英国西南部警方周日表示，在一处美军使用的空军基地附近村庄内，多名男子因涉嫌与爆炸物相关的罪行被捕。
格洛斯特郡警方表示，在“多名男子因涉嫌违反爆炸物法的罪行被捕”后，该局已宣布进入重大事件状态，并疏散了韦尔福德地区的“多栋住宅”。这里的爆炸物法指英国国内有关爆炸物的法律。
当局还表示，一支拆弹小组已在现场对多辆车辆进行检查。

警方称，部分当地居民已被疏散，现场已设立警戒线，据称事件已“得到控制”。
韦尔福德镇紧邻费尔福德皇家空军基地，美军在对伊朗的战争期间曾利用该基地实施严格限制的打击行动。2月28日美伊战争爆发后，英国政府允许美军使用费尔福德基地打击伊朗导弹阵地。
不过警方并未向美联社证实此次逮捕行动是否与该基地有关。
一名被疏散居民告诉CBS新闻的国际合作伙伴BBC，本周早些时候有三辆“异常货车”出现在费尔福德空军基地附近区域。
周日凌晨从家中被疏散的朱利安·塔斯伯里在接受BBC采访时表示，“三辆货车开进了村子中央，有居民立刻向警方报了警”。
BBC新闻播出的直升机航拍画面显示，基地附近三辆停放的白色货车旁有一辆轮式机器人正在作业。不过警方尚未确认正在检查的是哪些车辆，也未证实这些车辆是否与此次事件有关。
美国空军的一名发言人表示，驻扎在费尔福德皇家空军基地的人员“保持高度警惕”，但出于安全原因不会讨论具体的安保措施。
“我们会持续评估各种因素，以此决定采取或调整哪些措施，以保护我们的基地、人员及其家属，”该发言人说道。

美国欧洲司令部表示不会讨论具体的安保措施，但补充称将“采取适当行动，确保我们在欧洲战区的美军人员、文职人员、承包商及其家属的安全”。
据路透社援引一名目击者的说法，近期该空军基地的安保措施已大幅加强，现场增设了更多路障，武装警察也加强了通行管控。
英国政府的一名发言人对应急服务部门的快速行动表示感谢，并补充称“调查仍在进行中，不宜进一步置评”。

Several men arrested, bomb disposal team deployed near air base used by U.S. forces in England

Several men have been arrested on suspicion of crimes related to explosives at a village near an air base used by U.S. forces, police in southwestern England said on Sunday.
Police in Gloucestershire said it had declared a major incident and evacuated “a number of properties” in the Whelford area following the arrest of “several men on suspicion of offences under the explosives act,” referring to the country’s laws around explosives.
The authorities also said a bomb disposal team were on site examining a number of vehicles.

Some local residents were evacuated, police said, and a cordon was established but the incident is said to be “contained.”
The town of Whelford is close to RAF Fairford, a base that American forces have used for strictly limited strikes during the war with Iran. After the start of the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran on Feb. 28, the U.K. government allowed the American military to use the Fairford base to strike Iranian missile sites.
However, police did not confirm to the Associated Press whether the arrests were linked to the base.
One evacuated resident told the BBC, CBS News’ international partner, that three “unusual vans” appeared in the area near Fairford air base overnight.
Speaking to the BBC, Julian Tubsbery, who was evacuated from his home in the early hours of Sunday said that “there were these three vans that arrived in the middle of the village and a resident reported them to the police straight away.”
Helicopter footage aired on BBC News showed a wheeled robot operating near three parked white vans near the base. However, the police has not yet confirmed which vehicles were being examined, or if they were connected with the incident.
A spokesperson for the U.S. Air Force said its personnel based at RAF Fairford “remain vigilant” but would not discuss specific force protection measures for security reasons.
“We constantly assess a variety of factors that determine what measures we institute or modify to protect our installations, our people and their families,” the spokesperson said.

The U.S. military’s European Command said it would not discuss specific force protection measures, but added it would “take appropriate actions to ensure the safety and security of our U.S. service members, civilians, contractors, and their families across the European theater.”
Security measures have been significantly increased in recent days at the air baise, according to an eyewitness quoted by the Reuters news agency who said there had been more roadblocks and armed police preventing access.
A spokesperson for the U.K. government thanked emergency services for acting quickly and added that it would be “inappropriate to comment further whilst investigations are ongoing.”
