“亚伯拉罕·林肯”号航母的水兵们在抵达泰国后，终于可以放下军事任务，前往海滩、酒吧，享受几天急需的休整。在海上连续部署创纪录的9个月后，水兵们的父母都为他们终于踏上坚实的土地而感到欣慰，这场部署实在太过漫长艰辛。

麦加里表示，她的儿子已经是第二次参与部署了，他认为外界的担忧“有些言过其实”。
“我不知道他是不是只是想让妈妈安心。他说他只知道有一名水兵跳海了，除此之外再没别的情况，”麦加里说道。“我不会替我儿子说话，也不想这么做。我也清楚，不同部门的船员经历会截然不同，你懂的，比如那些身处起降甲板的人，那里噪音巨大、混乱不堪。”
据海军方面消息，今年8月确实发生过一起水兵坠海事件，目前正在调查中。该水兵已被安全救起，并离舰接受后续治疗。水兵坠海的具体过程和原因尚未明确，仍在调查范围内。
一名水兵的父亲此前曾向哥伦比亚广播公司新闻透露家属们对航母上船员的担忧。
“他们本不该被部署这么久，”儿子杰克逊首次参与部署的杰斐逊·凯利说道。“这些都是老旧舰艇，根本算不上最先进的。它们需要大量维护，大量的检修工作，而且是全天候不间断的。”

麦加里表示，在过去六个月船员参与对伊朗打击行动期间，她和儿子几乎没有联系。该舰队同时也参与了美国封锁，阻止船只进出伊朗港口。
“他们只是按常规部署出发的，完全没想到所在区域会爆发战争，”她说。“所以现在知道他今天心情轻松了，今天玩得开心了。天呐，我简直没法形容，我甚至没法跟你说这对我来说是什么滋味。”
美国海军“乔治·华盛顿”号航母战斗群现已接替“林肯”号在中东的任务。“亚伯拉罕·林肯”号将在泰国休整数日后，返回位于圣迭戈的母港。
Mother of USS Abraham Lincoln sailor “so relieved” son has arrived in Thailand after record deployment

Sailors from the USS Abraham Lincoln are swapping military operations for beaches, bars and a few days of much-needed rest after landing in Thailand. And after a record nine months at sea, parents of the sailors are just happy they are on solid ground after the grueling deployment.
“I’m certain that his feet have touched the ground, and I’m really so relieved, so relieved,” Christi McGarey, whose son Marshall Ludwig is a sailor on the ship, told CBS News. “Those ports are really important, and there’s a reason why things like this don’t happen, because since that particular vessel has been in commission there’s never been this many consecutive days at sea.”
Some 5,000 sailors, Marines and crew departed the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier after spending the last six months involved in the war with Iran.
During that time, there have been ongoing reports of deteriorating conditions on board due to a lack of supplies from U.S. bases in the region that were repeatedly targeted by Iranian strikes — as well as a decline in the mental health of the crew.
CBS News spoke to several sailors as they arrived in Laem Chabang, but none wanted to comment on the conditions on board the ship. They all said they were excited to be on solid ground in Thailand, though.

McGarey said her son, who is on his second deployment, believed the concerns were “overblown.”
“I don’t know if he was trying to make mom feel better. He said he knew about one person that had jumped overboard, but that that was all that he was aware of,” McGarey said. “I won’t speak for my son, and I don’t want to do that. I also know that what his experiences can be very different than somebody that’s in a different department, or you know where that landing strip is and the noise and the chaos.”
There was an incident of a sailor going overboard in August that is being investigated, according to the Navy. The sailor was rescued safely and left the ship for follow-on care. The circumstances of how and why the sailor fell overboard are unclear and part of the investigation.
The father of one sailor previously told CBS News about the families’ concerns about those on board the carrier.
“They should not be deployed this long,” said Jefferson Kelley, whose son Jackson was on the Lincoln on his first-ever deployment. “These are old ships. It’s not like they’re even state-of-the-art. And they take a lot of maintenance, a lot of work. It’s around the clock.”

McGarey said she’d had very little communication with her son over the last six months as the crew was involved in strikes on Iran. The crew was also part of the U.S. blockade preventing ships into or out of Iranian ports.
“They just set off on regular deployment, no idea that a war would break out in the area they were in,” she said. “So just knowing that today his heart is lighter, today he had fun. Gosh, I just, I can’t even tell you. I can’t even explain to you how that feels for me.”
The USS George Washington carrier group has now replaced the Lincoln in the Middle East. The USS Lincoln will return to its home port in San Diego after spending a few days in Thailand.
