领英的研究人员发现,在美国,具备人工智能技能岗位的新雇员中,女性仅占26%,而这类岗位的薪资比非人工智能岗位更为丰厚。相比之下,非人工智能岗位的女性雇员占比为50%。
随着企业在这项新技术上投入数十亿美元,此类岗位的薪资溢价显著,领英数据显示,该平台上的人工智能职位发布量自2023年以来已翻番。这类岗位的典型招聘薪资约为17.7万美元,而非人工智能岗位的平均薪资约为8万美元。
领英女发言人萨拉·斯坦伯格对哥伦比亚广播公司新闻表示:“人工智能正在创造全球经济中增长最快、薪资最高、影响最深远的岗位,但在招聘对象、享受薪资溢价的人群以及领导这项技术开发和部署的人员中,女性的占比都低得惊人。”
她表示,科技行业的性别差距在人工智能领域更为明显,该领域的岗位热潮“加剧了女性面临的职场障碍”。
女性的职业晋升通道断裂

“我们所处的世界里,女性更有可能遭遇人工智能带来的工作变动或岗位颠覆,同时她们也无法享受到人工智能岗位带来的薪资溢价,也无法进入人工智能创造的新岗位。”斯坦伯格说,“这正是我在思考女性在经济中的地位时彻夜难眠的原因。”
基于技能的招聘或能有所帮助
斯坦伯格表示,转向基于技能而非学历的招聘模式,或许能帮助更多女性进入人工智能岗位人才库。她说,如果雇主不再根据求职者的学历或过往工作经历进行招聘,而是关注其具备的相关技能,就能吸纳更多女性加入。
部分原因在于,对有志于掌握人工智能技能的劳动者而言,通过在线课程或培训,或是使用公开可用的人工智能工具积累经验,都是相对容易实现的途径。
“有些人即便没有相关学历,也未曾从事过人工智能相关工作,同样可以掌握人工智能技能。”她说。

Women are being left behind in high-paying AI jobs boom

The artificial intelligence jobs boom is exacerbating the gender gap women already face in the technology industry, according to new research from the jobs and networking site LinkedIn, which shows that women are underrepresented among new hires for AI jobs.
In the U.S., women candidates accounted for just 26% of hires into jobs that require AI skills, which offer more lucrative salaries than non-AI roles, LinkedIn researchers found. That’s compared to 50% of women who were hired into non-AI positions.
Such jobs command a pay premium as corporations invest billions in the new tech, leading to a doubling in AI job postings on the site since 2023. The typical listing advertises a salary of about $177,000, compared to roughly $80,000 for a non-AI role, according to LinkedIn.
“AI is creating some of the fastest-growing, highest-paying, most consequential jobs in the global economy, but women are strikingly underrepresented in terms of who is getting hired, who benefits from the pay premium, and who is leading the development and deployment of this tech,” LinkedIn spokeswoman Sarah Steinberg told CBS News.
She said the tech industry’s gender gap is more pronounced in AI, with the field’s jobs boom “compounding barriers that women face.”
Broken ladder for women
The share of women in AI roles globally narrows as they move up the corporate ladder.
Across 27 countries, women hold just 13% of leadership roles at AI firms, whereas they account for 20% of job holders in the same roles in the broader tech industry. “It’s not great representation overall, but it’s worse when you look at AI specifically,” Steinberg added.
The trend is concerning for several reasons. First, research already shows that women are more likely to hold jobs that will be disrupted by AI, such as in customer service or administrative roles. For example, 86% of the 6.1 million workers, mostly in clerical and administrative roles that are vulnerable to AI takeover and have limited ability to adapt their skills, are women, according to The Brookings Institution, a nonprofit public policy organization.
“We have a world in which women are more likely to have their jobs changed or disrupted by AI, and they are also not benefiting from AI pay premiums, or moving into jobs that are created by AI,” Steinberg said. “That’s what keeps me up at night when it comes to women’s place in the economy.”
Skills-based hiring could help
A shift toward skills-based rather than credential-based hiring could help funnel more women into the AI job pipeline, according to Steinberg. If employers recruit candidates not based on the degrees they’ve earned or previous jobs they’ve held, but instead focus on the applicable skills they possess, more women could be brought into the fold, she said.
That’s in part because it’s relatively easy for workers interested in acquiring AI skills to take online courses or training, or to gain experience by using publicly available AI tools.
“Someone can have AI skills without having a related diploma or having held a previous job in AI,” she said.
