aircraft Accident Investigation Authority said in a statement that the plane had departed Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau and was headed to San Andros when it crashed. It identified the plane as a Cessna 402 aircraft registered in the Bahamas.

The Ministry of Energy, Utilities and Aviation said in a statement that the suspension of Flamingo Air’s air operator certificate is only a precautionary safety measure as officials investigate the cause of the crash. The ministry said the suspension is a result of two safety incidents that happened Friday.

During the press conference, Energy, Utilities and Aviation Minister JoBeth Coleby-Davis said the first incident occurred earlier Friday involving a Flamingo Air plane. She said it was en route to Mayaguana when the pilot reported a concern and turned back to Nassau. After the plane landed and the passengers deboarded, the plane caught fire, she said. That incident also is under investigation.

Political watchers expected this fall’s Maine Senate contest to emerge as the main event in the midterms as Democrats try to unseat five-term Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine).

Again.

It is said that as Maine goes, so goes the nation. And this year, Maine could dictate how the Senate goes. But Democrats are facing trouble in the Pine Tree State.

Progressives thought they discovered a pearl of a candidate in waterman Graham Platner and his oyster enterprise.

But the party has now shucked Platner and is diving to find a replacement by July 27th.

For Democrats, defeating Collins is like the pursuit of the Great White Whale in Moby Dick. Potentially in their grasp. Yet elusive. Republicans aren’t concerned about the veteran GOPer.

“There’s a reason that she’s been a United States Senator for Maine since God was a baby,” said Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) on Fox. “People like her.”

The Democratic Party was fractured before as its “mainstream middle” scraps with progressives.

However, the Platner debacle may have underscored what made the schism worse.

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) will soon release their long-term platform. The DSA wants to eliminate the Senate. Expand the House. Pack the Supreme Court? How about having the House pick the Court instead?

The DSA pushes a 32-hour workweek without changes to pay or benefits.

And then there are older suggestions like Medicare for all and guaranteed minimum wages.

Some Democrats are asking how Platner got this far – unvetted. That’s to say nothing of some Democrats looking past his awful text messages and Nazi-themed tattoo.

All in the name of trying to defeat Collins.

“I told you so” is essentially the mantra of Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) He’s been outspoken against Platner since the start and railed against colleagues who blindly flocked to Platner.

“I’d say that the trash took itself out,” said Fetterman on Fox. “Finally, people in Maine have a chance to really vote on someone that’s not a total piece of trash.”

But Fetterman held particular contempt for a Senate colleague: the godfather of modern socialism.

“(Sen.) Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) needs to apologize to the voters of Maine and to everyone that donated to that train wreck of a campaign. More than anyone, he pushed Platner into the election. And now he keeps pushing these communists and these kind of awful anti-American people,” said Fetterman.

That’s what worries some Democrats after primary victories in New York by Democratic House nominees Claire Valdez, Darializa Avila Chevalier and Brad Lander.

Then throw in Melat Kiros. She felled 30-year veteran Rep. Diana DeGette (D-Colo.) in the primary last week.

Kiros then triggered a Colorado avalanche of controversy after an appearance with Walter Rhein on YouTube.

“One of the things that brought me into starting my PhD program was finally coming to the realization that we were never really going to be able to tackle white supremacy in the way that we need to without reparations,” said Kiros.

This is why Democrats are concerned about the party steering left.

Democrats might not need to worry about allegations of sexual assault, texts and tattoos like they did with Platner.

But they could grapple with policies pushed by other Democratic Socialists.

Abdul El-Sayed is seeking the Democratic nomination for Senate in Michigan against Rep. Haley Stevens (D-Mich.). Sen. Gary Peters (D-Mich.) is retiring.

Who knows what awaits Democrats in Maine, post-Platner.

But Democrats must retain Michigan if they have a fighting chance to seize control of the Senate.

“You can’t retrain ICE. You have to abolish ICE,” said El-Sayed at a recent debate with Stevens.

He equated radicalism in Iran to MAGA. And, he declared that people in Dearborn, MI were “sad” about the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei.

Stevens, trying to run in the “middle” lane of the party, is focused on kitchen table issues.

“I will run through anyone and anything to lower costs,” said Stevens during the debate.

Democrats are torn.

“I don’t agree with everything either Haley or Abdul have said. They’re both colleagues. They’re both friends, and I’m neutral in this race. But we do have a big tent,” said Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.) on Fox.

But when pressed about progressives, Dingell replied, “I don’t think that the DSA is painting us into the corners.”

Political observers note that candidates like El-Sayed energize the party. But what does that mean in the general election?

“I think it is a great test case because I think El-Sayed is going to win that nomination. And I think with it, he brings a tremendous amount of enthusiasm, again from Democrats. The question is will he be able to appeal to independents? And that remains to be seen,” said University of Akron political scientist David Cohen.

So here’s the Senate map for Democrats.

Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) is retiring. Democrats hope to flip the Tar Heel State with former North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper (D) against former Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Whatley.

In the Buckeye State, former Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) is mounting a comeback after losing to Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio) less than two years ago.

He’s up against appointed Sen. Jon Husted (R-Ohio), who succeeded Vice President JD Vance.

“There’s a lot of money flowing into this state. Both Republicans and Democrats realize that Ohio is one of the keys to either Republicans holding the Senate or Democrats flipping it,” said Cohen.

Iowa used to be a swing state. Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) is retiring after two terms. But the Hawkeye State is shaping up as a battleground as Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-Iowa) faces Democrat Josh Turek.

The Democrats’ last hope is to capture the Last Frontier: Alaska. Former Rep. Mary Peltola (D-Alaska.) is up against Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska.)

Democrats must also cling to Georgia as Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) faces Rep. Mike Collins (R-Ga.)

And just like Michigan and Georgia are for the Democrats, it’s “hold ‘em” in Texas after Republican Ken Paxton defeated Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) in the primary.

Winning the Lone Star State may be a long shot for Democrats.

It seems that way each cycle. However, Democrats have made it relatively close for years now.

But Cohen says Democrats might win – despite losing.

“Even if Democrats come up short in Texas, Texas will have served a huge purpose in driving a lot of those resources to that state when they could have maybe spent more money in places like Ohio or Michigan or North Carolina or Georgia,” said Cohen.

But Democrats must now devote time to figuring out what the progressive pull means for them. Especially after the Maine implosion. Republicans believe the Democrats are their own worst enemy.

“Our secret plan all along has been let them speak. Let Graham Platner speak. Let Dr. Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan speak,” said John Kennedy. “A reckoning is coming for the Democratic Party.”

It may have already come for Democrats in Maine.

And if this is the “secret plan” by Republicans, it’s not so secret. Democrats already understand their problem all too well.

官方再拨8000万元人民币支持广西救灾

中国广西多地遭遇严重洪涝，官方再次预拨8000万元（人民币，下同，约1520万新元）救灾资金，支持广西受灾群众救助工作。

据中国央视新闻客户端消息，受持续强降雨影响，广西灾情进一步发展，国家防灾减灾救灾委员会将广西救灾应急响应由四级提升至三级。

在7月6日预拨1.1亿元基础上，中国财政部、应急管理部星期五（7月10日）再次紧急预拨8000万元中央自然灾害救灾资金，支持广西重点做好受灾群众转移安置、过渡期生活救助以及倒损民房修复等工作。

财政部要求广西财政厅抓紧将资金拨付灾区，发挥好预拨资金使用效益；加强救灾资金监管，杜绝资金滞留、挤占、挪用等违规行为，确保救灾资金全部用于灾区和受灾群众。

The White House confirms ongoing diplomatic talks with Iran, despite recent military strikes and intelligence shared by Israel revealing a new Iranian plot to assassinate President Donald Trump. Banners explicitly calling for Trump’s death were displayed at the Ayatollah’s funeral, intensifying concerns. President Trump states he is ‘number one on their kill list.’

President Donald Trump said he has left behind instructions to strike Iran should Tehran succeed in its attempts to assassinate him.

“I’ve been on their list for a long time. That’s what we’re dealing with,” he told the New York Post on Friday. “… The only thing is, I’ve left instructions — if anything happens, to just literally bomb them at levels that they’ve never seen before.”

Trump said that Tehran has wanted him dead for some time, noting that there were no new plans to kill him amid recent reports that Israel flagged an Iranian plot to take him out, the newspaper reported.

“No, no, Israel came up with nothing,” Trump said. “I’ve been No. 1 [on Iran’s kill list] for a long time, and it’s the way life is, you know.”

Fox News Digital has reached out to the White House for comment.

Iran has sought Trump’s assassination after he ordered a 2020 strike that took out Iranian Gen. Qasem Soleimani. Most recently, mourners called for his death during the funeral for Iran’s former supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

“I swear by the blood of the Supreme Leader, Trump, we will kill you!” they shouted, with women holding up placards reading “Kill Trump.”

Domestically, Trump has been the target of assassination plots in the United States. In July 2024, a bullet grazed his ear when a shooter opened fire on him during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Meanwhile, tensions between Washington and Tehran continue to escalate after Trump called off a ceasefire after Iran fired on three ships in the Strait of Hormuz this week.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has asked us to continue ‘talks,’” Trump wrote Friday on Truth Social. “We have agreed to do so, but the United States has stated to them, in no uncertain terms, that the Cease Fire is OVER! Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

Trump noted Iran’s ambitions to target him during a press conference this week at the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey.

“They had leaders, they’re gone. Then they had another set of leaders, they’re gone,” he said. “Now they have another set of leaders — they may be gone, who knows? And you know what? I may be gone too. Because I’m their No. 1 target — it’s out all over the place. Because they’re scum.”

Charlie Kirk’s family cites “overwhelming evidence” against activist’s alleged killer as preliminary hearing ends

The family of Charlie Kirk said Friday that they believe the prosecution has presented “overwhelming evidence” to show alleged shooter Tyler Robinson killed the conservative activist as he addressed students at Utah Valley University in September 2025.

The family statement comes after a weeklong preliminary hearing. Utah State District Judge Tony Graf will now decide if prosecutors have enough evidence to put Robinson on trial on a charge of aggravated murder.

“The conclusion of the preliminary hearing marks an important step forward in the pursuit of justice for Charlie,” the Kirk family said in a statement, describing the proceedings as “unimaginably painful and emotionally demanding.” The Kirk family did not speak after the hearings ended.

“As difficult as these last few days have been, it brings our family comfort to know that the world has witnessed the overwhelming evidence of what occurred to Charlie that day,” the statement said. “Nothing will ever undo the loss of our beloved Charlie. As this case moves into its next phase, we pray that truth will continue to be heard through a process that is fair, transparent, and grounded in the facts.”

Shortly after the hearing ended, Kirk’s widow Erika submitted a court filing asking Graf to make a determination by Sept. 1. Graf has scheduled four hours of further oral arguments for that date and is expected to make his decision afterward.

Robinson has not entered a plea and did not testify during the preliminary hearing. He turned himself in a day after the fatal shooting of Kirk, a close ally of President Trump credited with helping galvanize young voters for Republicans in the 2024 election.

During the preliminary hearing Thursday, prosecutors aired portions of a recorded interview with Robinson’s former roommate, Lance Twiggs. The two were romantic partners at the time of the shooting, and Robinson allegedly confessed to the shooting in messages to Twiggs, prosecutors say.

In the recorded interview, Twiggs told a Utah prosecutor that Robinson allegedly said he wished “he hadn’t done it,” referring to the shooting. Robinson was also acting erratically, Twiggs said, and shared his plans to turn himself in.

Defense questions DNA evidence

Lawyers for Robinson redoubled their efforts to raise doubts about DNA evidence that authorities said links him to the suspected murder weapon.

One of Robinson’s attorneys, Michael Burt, has repeatedly questioned the reliability of DNA tests cited by prosecutors during this week’s preliminary hearing. Investigators said the tests linked Robinson to evidence including a rifle found near where Kirk was shot, ammunition and a tool he allegedly used to etch messages onto bullet cartridges.

Burt used testimony Friday from a government DNA analyst to highlight the limitations of such tests. He noted that government policies don’t allow analysts to say that DNA evidence is “infallible” or that it has a “zero error rate.” He also indicated it’s possible for DNA to be transported by a third party. He also emphasized that multiple samples of DNA were found on the rifle.

“If you had a lot of DNA on your hand, we shook hands and I went to pick up an exhibit, a gun, and I touched the trigger of it, your DNA could be on that trigger, right?” Burt asked Caitlin Oliver, a forensic biologist with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

“It is possible. Yes,” Oliver replied.

Experts say the science behind DNA testing is sound.

Before Oliver testified, Deputy Utah County Attorney Chad Grunander questioned the relevance of bringing her on as a witness. He suggested prosecutors already had met the burden of proof needed to advance the case to trial.

“Your honor’s heard four days of testimony now. The evidence is overwhelming. It’s devastating,” Grunander said.

On Thursday, Robinson’s team questioned ballistics tests on a bullet fragment recovered from Kirk’s body. Authorities sought to tie the fragment to the suspected murder weapon, but the results were inconclusive.

“Saying anything but inconclusive was inappropriate,” said Samantha Karner with the ATF.

Kirk family has emotional response to enhanced video

At the request of Kirk’s family, Graf said he would allow an altered version of campus surveillance video that prosecutors said shows Robinson crawling out to a rooftop “sniper’s perch” before shooting Kirk to be shown inside the courtroom.

The unaltered video was previously shown. The altered version includes recorded material that zooms in on a figure that prosecutors said was Robinson and red marks that were added to the video.

The video was not shown on the broadcast stream camera, but CBS News correspondent Carter Evans reported that the footage showed Robinson arriving on campus at UVU, assessing the scene, climbing up the building, and crawling to the edge of the roof where the shot that killed Kirk was fired from. Erika Kirk and Kathryn Kirk, the mother of Charlie Kirk, both looked away from the video and cried as the footage showed Robinson climbing the building.

Robinson himself would watch the video briefly, then look away. He twirled a pen as the footage was shown.

会议还称，国家防总要强化统筹协调和指挥调度，各相关部门要主动靠前、密切配合，各级政府要加强应急值守，做好力量、装备、物资准备，快速高效开展抢险救援、生活救助等工作，全力以赴维护群众生命财产安全。
