‘They are murder victims’: Senator suggests US strikes have killed people who weren’t involved in drug trafficking

The US military’s strikes on alleged drug boats have likely illegally killed “individuals who are not involved in narcotrafficking,” Sen. Tim Kaine told the White House on Monday, following “a careful review” of classified information he has seen so far.

“They are murder victims,” the Virginia Democrat wrote in a letter to President Donald Trump.

So far, the US military has killed at least 221 people and destroyed at least 67 vessels in the “Operation Southern Spear” campaign, which began last September. The administration has told Congress the US is in an “armed conflict” against drug cartels, labeling those killed “unlawful combatants” and claiming the ability to engage in lethal strikes without judicial review due to a classified Justice Department finding.

But Kaine said Monday that his review has led him to believe “the United States is engaged in violent and fatal attacks against people far beyond” the parameters of the classified legal opinion. He added, “A careful review of the available evidence suggests that the United States has killed individuals who are not involved in narcotrafficking.”

Kaine urged Trump to “examine the circumstances of these strikes” and cease what he called an “illegal, costly and ineffective” operation.

The senator sits on the Senate Armed Services Committee, and in the letter, he pointed to classified information shared with Congress about the strikes and the targets that he had seen.

White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly defended the strikes in a statement to CNN on Monday evening.

“All of these decisive strikes have been against designated narcoterrorists bringing deadly poison to our shores, and the President will continue to use every element of American power to stop drugs from flooding into our country and to bring those responsible to justice,” she said.

CNN has previously reported that military officials don’t always know the identities of everyone on board the boats they target. Officials told the Pentagon inspector general they could not publicly disclose what criteria determine whether a boat is destroyed or intercepted by the Coast Guard.

Kaine’s comments come during a pause on the boat strikes — the most recent occurred on June 21. It is not clear why there has been a break, but law enforcement officials and experts who previously spoke with CNN stressed the resiliency and adaptability of drug smuggling networks and expressed skepticism about whether the strikes will meaningfully change the region’s drug trade.

Meanwhile, US Southern Command, the headquarters overseeing the campaign, has insisted that the mission allows the military to fight the cartels before “their violence and poison” reach the country.

Kaine has previously criticized the administration over how it has conducted operations in the Caribbean and east Pacific. In December 2025, he raised alarm about a so-called double-tap strike that killed survivors on an alleged drug vessel in the Caribbean, suggesting that it “rises to the level of a war crime if it’s true.”

    Moon Juice

Joe Concha slams Michigan candidate Abdul El-Sayed over alleged medical credential claims

Fox News contributor Joe Concha vehemently criticizes Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed for allegedly misrepresenting his medical credentials. Concha highlights the rigorous path and sacrifice of real doctors, contrasting it with El-Sayed’s claims. He argues El-Sayed, lacking a medical license, has not saved lives, branding his claims as deceitful and a disservice to the profession. Concha argues voters should be wary of such misrepresentations.

Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed made money promoting health products, including while invoking his medical credentials, despite saying he broadly rejected advertisements for products making health claims and criticizing others for doing the same.

Before running for Senate, El-Sayed hosted a podcast that provided him with a six-figure income partially through ad reads. Among the companies El-Sayed promoted for cash, often citing his purported experience as a doctor, were firms selling supplements, peptides, and an Israeli metabolism-tracking device that has been scrutinized by health experts.

The ad reads came despite an assurance from El-Sayed that he would not use his platform to sell health products to people who listen to him.

“I broadly reject any advertisements that are for products making claims about health,” he wrote in a now-deleted social media post from March 2022.

El-Sayed also accused Mehmet Oz during his 2022 Pennsylvania Senate run of being part of the “medical industrial complex that exists to sell you things that you don’t need that are not actually based in any level of science.”

“Yet he can … say, ‘Well, I’m a doctor, so you should trust what I have to say,’” El-Sayed added.

After assuring his audience that he wouldn’t hawk health products, and criticizing Oz for using his medical credentials for doing so, El-Sayed used his medical credentials to sell health products.

“Even as a doctor and epidemiologist, nutrition labels are obnoxiously hard to process,” El-Sayed said during a March 2025 ad read. “That’s where Thrive Market comes in. See, I love Thrive Market, my go to online grocery store for getting all of my healthy essentials delivered. And I don’t even have to leave my couch.”

Thrive Market has sold a wide selection of supplements, including items such as “Moon Juice Brain Dust” and “Royal Jelly Brain Fuel” that claim to improve the cognitive function of those who use them. Health experts have cast doubt on whether or not such supplements can actually improve brain function.

Moon Juice Brain Dust describes itself as a “nootropic blend of adaptogens and herbs that target stress to support mental stamina, alertness, and concentration” that is “informed by Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurveda.” Royal jelly, meanwhile, is a thick, milky substance produced by bees to feed their queen. Proponents argue it can be helpful in treating menopause symptoms or addressing low energy, though scientific evidence for such claims is limited.

While El-Sayed has leaned heavily on his identity as a doctor both in doing ad reads and on the campaign trail, public records indicate that he never held a medical license or completed a residency. He does, however, hold a medical degree and a doctorate degree in public health.

The New York Post was the first to report on El-Sayed’s advertisement for health goods.

A company making moon dust and brain jelly wasn’t El-Sayed’s only customer.

On July 23, 2024, El-Sayed read an ad promoting a medical device created by an Israel-based startup.

“Lumen is the world’s first handheld metabolic coach. It’s a device that measures your metabolism through your breath and on the app. It lets you know if you’re burning fat or carbs and gives you tailored guidance to improve your nutrition, workout, sleep, and even manage your stress,” he said. “All you’ve got to do is breathe into your Lumen first thing in the morning, and it’ll give you an inside look into what’s going on with your metabolism, whether you’re burning mostly fats or carbs.”

Years before El-Sayed took Lumen’s advertising money, experts were raising concerns about its medical claims.

“I just don’t see a practical use for the product in helping people achieve their weight-loss goals,” Harbor-UCLA Medical Center senior researcher Nicholas Tiller told Outside Magazine in 2022. “The use of metabolic flexibility and other science-sounding terms lend the product a false scientific legitimacy.”

“It’s quintessential marketing over science,” he added.

El-Sayed also advertised for a company offering a peptide that allegedly improves skin health.

Trump wanted a Lindsey Graham tribute. South Carolina Republicans want a choice

    2026-08-03T20:15:46.823Z / Reuters

WASHINGTON, Aug 3 (Reuters) – President Donald Trump’s bid to install Lindsey Graham’s sister as South Carolina’s next senator has met unexpected resistance from Republican voters and rivals, setting up a crowded primary that will test the limits of Trump’s political influence in one of his strongest states.

After Senator Lindsey Graham died on July 11 at age 71 from a heart ailment, Governor Henry McMaster appointed ‌his sister, Darline Graham, to serve the remainder of his term, which expires in January.

The Reuters Daily Briefing newsletter provides all the news you need to start your day. Sign up here.

Trump called the appointment a “fabulous tribute” and urged voters to elect her to a full six-year term in the August 11 special election, promising his “Complete and Total Endorsement.”

Some Republicans say Darline Graham is a fitting caretaker for her brother’s seat but oppose Trump’s push to elect her to a full term, arguing voters should choose from a field that remains crowded despite the president’s endorsement.

U.S. Representative Nancy Mace, a Republican who ran unsuccessfully for governor, said South Carolina’s conservative voters were upset by the president’s endorsement.

“His candidate lost in the governor’s race, and his candidate’s going to lose in the Senate race,” said Mace, who is supporting U.S. Representative Ralph Norman. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to put in a tried and true conservative.”

The president’s endorsement “gets you into a runoff,” she said, “but it doesn’t get you to win. It’s not enough to win a race anymore.”

The runoff between the top two vote-getters will be on August 25 if no single candidate wins a majority.

    DONORS QUESTION CREDENTIALS

Supporters say the most popular politicians in the state — including Trump and Senator Tim Scott — have spoken favorably of Darline Graham, who is leading in opinion polls.

In interviews, however, Republican donors said Darline Graham has hidden behind the grieving process and her brother’s surname, noting how little she has engaged with reporters and how quickly references to her full name — Darline Graham Nordone — have disappeared since she was sworn in. They also say she lacks the credentials to merit serving a full term.

Graham’s campaign did not respond to multiple requests for comment, but she told Sean Hannity of Fox News that being a politician was not something she ever wanted.

“That was Lindsey’s life, not mine,” she said. “But when they asked, it didn’t take me long. … I knew that I had to step up. I had to carry on his legacy.”

Graham will be one ‌of five candidates at a debate on Monday night.

    NINE CANDIDATES VIE FOR NOMINATION

At least nine candidates are seeking the Republican nomination, including two members of the U.S. House of Representatives, a former governor and a wealthy businessman who ran against Lindsey Graham in the original primary. A 10th candidate has challenged whether he can appear on the ballot.

A former aide to Lindsey Graham said rival candidates will tear into one another to emerge as the alternative to Graham’s sister in a runoff.

The former aide rejected criticism that Darline Graham has run a low-profile campaign and avoided public scrutiny, noting how quickly Lindsey Graham’s team had to organize funerals in Washington and South Carolina for an international figure while transitioning her from private citizen to senator.

“People will be really impressed when they learn more and see more of her,” the former aide said.

Mark Lynch, a self-funding Republican outsider who got 134,000 primary votes in his longshot Senate bid, said voters are concerned that Darline Graham isn’t qualified to represent the state because she has no record.

Lynch, Mace and others also disputed whether she’s eligible to run, citing a state party rule requiring that candidates vote in at least two of the previous three statewide Republican primaries.

“People are furious” about “the coronation of Darline Graham,” Lynch said. “It’s OK that they picked her to be the interim senator until January but not to run for office.”

Recent polls show Graham leading by a double-digit margin, with Norman, U.S. Representative Russell Fry and former Governor Mark Sanford competing for the second runoff spot.

Allies of Norman, who ran unsuccessfully for governor, say he is best positioned to win the Republican nomination in a runoff against Darline Graham because he has a long conservative legislative record. Norman’s campaign did not respond to a request for comment.

A campaign consultant for Fry said voters see the 41-year-old as a generational change candidate who could shake things up in the Senate. Fry is a Trump ally who is considered a rising star.

Senate candidate El-Sayed says it’s “funny to me” to assume Michigan votes for moderates when it voted twice for Trump

    2026-08-03T17:54:24-0400 / CBS News

In his race to be the next Democratic senator from Michigan, Abdul El-Sayed, a progressive populist, is challenging perceptions about who Michigan’s voters are and what they really want. In an interview with CBS News senior White House and political correspondent Ed O’Keefe, El-Sayed questioned the characterization of the state’s voters as moderates.

“It’s always funny to me that people want to say that this state votes for moderates when it voted for Donald Trump twice,” he told O’Keefe in Detroit Monday, on the eve of the Michigan primaries. “It may just be that the better explanation is not that the state wants moderates: It’s that it’s so sick and tired of the establishment bought off by corporations on both sides of the political aisle that it was willing to hold its nose and vote for Donald Trump twice.”

El-Sayed’s main opponent in the Democratic primary Tuesday is Rep. Haley Stevens, a moderate who represents a district outside Detroit and was recruited for the race by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. Stevens has the support of most establishment Democrats, while progressives like independent Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont and New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are in El-Sayed’s corner.

El-Sayed, a doctor who ran unsuccessfully for governor in 2018, is relying solely on grassroots donations and is not accepting PAC money, while Stevens has received tens of millions of dollars from several PACs, including AIPAC, which lobbies for U.S. support for Israel.

El-Sayed told O’Keefe he wants to build a “broad coalition,” including “anybody who wants to take on fascism, anybody who wants to get money out of politics, anybody who wants to fight for union rights, anybody who wants to make sure that people can live free with clean air and drink clean water, anybody who wants to guarantee healthcare.”

He suggested that the Democratic Party has been losing some support because it’s been focusing on a narrow band of interests rather than coming up with ways to address the needs of most Americans.

“Sometimes, when the Democratic Party talks about a big tent, we push everybody into the corner and then go talk and pander to the corner,” he told O’Keefe. “I’m just trying to bring everybody to the tent pole in the middle to talk about what we really need. We need good housing. We need good schools. We need healthcare.”

Pressed on whether there are views he doesn’t want to see in the party, El-Sayed responded, “We’re trying to define a viewpoint that’s built on money out of politics, money in your pocket, Medicare for all.”

The Democratic Socialists of America have not endorsed El-Sayed, but Sanders and other democratic socialists have been campaigning for him across Michigan.

El-Sayed says he doesn’t care about party labels — “I don’t do ideology” — and while he’s not part of DSA, he thinks its supporters should be welcomed into the Democratic Party.

“You want a coalition of all people,” he said. “You know who else are going to be part of my coalition? Three-time Trump voters who want health care, who want to keep our money here at home.”

He acknowledged that there are some who “really want to label me a socialist.”

El-Sayed says, “I’d rather think of myself as a capitalist who’s actually read about capitalism, in the sense that the biggest risk to capitalism was always going to be corporate consolidation and monopoly rather than government regulation. In fact, you need some government regulation to make sure that capitalism runs well.”

    2026-08-03T20:13:23.177Z / https://www.cnn.com/2026/08/03/politics/chuck-edwards-ethics-censure

GOP lawmaker gave female staffers lavish gifts of jewelry, vacations and guns, ethics report finds

    2026-08-03T20:13:23.177Z / https://www.cnn.com/2026/08/03/politics/chuck-edwards-ethics-censure

The bipartisan House Ethics Committee said Monday it has found “substantial evidence” that GOP Rep. Chuck Edwards repeatedly made unwanted advances toward two of his female staffers and is recommending that the full House vote to punish him on the floor.

The panel determined “there was substantial reason to believe Representative Edwards violated House Rules related to sexual harassment and hostile workplaces.”

The extraordinary statement, which is the result of a months-long investigation, marks the first time the panel has recommended the House censure one of its own members since 2010.

A censure resolution is one of the most severe forms of punishment in the House, though does not remove a member from the House and carries no explicit penalties beyond a public admonition.

The congressman denied that his behavior was “intended as a sexual or romantic advance,” according to the committee’s report, which also said that it found no evidence that Edwards, 65, “engaged in sexual activity” with the women.

Both women had worked for Edwards when he was a state senator and continued to work for him when he took office in the House of Representatives. The first woman was still in college at that time and worked in the congressional office for around three years. The second woman was in her early 20s when she started work in the congressional office and continued working there for around two and a half years.

Paul Shumaker, a spokesperson and strategist for the Edwards campaign, said in a statement the panel’s findings “completely exonerate Representative Edwards under the House rules governing sexual misconduct or harassment” and that its conclusion showed the congressman “did not violate federal sexual harassment law.”

Edwards, who is running for reelection in North Carolina’s 11th district, “looks forward to having his name cleared and will work to ensure that the full light of day is brought on this process,” the spokesman added.

The 25-page ethics committee report states that Edwards repeatedly acted inappropriately by “personal texts late in the evenings” and buying lavish gifts for the staffers. The purchases included jewelry worth over $1,000, as well as “designer purses, guns, shoes, flowers, a laptop and cell phone, KitchenAid mixer, robotic vacuum, vacations, tickets to performances, and one-on-one dinners.”

The congressman brought one of the staffers on a trip to New York City where he’d planned a helicopter ride, dinner, and Broadway show to celebrate his birthday. At another point, he paid for one of the women to go to New York City with a friend and bought them tickets to see “Hamilton” after she’d “gone through a breakup.”

For the same woman, Edwards also purchased spa treatments and skipped House votes one night to go to her home and decorate a Christmas tree with her. He later wrote the same woman a poem that he read aloud at her going away party when she left his office “during which he cried.”

In one instance, Edwards arranged for a birthday serenade at the woman’s party and arranged for the singer to say it was “from a special someone.” Afterwards, the woman told her friend that she did not believe the congressman viewed her as “just a daughter figure” and that she was “scared lowkey.”

“The Committee found that Representative Edwards engaged in persistent unprofessional and inappropriate conduct towards two young female staffers,” the committee said, summing up its findings.

The women, who were not identified in the report, told the committee that they “attempted to communicate” that they were uncomfortable with his behavior, but that they were “put in an untenable position by virtue of his status as their boss and a Member of Congress.”

Edwards contended that that his relationships with the women were “professional boss-subordinate relationships” and “friendships,” the panel said. But the committee found that he had intentionally deleted some messages to these women that were “particularly inappropriate” — a finding they said was central to their investigation.

“Representative Edwards acknowledged at least some of the behavior at issue could be viewed as inappropriate. However, he has not acknowledged or taken responsibility for the harm he caused,” the report said.

“A Member of Congress should not single out a staffer and isolate them from other staff, make frequent comments regarding that person’s appearance and weight, send messages in the middle of the night, text staff deeply personal and seemingly romantic thoughts, intrude on personal occasions without invitation, pay for personal vacations, and spend thousands of dollars on gifts for staffers.”

“That Representative Edwards did all these things to two young staffers, repeatedly over a sustained period, was beyond inappropriate,” it said.

The House is currently on recess for the month of August with members back in their home districts, so September is likely the earliest a censure effort could be taken up.

‘Special sauce of crazy’ — Midwest Dem candidate’s policies too extreme for voters: opponent

    2026-08-03T13:17:37-04:00 / Fox News

El-Sayed and Stevens face off Tuesday in the Democratic Party’s biggest ideological battle between far-left and center-left

Michigan GOP Senate hopeful Mike Rogers says he’d beat either Democrat, blasts rivals as ‘too extreme’

Presumptive Republican Senate nominee in Michigan former Rep. Mike Rogers speaks one-on-one with Fox News Digital in Farmington Hills, Michigan.

NEW You can now listen to Fox News articles!

DETROIT, Michigan — Republican Mike Rogers is confident he’ll defeat whichever Democratic rival he faces off with in the midterm elections in the crucial Senate showdown in this Great Lakes battleground state.

“It doesn’t matter to us. We’ve looked at both candidates. We feel confident we’re going to beat either one of those candidates that come out of that race,” Rogers said in a Fox News Digital interview two days before Michigan’s primary.

Abdul El-Sayed, a former Wayne County Health Department director who unsuccessfully ran an insurgent campaign for governor in 2018, is facing off for the Democratic Party’s nomination in Michigan against Rep. Haley Stevens,a more moderate candidate backed by the establishment. The primary race is the biggest battle to date in the party’s ideological war between the far-left and the center-left.

Rogers says both El-Sayed and Stevens “are very radical, and they are way too extreme for Michigan.” And pointing to El-Sayed, he charged, “Abdul, he has his own special sauce of crazy.”

The expensive and combustible scrum between El-Sayed and Stevens in the race to succeed retiring Democratic Sen. Gary Peters, who is backing Stevens, is bolstering Republicans and potentially endangering a must-hold seat in November for the Democrats as they face an uphill challenge to win back the Senate majority.

“That certainly helps,” Rogers said as he pointed to the Democratic primary battle.

Rogers, a former congressman who lost the 2024 Senate election in Michigan by a razor-thin margin while President Trump narrowly carried the state, touted that while the Democrats engage in what some describe as a civil war, “we’ve unified the Republican Party in a way I haven’t seen in decades here on this particular race.”

“We’re building our team, our resources, and are ready for the fight after August 5 in a way I don’t think Democrats are expecting,” he highlighted.

El-Sayed, who, if elected, would make history as the nation’s first Muslim senator, has made support for Medicare-for-all a major component of his campaign.

He has also called for abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and is a vocal critic of Israel amid its war with Hamas — even characterizing Israel’s actions in Gaza as “genocide” against Palestinians. And El-Sayed, who served as a top surrogate on Sanders’ 2020 presidential campaign, has vowed not to accept PAC donations.

El-Sayed, who is backed by many leaders on the left and was joined on the campaign trail two weeks ago by progressive champions Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, has reiterated that he’s not a socialist.

But Rogers argued that El-Sayed is “in a different league altogether about pushing that socialist agenda, Democrat Socialists of America are in Michigan working for him right now. They’re parachuting in from all over the country.”

“If you believe in the future of America and your own prosperity and your individual liberties, well…. We’re going to talk about it because they’ve got plans to take all that away,” Rogers claimed, as he pointed to the far left and El-Sayed. “And just because you’re a smooth talker and could sell ice to an Eskimo doesn’t mean people are ready to give up their rights.”

Both El-Sayed and Stevens are confident that Democrats will unite following Tuesday’s primary.

“Let’s make sure that anyone but Mike Rogers gets to the United States Senate,” Stevens told reporters on Sunday. “After the primary, you’re going to see a united Democratic Party. You are going to see us going full force, full fledge ahead.”

And El-Sayed told Fox News Digital, “I think we all understand the risk of Donald Trump. We all understand the risk of Mike Rogers.”

“This is a guy who is not going to stand up and take on the war machine. He’s not going to stand up and take on Big Pharma. He’s not going to stand up and take on Big Tech. He is going to do the bidding of large corporations,” El-Sayed argued as he referred to Rogers. “I think everybody understands what the stakes are.

Socialist House candidate says he agrees with Republicans on ‘one issue’

Michigan’s Donavan McKinney is among the DSA candidates working to primary incumbents

    August 3, 2026 1:00pm EDT / Fox News

A socialist candidate vying to unseat a sitting House Democrat says there is “one issue” he agrees with Republicans on.

Michigan state lawmaker Donavan McKinney is among the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) members giving establishment Democrats a run for their money across the country ahead of the 2026 midterm elections in November.

Members of the group have shown that they’re a potent force among the left’s base voters, while also working to appeal to the same working-class, anti-establishment sentiment that helped President Donald Trump get elected in 2016.

DSA MEMBER LEADS DEM PRIMARY IN MIDWEST BATTLEGROUND BUT TRAILS LIKELY GOP NOMINEE: POLL

Michigan state Rep. Donavan McKinney rallied over the weekend in his bid to unseat Rep. Shri Thanedar, D-Mich., on Aug. 2, 2026.(Paul Steinhauser/Fox News Digital)

The latest evidence of that is McKinney’s tease in a recent interview with Zeteo News, “I gotta give Republicans — I agree with them on this one issue. The one issue is waste, fraud and abuse.”

But he differed with the GOP on where that’s coming from.

“Republicans’ analysis is there’s waste, fraud and abuse when it comes to the poor. It’s kind of like, you know, voting fraud. There’s like .0001%, like very small percentage of folks, poor people, take advantage of the system,” McKinney said. “The waste, fraud and abuse is coming from our taxpayer dollars subsidizing our corporations and the wealthy, so they can get richer and we keep being poor.”

“We’re gonna attack the waste, fraud and abuse, but we’re going to attack it for the top 1% earners in this country,” he added of his goals if elected to the House.

McKinney is running to unseat Rep. Shri Thanedar, D-Mich., a progressive who split with the DSA over the party’s anti-Israel sentiment.

And during a rally over the weekend, McKinney attempted to appeal to voters who feel the strain of high costs in their everyday lives.

HOUSE REPUBLICANS AIM TO TURN DEMOCRATIC CIVIL WAR INTO MIDTERM WEAPON

“All I hear across our communities is that I don’t have enough resources to survive. I would define politics, it’s pretty simple, it’s the redistribution of resources. Well, we have to take our taxpayer money to send it overseas for bombs and weapons, to kill families and children. No more to support genocide. I think that’s a damn shame,” he said.

“We’re in Iran spending billions of dollars a day on average. And you’re telling me the people in my district, the seniors, our children, our most vulnerable populations can’t get the resources they deserve? I don’t think this is the America anyone wants us to live in, am I right?”

He also criticized “self-interested” lawmakers in both parties for falling out of touch with what Americans across the country are struggling with.

But on the other side of the aisle, the growing insurgency from the socialist left could provide a boon to Republicans who are fighting an uphill battle to keep control of the House.

GOP leaders across the country are warning that Americans are not interested in socialism or its core beliefs, like the redistribution of wealth and demise of capitalism.

Meanwhile, DSA-linked candidates have already unseated incumbent House Democrats in New York and Colorado.

Top Dem torches socialists taking over his party: ‘They’re anti-American’

The Blue Dog coalition leader said DSA members support the Communist Manifesto and Trotsky and are ‘anti-American’

Democrat Rep. Josh Gottheimer sounds the alarm on the growing influence of far-left socialist factions within the party. Gottheimer emphasizes the rise of the Democratic Socialists of America during recent high-profile primary elections. He argues that mainstream leaders must actively reject radical progressive policies to maintain voter trust and win competitive congressional elections.

A leading House Democrat went scorched-earth on insurgent socialists rising within his party, repeatedly telling them to start their own party and accusing them of trying to “hijack” the Democratic Party as a “vessel” for their communist, “anti-American,” open-border platform.

House Intelligence Committee member Josh Gottheimer, D-N.J., a leader of the moderate Blue Dog Coalition, told Fox News on Sunday that the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is “not Democrats” and rejected the idea that its platform is compatible with the Democratic Party’s.

“Obviously, I’m a very proud, commonsense Democrat, and I don’t think DSA members are Democrats. They’re socialists, right? And I’m all for them having their own party if they want one, but if they’re trying to take over our party, that’s unacceptable to me,” Gottheimer said on “The Big Weekend Show.”

“Their values, their ideas are certainly not in line with ours, and they don’t support our leadership. They’re trying to use the Democratic Party as a vessel for their ideas. And as you heard in some of these conventions, literally, they’re supporting the Communist Manifesto and Leon Trotsky, they’re anti-American, they are anti-cop, they don’t believe in borders.”

Gottheimer was referring to man-on-the-street clips of DSA members at the group’s Chicago convention. One socialist said they are organizing a front to get “ICE off our campuses,” while a member of the DSA’s National Political Committee said people such as Gottheimer who call them anti-American do not understand that their platform is the “most American thing you can do.”

Another DSA NPC member said socialism is the “same kind of stuff that I am used to [in] growing up in the Christian Church.”

Gottheimer said 45 million voters are registered Democrats, compared with 150,000 official DSA members.

“They’re not welcome in the Democratic Party,” he said.

He pushed back against members of his own party who have expressed openness to DSA-aligned candidates such as Maine oysterman Graham Platner.

Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., who represents Silicon Valley, said Democrats should not have “watched wealth pile up on Wall Street and Silicon Valley” at the expense of working-class Americans, adding that “the Democratic Party needs reform.”

Gottheimer countered that fringe coalitions are mounting insurgencies in both parties and “trying to barge in” with incompatible ideas.

He also pointed to longtime Clinton confidant James Carville, who told Fox News that he would disown the Democratic Party if left-wing streamer Hasan Piker were permitted to become one of its leaders.

Former U.S. Marine Corps bomb technician Johnny Joey Jones asked whether Gottheimer would also leave the party over Piker or if Democratic leaders embraced socialists such as Harlem’s Darializa Chevalier.

“Well, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries won’t — and let me be very clear that Hasan Piker is not a Democrat – the guy is the ultimate grifter, right? He’s the guy who said that 9/11 is America’s fault… We’ve got to make it clear he’s not welcome in the Democratic Party.”

Gottheimer said the DSA platform shows that the organization is incompatible with the Democratic Party. He added that socialists can “scream and yell and try to …hijack [the party] and shove their ideas in and use it as a vessel.”

“We have to make clear that’s not who we are…”

While Gottheimer reiterated that he does not plan to leave the Democratic Party any time soon, Jones noted that one prominent New Jersey Democrat already has.

Rep. Jeff Van Drew, whose district includes Cape May, switched parties during President Donald Trump’s first term, angering South Jersey Democratic committees as the longtime lawmaker embraced Trump’s platform.
