戴安娜王妃的兄长查尔斯·斯宾塞就白金汉宫针对其新书《绝唱：我的妹妹戴安娜》中的部分爆料发表的声明作出回应。
“他们必须对我进行煤气灯操纵，必须假装我的精神或记忆出了问题，但两者都没有任何问题，”斯宾塞在接受美国国内首次电视直播采访、《哥伦比亚广播公司晨间新闻》联合主播盖尔·金采访时说道。
在书中，斯宾塞回忆了他与时任查尔斯王子、如今的国王查尔斯三世就威廉王子和哈里王子参加戴安娜王妃葬礼游行一事的对话。他声称，在斯宾塞反对戴安娜的儿子们跟在灵柩后步行后，查尔斯曾对他说：“放心，我们很快就会忘掉她。”
白金汉宫本月早些时候在一份声明中回应了这一爆料，称国王“深知丧亲之痛可能扰乱理智、影响判断并歪曲记忆”。
斯宾塞为自己的说法辩护道：“我知道我听到了那句话。”
“我和这位现任国王只有过两次电话交谈，所以这绝对没错。我当时就把这件事告诉了别人，实际上是告诉了芭芭拉·沃尔特斯，”斯宾塞在《哥伦比亚广播公司晨间新闻》中说道。
斯宾塞表示，除了妻子和出版商之外，没有人知道他在写这本回忆录。

Princess Diana’s brother says Buckingham Palace “has to gaslight” him in response to book claims

Princess Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer, addressed Buckingham Palace’s statement to some of the claims he made in his new book, “Swan Song: Diana, My Sister.”
“They have to gaslight. They have to sort of pretend there’s something wrong with my mind or my memory. There’s nothing wrong with either,” Spencer told “CBS Mornings” co-host Gayle King in his first live TV interview in the U.S.
In the book, Spencer recalled a conversation he had with King Charles III, then Prince Charles, about Princes William and Harry walking in Diana’s funeral procession. He claimed Charles had told him, “Rest assured, we’ll forget her soon enough,” after Spencer objected to Diana’s sons walking behind her coffin.
Buckingham Palace responded to the claim earlier this month in a statement saying the king “is mindful that the pain of fraternal grief can cloud reason, affect judgement and colour memory.”
Spencer defended his claim, saying “I know I heard that.”
“I only had two conversations on the phone with the now king. So, it’s definitely the case. I told people at the time. I told Barbara Walters, actually, at the time,” Spencer said on “CBS Mornings.”
Spencer said nobody knew he was writing his memoir except for his wife and the publishers.

“I didn’t tell any of the family until just before it was released publicly as a thing. I didn’t want anyone to think, particularly with Harry, who people know I had to stay in the summer, that he was in any way involved in this,” Spencer said.
“It was important to me that they weren’t,” he added.
Spencer said he has spoken with William and Harry since the book was released.
Spencer released the book nearly 30 years after Diana’s death. While recalling the eulogy he delivered during Diana’s funeral in 1997, Spencer said he wants the book to “celebrate Diana.”
“I wanted people to realize she was someone really fabulous who had given life a hell of a go, and sadly, the life was terribly short,” he said.
