一位仅被称为达雷尔的目击者告诉第九频道电视台，遇难者当时正和一位如今深受精神创伤的朋友一起游泳。
“我当时都惊呆了。我是说，我为他的朋友感到难过。他道歉说‘我没能救下我的朋友’，”达雷尔对第九频道说。
“我说‘你当时什么也做不了’，”达雷尔补充道。
每天都会来这片海滩游泳的目击者英格丽德·米切尔对第九频道表示：“你怎么能眼睁睁看着一个人被撕成碎片就在你眼前？这真的太令人难受了。”
目击者们称看到海面上有血迹。
“我的朋友说‘雅克，我觉得发生了鲨鱼袭击’，我望向海面，能看到一滩血，”海滩散步者杰奎·拉佩奇告诉澳大利亚广播公司。
当地居民瑞安·罗告诉《西澳大利亚人报》，他很快就抵达了海滩，一位旁观者告诉他“有人被鲨鱼咬了”。
“我简直不敢相信人体能流出那么多血，”罗说。
当局已关闭该海滩，禁止游客游泳。目击者称该游泳者是一名60多岁的男子，但警方未进一步公布其身份。

2026年澳大利亚致命鲨鱼袭击事件
今年澳大利亚至少已发生5起致命鲨鱼袭击事件。
1月，一名12岁男孩在悉尼港游泳时被鲨鱼咬伤后身亡。这起导致男孩死亡的袭击是两天内发生的四起袭击之一，促使官方关闭了该市数十处海滩。
5月至6月间，另有三名潜水员在不同事件中遭鲨鱼袭击身亡——两起发生在西澳大利亚州，第三起发生在昆士兰州。
同样在6月，一名女子在悉尼最受欢迎的海滩之一遭鲨鱼袭击。这位女教师上个月回忆称，她曾朝这头掠食者挥出一记“左勾拳”，随后它将她拖入了水下。

A man was killed by a shark as he swam off a Western Australian city beach Friday while beachgoers watched in horror.
Boats and helicopters searched the ocean off Sorrento Beach in Perth’s northern suburbs after the late-morning attack, a police statement said. Police would not say whether potential remains had been found.
But police were confident the “swimmer died as a result of the attack,” the statement said.
A witness to the attack, identified only as Darrel, told Nine Network television that the victim had been swimming with a now traumatized friend.
“I was just shocked. I mean, I feel for his mate. He’s apologized and said ‘I didn’t save my mate,’” Darrel told Nine.
“I said ‘You couldn’t have done anything,’” Darrel added.
Witness Ingrid Mitchell, who swims at the beach daily, said to Nine: “How do you just watch someone be mauled to pieces in front of you, basically? It’s pretty hard.”
Witnesses reported seeing blood in the water.
“My friend said, ‘Jac, I think there’s been a shark attack,’ and I looked out to the ocean and I could see a pool of blood,” beach walker Jacqui Rapaic told Australian Broadcasting Corp.
Local Ryan Rowe told The West Australian newspaper that he reached the beach soon afterward and was told by an onlooker “someone had been bitten by a shark.”
“I couldn’t believe there was that much blood (that had) come out of a human body,” Rowe said.
Authorities closed the beach to swimmers. Witnesses described the swimmer as a man in his 60s but police did not identify him further.
In a separate shark attack, a surfer sustained a serious leg injury Monday near Geraldton, about 400 kilometers (250 miles) north of Perth.
Deadly shark attacks in 2026
There have been at least five fatal shark attacks in Australia this year.
A 12-year-old boy died after he was bitten by a shark while swimming in Sydney Harbour in January. The attack that killed the boy was one of four recorded in the span of two days, which prompted officials to close dozens of the city’s beaches.
Three divers were also fatally mauled in separate incidents between May and June — two in Western Australia and the third in Queensland.
Also in June, a woman was mauled by a shark at one of Australia’s most popular beaches in Sydney. The woman — a schoolteacher — last month recalled swinging a “left hook” at the predator before it dragged her underwater.
Australia has averaged between two and three fatal shark attacks a year since 2000, according to the Australian Shark Incident Database, a partnership including Taronga Conservation Society Australia, Flinders University and the New South Wales state government.
The International Shark Attack File, a database of global shark attacks maintained by the University of Florida, has recorded more than 1,280 shark incidents around Australia since 1791, including more than 250 fatal incidents. Such incidents have become more common as the population has grown and activities such as surfing and scuba diving have gained popularity.
