Democratic Ohio Rep.-elect Brian Poindexter said he has not heard from his opponent Rep. Max Miller after defeating him in Tuesday’s midterm elections.
“He didn’t call, unless he called me from a private number,” Poindexter said on MSNOW’s “The Weekend.”
Poindexter, who ran focusing on both affordability issues and Miller’s character, unseated the embattled congressman in an Ohio district President Donald Trump had won by more than 10 points two years ago.
Miller has been locked in a bitter custody battle over his daughter with his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, the daughter of GOP Sen. Bernie Moreno. Emily Moreno has accused her ex-husband of abuse, including claiming Miller held a gun to her head when changing their daughter.
While Miller has denied the allegations and requested a House Ethics Committee investigation into the matter, party officials sought to push him out of the race over the summer in a bid to retain the seat. Miller, however, refused and will now be departing Congress in January.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said the results of the midterm elections signaled an opportunity for the newly elected Democrats to deliver on progressive goals.
The mayor highlighted affordability as a unifying issue for voters across the country.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said he expects House Democrats to provide “incredibly strong” support for GOP Rep. Thomas Massie’s effort to impeach Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
Jeffries, who is expected to become House speaker in the next Congress, told ABC’s “This Week” that he’ll be a “hard yes” on Massie’s resolution, which the Kentucky Republican plans to force to the floor for a vote when Congress returns this week.
“The so-called Secretary of Defense has abused his power, undermined our national security, and engineered this reckless and costly war of choice in Iran, which has skyrocketed prices on the American people and made the country less safe. Pete Hegseth has got to go,” Jeffries said.

Michigan Sen.-elect Abdul El-Sayed on Sunday said he is open to meeting with President Donald Trump to discuss how they “can serve the Michiganders,” despite the two men trading insults as the Democrat ran for office.
“I’ve never met the man. He is the president of the United States. I am the US senator-elect from the state of Michigan. I am happy to meet with him, like I’ll meet with anyone who can advance the goals I ran on to get money out of politics, put money in pockets, pass Medicare for all,” El-Sayed said on ABC’s “This Week.”
“If (Trump) wants to act serious, we are happy to work alongside him to actually address these issues,” El-Sayed added. “But if he wants to continue to fool, he will hire people like Stephen Miller to run the White House. And he gets to choose where he goes next.”

Democrat Kansas Senator-elect Adam Hamilton said President Donald Trump’s decision to elevateStephen Miller to White House chief of staff is concerning, describing the move as “doubling down” despite Democrats’ huge wins in the midterms.
“I’m actually surprised that he did that because the election was a repudiation of so much of what Trump has stood for, and I think so much of that was designed by Stephen Miller. So the idea of making him chief of staff seems really odd to me, and it’s concerning,” Hamilton told Dana Bash on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
“It feels like a doubling down on what the first two years of the Trump administration have done,” he added.

Dozens of newly elected incoming members of Congress arrived in Washington, DC, this weekend to kick off a post-election orientation period.
Starting this morning, winning Democratic and Republican candidates who either flipped House districts, or were elected to fill vacant seats, will gather to prepare to kick off the 120th Congress in January.
During orientation, new members will learn House rules and procedures and management skills, as well as enter a lottery system to select an office in the vast Capitol complex.
CNN projects that Democrats will have at least a 254-seat majority in the House after flipping 44 seats in a wave of victories in the midterm elections. That margin could still grow as20 races are still yet to be projected.

While it is clear that Democrats have flipped control of the House of Representatives, the party is awaiting calls in several key races that will determine the size of its majority.
There are 20 House races that CNN has not yet projected, out of a total 435 seats. These include tight contests in Arizona, Colorado, Florida and Minnesota.
Democrats are on the verge of exceeding the 257 House seats at the start of Barack Obama’s presidency and the 258 at the start of Bill Clinton’s tenure.
Senate:Democrats have also secured a majority in the upper chamber, but votes are still being counted in Mississippi and Alaska’s Senate races to determine the final balance of power.

Attorney General Todd Blanche will appear on CNN’s “State of the Union” from 9 a.m. ET, a day after President Donald Trump said he would have the Department of Justice look into Democrats who are seeking investigations into the White House.
Some context:In a lengthy Truth Social post yesterday, Trump accused Democrats of “threatening” certain members of his administration, including Blanche, “with Impeachment and many other forms of punishment.”
Incoming House Oversight Chair Robert Garcia will join CNN’s Dana Bash on the show immediately after Blanche. Garcia is expected to launch a number of investigations into Trump, his family and the administration’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files, and other issues.
After it was projected that Democrats would gain control of the House on Tuesday night, Garcia issued a short statement aimed at Trump administration officials : “Lawyer up.”
Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and Kansas Sen.-elect Adam Hamilton will also join “State of the Union.”

A senior Democrat on the House’s powerful Oversight Committee has signaled his panel will call Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought and new White House Chief of Staff Stephen Miller to testify when his party retakes control of Congress.
In an interview with CNN’s Victor Blackwell this morning, Rep. Stephen Lynch pointed to the two Trump administration officials as examples of people who have been “behind the scenes pulling the strings,” but have “never… been held accountable.”
It comes after President Donald Trump said he would have the Department of Justice look into threats of “impeachment and many other forms of punishment” by Democrats against certain members of his administration, companies and donors to his ballroom project.
Lynch responded to Trump’s comment, saying the president isn’t used to “what democracy looks like when the Oversight Committees in the House and Senate actually hold the president accountable… This is this is a new thing for him.”

Democrats will control the next Senate after a historic showing in last week’s midterms, flipping seats in what was considered red territory including Texas, Iowa and Kansas.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has expressed confidence that he will be reelected as majority leader to helm the newly empowered caucus. But several incoming Senate Democrats have vowed not to support him.
Here’s what we heard yesterday about the brewing questions surrounding the chamber’s next Democratic leader:
Sen. Chris Van Hollen said there should be a competitive process, not a “coronation” of the new majority leader — though he suggested he was unlikely to seek the post himself.
The mention of Schumer’s name at the gathering drew boos inside the ballroom.
Van Hollen later told CNN that mounting his own run for majority leader was not his focus.
Sen. Elissa Slotkinspoke at the same event and declined to rule out running herself.
The Michigan Democrat, who has long pushed for new leadership inside the party, said it was up to Schumer to convince Democrats that he has a plan for how they should wield their new power.
Asked if she would run for the job, she did not say no.
