War Secretary Pete Hegseth urged Congress Thursday to approve at least $350 billion in defense funding while pushing back against efforts to impeach him.

In a video posted to X, Hegseth defended his Pentagon overhaul, including eliminating DEI initiatives, removing military leaders and rebuilding recruitment.

“We need every vote from every patriotic member of Congress,” Hegseth said, calling for a reconciliation bill of at least $350 billion to strengthen the military and defense industrial base.

The impeachment effort is being led by Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., who introduced eight articles against Hegseth in September, accusing him of violating congressional war powers during the Iran conflict and abusing his authority in other military operations.

Massie, who lost his Republican primary in May, plans to renew the effort when Congress returns next week. The House has not voted on the articles.

Trump defended Hegseth on Thursday, telling ABC News he intends to keep him in his Cabinet despite the impeachment push.

Hegseth dismissed the effort as politically motivated.

“A disgruntled, defeated congressman along with all his Democrat allies, has also dropped sham articles of impeachment against yours truly,” Hegseth said.

He also took aim at former President Joe Biden and former Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, accusing them of leaving the Pentagon in disarray and forcing the Trump administration to rebuild the military.

“We ended the weird and the woke and elevated patriots in strength,” Hegseth said, defending his efforts to eliminate diversity initiatives and change military personnel policies.

Hegseth also defended the administration’s military operations against Iran, describing the campaign as a historic effort to prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

The war secretary closed with a message to troops amid the political fight in Washington.

Judges appear open to Trump’s push to overturn hush money conviction

Two years into his second term, President Donald Trump is still trying to wipe his [2024 felony conviction] from the books. A panel of New York appellate justices on Thursday heard Trump’s legal challenges to his conviction on falsifying business records to cover up hush money payments to influence the 2016 presidential election.

The five justices – who were all appointed by Democratic governors – at times appeared open to Trump’s arguments that federal election law and presidential immunity could affect the conviction.

His lawyers argued the conviction tied to the reimbursement of hush money payments to Stormy Daniels should be overturned based in part on the argument that federal election law preempts state law.

Trump’s legal team also says the trial judge ran afoul of the Supreme Court’s 2024 decision on presidential immunity by allowing testimony of White House officials and Trump’s tweets – official conduct – to be used as evidence in a criminal case involving unofficial acts.

Trump was convicted on 34 counts of falsifying business records with the intent to commit or conceal another crime.

At trial, prosecutors with the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office said that crime was to promote or prevent an election through unlawful means, which could include violations of the Federal Election Campaign Act (FECA), falsifying bank records, or tax crimes.

“For purposes of the underlying election law conspiracy, the point is that (Trump) and his co-conspirators were really indifferent to the legality of what they were doing. They wanted to hide what they were doing, and to make these hush money payments without anybody finding out,” Steven Wu, Chief of Appeals for the DA’s office, said Thursday.

The FECA violations were the most obvious ground for conviction, prosecutors said at trial, but Trump’s attorney Robert Giuffra told the appellate panel it’s actually “the most obvious ground for reversal.”

“And the law is quite clear,” he said. “The Department of Justice and the Federal Election Campaign Commission have exclusive jurisdiction to regulate and enforce contribution and expenditure violations.”

A jury of 12 New Yorkers found Trump guilty on all counts, making him a felon. Trump was reelected president,and days before his inauguration the judge sentenced him to an unconditional release.

The panel Thursday challenged the state’s attorney on how heavily the trial team relied on the FECA violations to prove the 34 counts of falsifying business records against Trump.

“Only partially,” Wu said, adding that evidence of Trump’s FECA violations were facts for jurors to consider rather than elements of the charged crimes.

“What preemption does is prevent the state from directly enforcing a federal statute. That’s not what the prosecution was doing here,” Wu said.

Associate Justice Bahaati Pitt-Burke pressed Wu further, noting the case dealt with campaign contributions. “That’s clearly within FECA purview. What are you using to get around that?”

Wu said, “FECA is limited to direct limitations on contributions and expenditures. That comes from the cases, that comes from the regulation. But this prosecution and the statutes under which defendant were convicted are not about expenditures or contributions at all.”

“If you think about the focus of this prosecution – the fraud that was committed in the records of a New York enterprise. That is not what FECA regulates at all,” the judge added.

Giuffra leaned heavily on the federal preemption argument, but still said the appellate interpretation of the SCOTUS 2024 immunity decision could be precedent-setting.

“It could be some other president down the road,” Giuffra said. “It’s not just about President Trump – it’s about future presidents.”

Conversations with White House staffers and Trump’s tweets were both about unofficial acts and so not covered by immunity, Wu argued adding that even if the judge erroneously allowed the evidence there was plenty more to convict Trump.

They were a “drop in the bucket” in terms of evidence of Trump’s guilt, Wu argued, so any presumed error would be harmless in light of the overwhelming evidence of Trump’s guilt.

“Can there be such a thing as harmless error with regard to presidential immunity?” Justice Shlomo Hagler challenged.

The Supreme Court’s immunity ruling determined presidential tweets can be official actions because that’s how he communicates with the American people, Giuffra said.

Justice Troy Webber read from the Supreme Court decision and asked Guiffra how Trump’s discussions with former White House communications director Hope Hicks to respond to media inquiries about the payment go toward enriching Americans’ lives.

Giuifrra said the tweets relate to Trump’s fitness for office. Other presidents have had to similarly defend themselves against allegations in public statements while in office, Trump’s lawyer added.

Longtime Trump adviser and senior personal counsel Boris Epshteyn attended the proceedings as well, demonstrating the importance of the case to the president.

美国消费者新闻与商业频道（CNBC）星期四（11月5日）引述四名知情人士报道，月之暗面今年曾与多家在欧洲运营数据中心的新兴云服务供应商洽谈，寻求租用英伟达图形处理器（GPU）提供的运算能力。

其中三名消息人士透露，月之暗面主要寻求租用英伟达最新的Blackwell系列晶片。一名消息人士称，双方曾讨论租用部署在欧洲、规模达8000枚或以上Blackwell晶片的运算集群。

消息人士形容，这家中国AI实验室在争取更多算力资源方面表现得“非常积极”。

另有消息人士指出，月之暗面主要希望利用这些晶片进行AI模型推理，即向终端用户提供模型服务，但也有意获取用于训练模型的运算资源。

Noncitizen voting bans won broad support despite ‘blue wave,’ advocate says

Voters in five states overwhelmingly approved ballot measures barring noncitizens from voting, including Kansas, where Democrats scored a major Senate upset, and Alaska, where the Senate race remains uncalled.

Federal law already prohibits noncitizens from voting in federal elections, but measures approved in Kansas, Alaska, Arkansas, South Dakota and West Virginia clarify or explicitly codify citizenship requirements for voting in state and local elections, with support exceeding 60% in each state.

Election integrity advocates pointed to the results as evidence supporting President Donald Trump and Republicans’ argument that their push to require proof of citizenship for federal voter registration has “overwhelming bipartisan support.”

“I would absolutely agree that noncitizen voting bans are overwhelmingly popular,” Jason Snead, executive director of Honest Elections Project, told Fox News Digital. “They enjoy bipartisan support.”

A 2024 Gallup poll found that 83% of Americans, including 66% of Democrats, support requiring first-time voters to provide proof of citizenship when registering to vote.

The ballot measure wins also come as the conservative-majority Supreme Court prepares to consider a related dispute over whether Arizona can require proof of citizenship on its state voter registration form and remove suspected noncitizens from the rolls before an election, a ruling that could affect how states enforce citizenship requirements.

Related election measures failed in California and Arizona. California’s Proposition 39 was defeated 58.5% to 41.4%, a margin of roughly 17 percentage points; the measure would have required voter ID and additional citizenship-verification procedures.

“I would note that the unique thing there is not only that California is openly hostile to the idea of trying to prevent noncitizen voting in terms of its elected leadership, but also the left poured more than $30 million into the ballot measure campaign to defeat that,” Snead told Fox News Digital.

Snead said Arizona’s measure was broader legislation that included several provisions beyond noncitizen voting, which may have contributed to its defeat.

The victories for the measures barring noncitizens from voting follow the Trump administration and congressional Republicans’ failed efforts to pass the SAVE America Act, which would require proof of citizenship to register to vote.

The SAVE America Act also became a flashpoint in Congress, with Republicans and Democrats sparring over whether to attach it to a budget reconciliation package. Trump’s effort to tie the bill to Department of Homeland Security funding contributed to a prolonged standoff during the department’s shutdown.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune said Republicans lacked the votes to pass it, while Democrats argued it would disenfranchise eligible voters.

Hans von Spakovsky, a former member of the Federal Election Commission and senior legal fellow of Advancing American Freedom, said the Democratic Party is completely “divorced” from its voters.

Snead agreed, saying Democrats took a “90-10 issue” and turned it into a highly politicized fight.

“The left is far out of step with the American public, and they really should be answering the question, ‘Why are you opposed to something that 90% of the public is in favor of?” Snead said.

“Only citizens should vote in our elections. And if you believe, as the left claims to, in democracy, well then, we should start by making sure that we have free and fair elections that are decided only by American citizens.”

But while Spakovsky applauded the passage of the ballot measures, he warned they could prove ineffective unless states are allowed to verify voters’ citizenship.

“Look, I’m glad those states passed that referendum, but those provisions aren’t going to be much good unless states are able to do two things,” Spakovsky said.

Spakovsky pointed to Republican National Committee v. Mi Familia Vota, a case in which the Supreme Court will decide whether federal law prevents Arizona from requiring documentary proof of citizenship to register to vote in federal elections and from removing suspected noncitizens from its voter rolls.

He said the ruling could affect how effectively states can enforce citizenship requirements.

Snead said simply checking a box attesting to citizenship on a federal form has not been sufficient.

“As we have seen in a number of recent arrests by the Justice Department, with indictments going out against noncitizens, and with the failures of the automatic voter registration system in New Jersey, which added 6,600 noncitizens to the rolls, with almost 400 of them voting, we clearly have been let down by that check-a-box system,” Snead said.

However, Spakovsky said a ruling in favor of Arizona would only go so far, arguing that proof of citizenship would only apply to future voter registrations.

“The only way for them to try to check the citizenship of people who are already registered is by using the SAVE database at the Department of Homeland Security, and with complete control of Congress, I have no doubt that one of the first things Democrats will do is try to defund the database so that states can’t use it,” Spakovsky said.

Snead applauded the Trump administration’s efforts to expand states’ access to the SAVE database to clean up their voter rolls, arguing the previous process of tracking down ineligible voters was “cumbersome.” He also voiced concerns that Democrats will gut the database.

“I would not be surprised if they try to defund the entire safe system or pass legislation to prevent its use for cleaning up voter rolls,” Snead said.

“I think that we are fast approaching the point where it is fair to say, ‘Why are Democrats actively pushing for noncitizen voting?’” Snead continued. “I think that’s the direction that we are going.”

President Donald Trump signed a proclamation on Thursday that he said would designate the White House’s Oval Office and Cabinet Room as national landmarks — a move he said would protect the two West Wing spaces from future changes.

The signing ceremony, which came on the heels of Republicans’ stunning midterm losses on Tuesday, was his third event of the week related to his construction or renovation projects in the nation’s capital — which have been largely unpopular with voters.

“It concerns the Oval Office and the Cabinet Room, very important spaces. And I’m going to be signing a document which will make them into a landmark for the ages,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, which he’s extensively gilded since returning to the White House in early 2025.

Trump said the administration would send the document to Congress.

“So we’re going to be declaring it a national monument, and we’re going to send it over to Congress, have it ratified,” he said.

“It’s a federal landmark — and when completed and when we get the documentation fully done, legally binding, it’ll make it impossible for anybody ever to destroy this incredible space,” he added.

CNN has reached out to the White House about the document and Trump’s intentions.

Trump has put his distinctive imprint on the two White House spaces. In the Oval Office alone, he’s added gold vermeil figurines on the mantle and medallions on the fireplace; gold eagles on the side tables; gilded Rococo mirrors on the doors; and, nestled in the pediments above the doorways, diminutive gold cherubs shipped in from Mar-a-Lago.

“I just thought it was very important that nobody be allowed to come in and take it down and try and do something with it,” Trump added on Thursday.

据英国广播公司（BBC）和《纽约时报》报道，标普500指数星期四闭市下跌4.3%，创下2025年4月以来的最大单日跌幅；道琼斯工业平均指数也大跌超过3.4%，悉数抹平了选后的全部涨幅。作为避险资产的美国10年期国债收益率则应声滑落至4.83%，创下9月以来的新低。

首当其冲的是晶片制造商与半导体产业链。费城半导体指数狂泻逾12%，自10月初以来的累计跌幅已扩大至30%以上。AI晶片龙头英伟达（Nvidia）股价下挫逾9%,抹去逾4000亿美元市值。超微半导体（AMD）与美光科技（Micron）双双暴跌逾17%；闪迪（SanDisk）狂跌逾22%；英特尔（Intel）下挫10.3%；安谋（Arm）因AI收入不及预期重挫13.1%；高通（Qualcomm）则在下调获利预测后大跌9.5%。

作为共和党超级捐助者的全球首富马斯克，旗下企业同样遭遇重创。特斯拉与SpaceX股价分别大跌近11%与8%，两家公司市值单日蒸发逾3000亿美元。

英国财富俱乐部（Wealth Club）首席投资策略师斯特里特（Susannah Streeter）分析指出：“对人工智能交易的全新恐慌严重打击了华尔街。投资者对投入巨额AI基建却无法取得预期回报的担忧，如今正与数据中心建设急剧放缓的前景正面撞击。”

市场抛售潮直接源于民主党在美国中期选举中大获全胜。在此次竞选中，多名民主党候选人主打抑制数据中心无序扩张与限制人工智能的竞选政纲。全美数十个地方的选票还附带了限制修建数据中心的公投提案。在数据中心重要枢纽得克萨斯州，新当选的民主党籍州长希诺霍萨（Gina Hinojosa）曾强力主张并誓言暂停所有新的数据中心建设。
