White House to appeal judge’s order to remove Trump’s name from Kennedy Center

The Trump administration will appeal a judge’s order requiring that President Trump’s name be removed from the Kennedy Center. The notice of appeal was filed Thursday in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

Earlier Thursday, Mr. Trump’s handpicked Kennedy Center board voted to seek a stay of U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper’s May 29 ruling that said Mr. Trump’s name was illegally added to the Kennedy Center, a person familiar with the move who requested anonymity to discuss a private meeting told The Associated Press. The formal stay will be filed on Friday, the person said.

Cooper ruled last month that only Congress could institute a change to the Kennedy Center’s name and ordered references to Mr. Trump be removed by Friday. He also blocked the administration from closing the cultural and arts venue for major renovations that had been planned to start in July and last for two years.

The board move marks a shift from a June 4 memo to staff from the Kennedy Center’s Office of General Counsel saying email signatures, letterhead and other documents must reflect the name as “The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts” or “Kennedy Center.”

The Kennedy Center’s website has dropped the president’s name. And an email earlier this week sent to members offering ticket packages for the June 28 Mark Twain Award for American Humor ceremony came from the Kennedy Center without including Mr. Trump’s name.

Rep. Rick Larsen, a Washington Democrat who is an ex officio member of the Kennedy Center’s board, said in a statement that he participated in the meeting and opposed seeking a stay.

“I look forward to putting these distractions behind us and focusing on supporting the arts and the future of the Center,” he said.

After ignoring the Kennedy Center for much of his first term, Mr. Trump has wielded tremendous influence over the venue during his return to office. Just a month into his second term, he ousted the center’s previous leadership and replaced it with a hand-picked board of trustees that named him chairman. He brought in Richard Grenell to serve as president, a position he held until March when Matt Floca assumed the role.

The center’s lineup has included more Trump-friendly programming, serving as the venue for events such as the premiere of first lady Melania Trump’s documentary, “Melania.”

The board also announced it had renamed the facility the Trump Kennedy Center, a change scholars and lawmakers say must be initiated by Congress, and physically added the president’s name to the building’s facade.

The fallout from the arts community was swift and intense. Actor Issa Rae, musician Bela Fleck and author Louise Penny were among the numerous artists who withdrew from appearances, while consultants such as musician Ben Folds and singer Renée Fleming resigned. Earlier this month, the executive director of the National Symphony Orchestra, Jean Davidson, left to head the Los Angeles-based Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts.

In addition to voting on the stay on Thursday, the board backed a resolution recognizing Mr. Trump’s “commitment to uphold this cherished American institution.”

US appeals court extends block on ruling against Trump’s 10% global tariff

NEW YORK, June 11 (Reuters) – A U.S. appeals court on Thursday extended its block on ​a lower court ruling against the Trump ‌administration’s 10% global tariff under Section 122 of the Trade Act, keeping the tariffs in place for three ​importers that had won a reprieve from ​the duties last week.

• The decision from the ⁠Federal Circuit appeals court allows the U.S. ​to continue collecting tariffs from three importers while ​the government’s appeal plays out.
• The U.S. trade court ruled against the new tariffs on May 7, but did not widely ​block their collection.
• The three importers impacted by ​the ruling are two small businesses and the state of ‌Washington, ⁠which paid tariffs on purchases by the University of Washington.
• The Trump administration appealed, and the appeals court on May 12 temporarily allowed tariffs to resume for the three ​importers who ​won in ⁠lower court.
• The 10% global tariff was imposed in February, after the U.S. Supreme ​Court struck down most of the tariffs ​that ⁠Trump imposed in 2025.
• The 10% global tariff is scheduled to expire in July, unless extended by ⁠Congress.
• The ​latest global tariffs were imposed ​under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974.

Ariana Grande to White House: Don’t use my music for ‘heinous nonsense’

WASHINGTON, June 11 (Reuters) – American pop star Ariana Grande told President Donald Trump’s administration on ​Thursday to stop using her music to promote its ‌policies.

The comment came after the White House shared a video on TikTok earlier this week highlighting its immigration policy. The video, which depicts federal ​agents arresting and handcuffing people, features the Grammy Award-winning ​singer’s 2024 song “Bye.”

“Please do not ever use my music ⁠in relation to this barbaric, inhumane, heinous nonsense,” Grande ​wrote in a comment posted on the White House video on ​TikTok on Thursday.

A source close to the singer said her team is looking into how to remove the music from the video as soon as possible.

Responding ​to Grande, White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson said: “We’ll say this ​one last time: what’s actually barbaric, inhumane, and heinous are the criminal illegal ‌aliens ⁠who have injured and murdered innocent American citizens.”

Grande, a singer and Academy Award-nominated actress, was critical of the Trump administration last year after sharing a post on Instagram asking people who ​voted for Trump ​if their ⁠lives had gotten better since he returned to office.

Trump, now in his second non-consecutive term, has ​an active social media presence. Members of his ​communications team ⁠often post short videos that feature popular songs to illustrate the president’s efforts to deliver on his campaign promises.

Some of the ⁠videos ​have featured hit songs while depicting images ​showing Trump’s immigration crackdown, U.S. military operations against Iran and the arrest of former Venezuelan President ​Nicolas Maduro.

（马德里综合电）皇家马德里（Real Madrid）星期四（6月11日）正式任命莫里尼奥（Mourinho）为球队新任主帅。这名葡萄牙功勋老帅与西甲豪门签下为期三年的合同，在离开13年后上演了重返西班牙首都的震撼戏码。

现年63岁的莫里尼奥将接掌过渡主帅阿韦洛亚（Arbeloa）的兵符。在此之前，皇马已经连续第二个赛季未能获得任何一项重大赛事的冠军，在西甲联赛的竞争中也落后于宿敌巴塞罗那（Barcelona）。

这家曾15次夺得欧洲冠军的俱乐部在声明中说：“（皇马已）同意任命何塞·莫里尼奥为一线队主教练，任期为接下来的三个赛季，直至2029年6月30日。
